Evaluating Ai As A Design Tool In Architectural Workflows: Exploring Its Effectiveness In Addressing Design Problems And Integrating Into Studio Processes, Seth S. Cutlip
Architecture Undergraduate Honors Theses
This paper examines the integration of AI imaging tools into traditional analog workflows within architecture studios. This looks specifically at the early conceptual design phase and examines, through a research through design approach, how AI imaging tools like Comfyui and Krita can support ideation, material exploration, and spatial composition. This approach will be remaking design exercises from a prior architectural studio, the study critically evaluates the effectiveness of AI tools in addressing design problems, enhancing workflow efficiency, and supporting creative agency. The findings show both the generative potential and the limitations of these AI imaging tools. This emphasizes the need …
Deconstructing The Anthony Timberlands Center: Making Preparations For A Building’S End-Of-Life., Sarah Myane
Deconstructing The Anthony Timberlands Center: Making Preparations For A Building’S End-Of-Life., Sarah Myane
Architecture Undergraduate Honors Theses
Based on a speculative future where mass timber has become a normalized structural material, integrated into the building envelope as commonplace, and material reuse and reclamation are standard practice. The Anthony Timberlands Center is slated for deconstruction due to age and necessity for more updated programing. Today in 2025 as the building has not even reached completion, how can its assembly and use influence its purpose after the initial lifespan?
This study is based on principles of design for deconstruction from two different theories: the 6 S’s of a building devised by Stewart Brand, and Philip Crowther's 10 frameworks for …
Considerations For Virtual Reality In Architectural Design Development, Alexander White
Considerations For Virtual Reality In Architectural Design Development, Alexander White
Architecture Undergraduate Honors Theses
This is an undergraduate thesis research about the exploration of Virtual Reality (VR) in the architectural design career field at the design development stage for architectural projects. VR is a tool that is available for designers to use to make design decisions for their projects and is used to explore the design in space at a one-to-one scale. VR has proven itself to be a valuable resource for designers and clients; however, it has been personally observed that VR is not as utilized as much as it could be in the architectural design development workflow. The purpose of this research …
Designing For Mass Customization Housing Through Generative Design, Tania Salgueiro
Designing For Mass Customization Housing Through Generative Design, Tania Salgueiro
Architecture Undergraduate Honors Theses
This research proposal aims to investigate computational design strategies for sustainable, affordable, and more equitable housing. The study will focus on the use of generative design tools, such as parametric modeling, rule-based modeling, and optimization, to aid architects and designers in creating custom housing complexes for single families in small and medium urban lots. The goal is to develop a computational method that considers sustainability, affordability, and long-term usage parameters to create housing designs that meet the desired spatial qualities. The research question asks how generative design tools can support designers in approaching affordable housing given the increasing demand for …
Subterraneans: A Regional Earth Dwelling For Comfort And Beauty, Isaak Benchoff
Subterraneans: A Regional Earth Dwelling For Comfort And Beauty, Isaak Benchoff
Architecture Undergraduate Honors Theses
Subterraneans is a study of an affordable, self-sufficient, sustainable, and dignified housing prototype for the region of Northwest Arkansas. It is a design process investigation based on the ideas of turning a local, sustainable material into affordable homes that can be built within a community of people sharing land and resources. The homes would utilize as many natural materials as possible to minimize the impact on the Earth and the cost to the owners.
Research looked at many different vernacular building precedents as well as the work done by contemporary design firms in the area of economical, low-impact, and passively …
Plastic Bottles In Architecture: A How To Guide On Life-Cycle Through Reuse, Crystallyne Landram
Plastic Bottles In Architecture: A How To Guide On Life-Cycle Through Reuse, Crystallyne Landram
Architecture Undergraduate Honors Theses
This booklet is a collection of 6 case studies that utilize reused plastic bottles significantly within their design. Prior to working with the case studies, much time was dedicated to research that justified the need for such a project. In-depth research on the environmental crisis, waste management trends, stewardship, sustainability, and ethics was conducted and recorded in the introduction to contextualize the need for an accessible how-to guide such as this one. Time was also given to establishing background information on bottles, reprocessing, and architecture to elaborate further on each piece of the content matter. It is curated as a …

The Future Of Urban Technology: Exploring Smart Cities And Transportation Through Game Theory And Scenario Planning, Matthew Wilson
Architecture Undergraduate Honors Theses
Technological innovation is occurring at a rapid pace in the world of personal devices. This trend of change has not been able to occur as fast in the city infrastructure. Consumers are curious about the next generation of technology and the integration of artificially intelligent technology in transportation and the urban fabric. In this project, I study the motivations and values of a set of characters involved in the integration and innovation of Smart City Technology. These characters create potential future scenarios of the city from their actions and reactions to specific decisions.
This body of work can provide a …
Hurricanes And Housing: Highlighting The Ongoing Impact Of Hurricane Michael And The Post-Disaster Housing Problem, Mary Beth Barr
Hurricanes And Housing: Highlighting The Ongoing Impact Of Hurricane Michael And The Post-Disaster Housing Problem, Mary Beth Barr
Architecture Undergraduate Honors Theses
Hurricanes impact individuals and communities on many levels - emotional, physical, mental, financial - to name a few. Every time a hurricane occurs, lives are drastically altered forever. One of the ways that hurricanes impact individuals and communities most powerfully is through the effect that they have on housing. Unleashing uncontrollable damage to infrastructure and the built environment, hurricanes exacerbate housing problems that exist and create new ones where they did not exist before. Hurricane Michael, which catastrophically impacted the Florida Panhandle in 2018, is a case study in which the impact that hurricanes have on housing is prevalent.

A Functional Escape, Zachary Spero
A Functional Escape, Zachary Spero
Architecture Undergraduate Honors Theses
Over the past two decades, the tree house has outgrown its more recent traditional role as a child’s place to play and has served many new functions. I intend to conduct research that questions how the tree house has evolved over the last twenty years based upon changes in program, technology, and relation to the tree itself. As a result of this research, I will deliver a clear understanding of tree house design best practices in the form of a manual.
Audio To Architecture: House Music As A Form Generator, Polina Timchenko
Audio To Architecture: House Music As A Form Generator, Polina Timchenko
Architecture Undergraduate Honors Theses
Contemporary music undergoes similar process of creation to that of the design process through computation and variation. House music as a representation of contemporary culture has a layered structure that allows specific characteristics to identify it as house music. Song components can vary and mix in different orders that form new dynamic compositions. I am going to explore the idea that every house music component can be translated into geometry with the use of parametric design techniques.

Photography As A Tool For Discovery And Analysis In The Architectural Design Process, Aaron Kimberlin
Architecture Undergraduate Honors Theses
This study is to explore the potential of photography and post processing strategies to be much more involved in the architectural design process as an additional tool for recording, thinking, analyzing, and diagramming. This study is not to undermine hand sketching on site. It is a study to expand the limits of our visual thinking with a tool that helps us see. Why use photography? Vision is arguably the most important sense to humans. Although subjective, photography records accurate information of a specific view in a specific place at a specific time. It captures both spatial and formal details and …
