วิทยานิพนธ์นี้ศึกษาพัฒนาการแนวคิดและรูปแบบสถาปัตยกรรมและองค์ประกอบในเขตพุทธาวาส ได้แก่ เจดีย์ อุโบสถ วิหาร และมณฑป ที่ออกแบบโดยสถาปนิกไทยยุคบุกเบิกซึ่งมีผลงานในช่วงพ.ศ. 2509-2553 ที่คัดเลือกมาจำนวน 10 คน เพื่อให้เข้าใจถึงการเปลี่ยนแปลงที่เกิดขึ้นของสถาปัตยกรรมวัดจากปัจจัยต่าง ๆ ได้แก่ ปัจจัยทางการเมือง เศรษฐกิจ สังคม ศาสนา และสถาปัตยกรรม โดยมีสมมติฐานว่าจุดเปลี่ยนที่มีบทบาทสำคัญคือการก่อตั้งหลักสูตรการเรียนการสอนสถาปัตยกรรมแบบสากลขึ้น การศึกษาวิจัยใช้การเปรียบเทียบระหว่างสถาปัตยกรรมวัดที่ออกแบบโดยสถาปนิกไทยยุคบุกเบิกกับสถาปัตยกรรมวัดในอดีตซึ่งทั้งหมดอยู่ในสมัยรัตนโกสินทร์ โดยอิงทฤษฎีทางสถาปัตยกรรมไทยและสถาปัตยกรรมแบบสากล กรณีศึกษาได้รวบรวมข้อมูลจากเอกสาร การสำรวจ และการสัมภาษณ์แนวคิดในการออกแบบสถาปัตยกรรมวัดจำนวน 53 หลัง จากวัด 42 แห่งทุกภูมิภาค และจำแนกกลุ่มลักษณะทางกายภาพตามประเด็นทางสถาปัตยกรรม ดังนี้ 1. ผังบริเวณวัดและผังบริเวณในเขตพุทธาวาส 2. รูปแบบทางสถาปัตยกรรม และการประดับตกแต่งและสัญลักษณ์ 3. การใช้สอย และที่ว่างภายใน และ 4. โครงสร้าง และวัสดุก่อสร้าง และนำมาวิเคราะห์เพื่อศึกษาปัจจัยที่อยู่เบื้องหลังการเปลี่ยนแปลง ผลการศึกษาสรุปว่าสถาปัตยกรรมวัดที่ทาการวิจัยมีความหลากหลายของรูปแบบและการใช้สอยและมีลักษณะเฉพาะอยู่เป็นจำนวนมาก การเปลี่ยนแปลงของสถาปัตยกรรมวัดไม่ได้เกิดขึ้นและจบลงตามลำดับเวลา แต่เกิดขึ้นพร้อมกันและขนานกันไปตั้งแต่เริ่มต้นจนถึงทุกวันนี้ ดังนั้นจึงไม่สามารถจำแนกเป็นกลุ่มรูปแบบตามลำดับช่วงเวลาอย่างพัฒนาการประวัติศาสตร์สถาปัตยกรรมทั่วไปได้ นอกจากนี้ ยังพบว่าสถาปนิกยุคบุกเบิกได้พัฒนาแนวคิดในการออกแบบจากการใช้ศาสตร์สถาปัตยกรรมแบบสากลมาทำความเข้าใจองค์ความรู้เดิม ทำให้มีมุมมองว่าวัดเป็นสถาปัตยกรรมที่สร้างสรรค์ได้อย่างอิสระเหมือนกับสถาปัตยกรรมประเภทอื่น ๆ และสร้างสรรค์งานออกแบบที่มีรูปแบบตั้งแต่ประเพณีนิยมไปจนถึงรูปแบบใหม่ซึ่งเปลี่ยนแปลงพร้อมกับการใช้สอยและที่ว่างภายใน รวมถึงการทดลองใช้โครงสร้างและวัสดุก่อสร้างใหม่ ซึ่งผลงานออกแบบสถาปัตยกรรมวัดมีความเป็นปัจเจกตามแนวคิดและประสบการณ์ของสถาปนิก และยังคงพัฒนาตามแนวทางของแต่ละคนต่อไป

หอผู้ป่วยในเป็นแผนกหนึ่งในโรงพยาบาล ซึ่งโดยทั่วไปจะประกอบไปด้วยส่วนบริการผู้ป่วยและญาติ ส่วนทำงานเจ้าหน้าที่ ส่วนสนับสนุนเจ้าหน้าที่ และหอผู้ป่วยในเป็นส่วนที่ให้บริการผู้ป่วยตลอด 24 ชั่วโมงต่อวัน ในปัจจุบันการทำงานภายในหอผู้ป่วยมีการเปลี่ยนแปลงไปตามเทคโนโลยี แต่มาตรฐานในการออกแบบพื้นที่ส่วนพยาบาลปัจจุบันอิงข้อมูลการใช้พื้นที่ในอดีต และมีความแตกต่างในการใช้งานแต่ละแผนก รวมถึงแต่ละประเภทโรงพยาบาลมีลักษณะการจัดพื้นที่ส่วนพยาบาลแตกต่างกัน ส่งผลให้เกณฑ์และมาตรฐานเดิมไม่สอดคล้องกับความต้องการใช้งานพื้นที่ในปัจจุบัน การวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาแนวทางการออกแบบของพื้นที่ส่วนพยาบาลหอผู้ป่วยใน ศึกษาลักษณะการใช้งานพื้นที่ส่วนพยาบาล และเพื่อวิเคราะห์ถึงปัจจัยที่มีผลต่อพื้นที่ส่วนพยาบาลหอผู้ป่วยใน จากการศึกษาพบว่ามาตรฐาน และพบข้อจำกัดที่ใช้ในการออกแบบแต่ละประเภทโรงพยาบาลแตกต่างกัน ซึ่งส่งผลให้การจัดผังรูปแบบและการใช้สอยพื้นที่ของแต่ละประเภทโรงพยาบาลมีลักษณะที่แตกต่างกัน รวมถึงการใช้งานพื้นที่ส่วนหัตถการของพื้นที่ส่วนพยาบาลหอผู้ป่วยในแต่ละแผนกก็มีความต้องการที่แตกต่างกัน และพบว่าในการออกแบบพื้นที่ส่วนพยาบาลหอผู้ป่วยในมีปัจจัยที่ส่งผล คือประเภทโรงพยาบาล ประเภทหอผู้ป่วย ตำแหน่งที่ตั้งพื้นที่ส่วนพยาบาล จำนวนผู้ป่วย และจำนวนบุคลากร ดังนั้นพื้นที่ส่วนพยาบาลในแต่ละประเภทโรงพยาบาลมีสัดส่วนที่แตกต่างกัน โดยโรงพยาบาลเอกชนมีสัดส่วนพื้นที่ส่วนพยาบาลน้อยกว่าโรงพยาบาลโรงเรียนแพทย์ และโรงพยาบาลรัฐ เนื่องจากการให้บริการเน้นพื้นที่ให้บริการผู้ป่วยเป็นหลักและมีความต้องการใช้สอยพื้นที่ใช้สอยน้อยที่สุดทั้งด้านขนาดและลักษณะพื้นที่ ส่วนโรงพยาบาลโรงเรียนแพทย์มีสัดส่วนพื้นที่ส่วนพยาบาลมากกว่าโรงพยาบาลรัฐเนื่องจากโรงเรียนแพทย์มีผู้ใช้งานที่หลากหลายและมีจำนวนบุคลากรมากกว่าโรงพยาบาลรัฐ รวมถึงมีความต้องการใช้สอยพื้นที่ใช้สอยมากที่สุดทั้งด้านขนาดและลักษณะพื้นที่ ทั้งนี้ ระบบการทำงาน และการจัดการภายโรงพยาบาลก็ส่งผลต่อสัดส่วนพื้นที่ส่วนพยาบาลเช่นกัน

วิทยานิพนธ์นี้เป็นการทำความเข้าใจ หาเกณฑ์และหลักคิดในการออกแบบพุทธประทีปมหาสถูปเจดีย์ของมูลนิธิพระบรมธาตุ ในพระสังฆราชูปถัมภ์ ด้วยวิธีการศึกษาในหลักพุทธธรรม คือ อริยมรรคมีองค์ 8 ซึ่งเป็นหนทางแห่งการพ้นทุกข์ ที่ปรากฏอยู่ในหลักอริยสัจ 4 และได้สรุปลงมาเป็นหลักไตรสิกขา คือ ศีล สมาธิ ปัญญา อันเป็นหลักในการเข้าถึงพุทธธรรม โดยศึกษาหลักหลักธรรมทางพุทธศาสนา โดยการค้นคว้าจากพระคัมภีร์ในขั้นปฐมภูมิ ได้แก่ พระไตรปิฎก ในขั้นทุติยภูมิ ได้แก่ ตำราวิชาการทั้งภายในประเทศและระดับนานาชาติ ได้ไปสัมภาษณ์ผู้เชี่ยวชาญทั้งชาวไทยและชาวต่างประเทศ และได้เดินทางไปศึกษาดูงานและวิเคราะห์จากสถานที่จริงของพระสถูปเจดีย์ในอดีต เพื่อนำมาเป็นแนวทางในการการออกแบบพื้นที่ที่เอื้อให้จิตมีความสงบระงับ จิตมีศีล จิตมีความตั้งมั่น จิตมีสมาธิ จิตได้รู้เห็นตามความเป็นจริงของธรรมชาติ จิตมีปัญญา มีความสะอาด สว่าง สงบเย็น ผลการศึกษาพบว่า หลักในการเข้าถึงพุทธธรรม คือ ศีล สมาธิ ปัญญา เป็นเกณฑ์ในการออกแบบพุทธประทีปมหาสถูปเจดีย์ และมีหลักคิดอยู่ 4 ข้อ ได้แก่ 1. นิมิตหมายแห่งปัญญา คือ องค์พุทธประทีปมหาสถูปเจดีย์เป็นศูนย์รวมจิตใจ 2. มณฑลศักดิ์สิทธิ์ คือ พื้นที่แห่งความสงบจิตตั้งมั่นของจิต 3. พื้นที่สัปปายะ คือ พื้นที่แห่งความสบายกายและสบายใจ โดยมีความสงบเย็นเป็นตัวชี้วัด 4. พื้นที่ที่เป็นสากล คือ พื้นที่ในการศึกษาเรียนรู้และปฏิบัติธรรมอบรมพัฒนาจิต ตามหลักพุทธธรรมให้พ้นจากทุกข์ได้ทุกเวลา ทุกชาติพันธุ์ และทุกศาสนา สรุปผลของการศึกษา จึงได้หลักในการออกแบบพื้นที่ศักดิ์สิทธิ์ในการยังประโยชน์ทางจิตวิญญาณ ไปสู่ชีวิตที่เป็นอิสระหลุดพ้นจากความทุกข์ มีความสัปปายะ ด้วยการทำให้จิตสงบระงับ มีศีล ให้จิตมีสมาธิตั้งมั่น ให้จิตรู้เห็นตามความเป็นจริงของธรรมชาติ มีปัญญาญาณ

Interviews with 27 professionals were performed to investigate what designers, engineers, and their managers value in sustainable design practices, and see how sustainable design practices might also provide innovation. Quantitative and qualitative analysis found that only 1/6th of design practices were valued for both sustainability and innovation; two often-mentioned practices were systems thinking and The Natural Step. Providing a new lens, broadening scope, and problem redefinition were some of the reasons these and other design practices were valued for both sustainability and innovation.

Two significant design strategies for mitigating building energy consumption are daylight redirection and solar energy harvesting. Good daylighting implementation enhances the amount of useful natural light within a space, thereby offsetting the need for electric lighting. Solar energy harvesting systems can mitigate energy costs from mechanical systems by managing incoming thermal loads or capturing solar energy that can be used to supplement thermal systems in the building. In this study, the strength of cold-formed Z-section purlins is predicted considering the effects of roof slope in real roof systems. The study applies to simple span purlins with torsion restraints at support locations and at paired locations along the length of the member. A previously developed method has shown through comparisons to base tests that when the biaxial bending and torsion stresses are incorporated into the analysis, the Direct Strength Method can accurately predict the strength of a purlin. Traditional ultrasonic testing (UT) techniques have been widely used to detect surface and sub-surface defects of welds. UT inspection is a contact method which burdens the manufacturer by storing hot specimens for inspection when the material is cool. Additionally, UT is only valid for 5 mm specimens or thicker and requires a highly skilled operator to perform the inspections and interpret the signals. Roughly 2,459.32 acres of land throughout the historic City of Newport, Rhode Island fall within the hundred-year floodplain associated with sea level rise. Through examination of precedents in Louisiana and Charleston, South Carolina, this study analyzes best practices and government policies for adapting historic structures to be more climate-change resilient.
