I propose to design a Center for Sustainability that serves as a place to educate students and the public, as well as provide a place to research and experiment, in an effort to further the developing technologies of this ecological study. While living in a perpetually changing world, I believe a place is needed to teach about these changes as well as adapt to them. I propose to build a center that both educates people about the background of the subject as well as teaching them the present, practical aspects of sustainability. It will allow for a variety of learning activities and play, a variety of spaces for independent and group activities, and overall freedom for the students. Also, the school will be flexible for whatever changes occur in the users and activities in the spaces over the life of the school. The building will be planned to maximize the amount of fresh air and sunlight to lessen the dependence on artificial light and HVAC systems.

The purpose of this study was to compare and contrast the current practices of citizen involvement in community tourism planning with the framework of deliberative democracy. The goal of this study was to expand the literature on tourism planning which currently lacks a working framework for participatory community tourism planning. Drawing from political philosophy, democratic theory, and planning literature, this study utilized the framework of deliberative democracy and planning as communicative action, in order to contribute to the development of a model of participatory community tourism planning.

Tilt-up buildings have been successfully designed and constructed throughout the United States for over fifty years. Today, the tiltup method of construction is used extensively to build all types of buildings, currently at a rate of 300,000,000 square feet of tilt-up concrete panels constructed in the United States each year. Spotlight On Construction: St. Simons' Library Welcomed 70th Anniversary In New Facility

The article announces the grand opening event of the St. Simons Public Library in Georgia in January 2007. The library also celebrated its 70th anniversary on March 16. According to Libby Hogan, chair of the library's board of directors, they have 1,200 extra square feet of space in the renovated building. St. Simons joined the Three Rivers Public Library System (TRRLS) and PINES (Public Information Network for Electronic Services), bringing its patrons access to more than 8.5 million items owned by other PINES member libraries. The library currently has approximately 35,000 volumes, according to manager Maureen Hersey.

Spotlight On Construction: Forsyth County Public Library Unveils Expansion, Renovation

The article unveils the expansion and renovation of Forsyth County Public Library in Georgia. A 15,000-square-foot Administrative Office facility was added to the Cumming Library building which provide space for headquarters staff. The new design scheme features mahogany furnishings, traditionally styled, such as end panels and the circulation desk. The children's area doubled in size and large murals were painted on two walls. The biggest challenge of the renovation was moving the collection and shelving to lay new carpet.

Hedonic Housing Prices In Ciudad Juarez, Karen P. Fierro

Studies of the valuation of housing attributes abound. Empirical studies of this nature for Latin America and Mexico are less common. This study utilizes data for 175 new houses in Ciudad Juarez to estimate a hedonic pricing model. All units in the sample were completed and sold between November 2006 and April 2007. For each house, a total of fourteen characteristics, both structural and locational, are employed as explanatory variables. Empirical results indicate that the structural characteristics play a bigger role than the neighborhood amenities. Surprisingly, neighborhood parks are found to lower housing values

This is the second volume in a series of final reports documenting the large-scale excavations at the site of Maresha, mainly in the Lower City, during the 1980s and 1990s. In the Hellenistic period, Maresha was an important and multi-cultural city. Hellenistic terracottas are a varied and widespread medium of Hellenistic art of a religious and cultic nature. The extensive repertoire presented here, mostly found in residential contexts during the excavations of the mid-1980s to 1996, opens a window onto the city’s culture, religion and daily life. It describes their typology as well as the production methods and techniques.

This large cemetery is associated with the city of Bet Guvrin–Eleutheropolis in the Judean Shephelah, which began as a Jewish village, then transforming into a central Roma–Byzantine polis and administrative center. The cemeteries comprise varying types of burial caves hewn into the soft-limestone bedrock in dense clusters over a prolonged period of some 500 years. The architecture, symbols and artifacts, including pottery, ceramic oil lamps, glass and other small finds, enabled a chronological typology of the caves, reflecting the socioeconomic and ethno-religious standing of the mixed pagan, Jewish and Christian population of the city.

Universities today need to become quicker on their toes. They must continually scan the environment and seize emerging opportunities – and institutional advancement must lead this effort. An unfortunate number of institutional advancement operations are ill equipped for the task at hand. Many suffer from high staff turnover and overly hierarchical systems that refl ect excessive fragmentation and compartmentalization. They inadvertently perpetuate stifl ing and unnecessary bureaucracy. This research project investigated the community’s current level of heritage awareness in County Wicklow. The study was initiated by Wicklow County Council and the Heritage Council in response to objective 1, action 1.2 of the County Wicklow heritage plan 2004-2008, which pointed to the need to undertake a study to determine public attitudes towards heritage and to gauge the current level of awareness about heritage in the county. Chemical fate models can be used to estimate the transformation reactions and the partitioning behavior of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) in sewage treatment plants (STPs). Modeling the fate of PPCPs in a STP requires parameters such as rate constants or partition coefficients that are often unique to a specific STP, and that may exhibit significant temporal variability. Chemical fate models provide both a valuable test of our understanding of the fundamental underlying mechanisms regarding the fate of PPCPs in STPs, as well as a means of providing both qualitative and quantitative estimates for PPCP removal. One hazard faced by such habitats is the damage that can be caused by the impact of a meteoroid on a critical habitat structure or structural component. in this paper we discuss various approaches to meteoroid shielding for lunar habitats, focusing on approaches that use resources mined or extracted from the moon. Because of the high occupant density in aircraft, the surface chemistry of ozone and squalene, an important component of skin oil, was evaluated. a reaction probability of 45±14) x 10 -5 was determined for the reaction of squalene (2,6,10,15,19,23-hexamethyl-2,6,10,14,18,22- tetracosahexaene) with ozone (50 parts per billion (ppb)) on a glass plate surface using the Field and Laboratory Emission Cell (FLEC) Automation and Control System (FACS). to more clearly define part of squalene's indoor environment degradation mechanism, gas-phase and surface-bound products of the squalene+O3 reaction were also investigated. A nationwide model predicts the annual county-to-county person roundtrips for air taxi, commercial airline, and automobile at 1-year intervals through 2030. the transportation systems analysis model (TSAM) uses the four-step transportation systems modeling process to calculate trip generation, trip distribution, and mode choice for each county origin-destination pair. Network assignment is formulated for commercial airline and air taxi demand. TSAM classifies trip rates by trip purpose, household income group, and type of metropolitan statistical area from which the round-trip started. a graphical user interface with geographic information systems capability is included in the model.
