In Mexico, tourism arises as an economic activity around the 1920s, through government agencies and policies for tourism control. Previously, travelers in the country were amazed with what they named as primitive and picturesque, found especially in the rural villages. Patzcuaro was one of the places that best exemplified the picturesque, through an imaginary forged in the mind of the visitor, published in the books where authors reflected their views and experiences.
