Dynamics Of Nodes: Adaptation Of Interior Places In A Historic Waterfront Community For Sustainability, Thanapan Laiprakobsup, Narongpon Laiprakobsup Jan 2025

Dynamics Of Nodes: Adaptation Of Interior Places In A Historic Waterfront Community For Sustainability, Thanapan Laiprakobsup, Narongpon Laiprakobsup

Interiority

This study aims to investigate environmental interiority and urban conditions which promote adaptations of nodes as foci of place in the historic, suburban waterfront community. Nodes, existing as strategic places as public activity settings, on the other hand, have been barely examined in terms of the dynamic transition of interior places among urbanisation. The study argues that nodal adaptations taking up dynamic development play crucial functional roles in sustaining a waterfront community in connection with the implementation of place resources and accessible opportunities of new transportation networks. Nodal adaptations lead to the emergence of new functions and place identity in …

There is also a lack of a specific methodology for collecting local waste at the republic level. The research aims to develop a methodology for managing these wastes, starting …

Suburbanization As A Post-Industrial Essentiality: Revisiting Sweden's Miljonprogrammet, Colin Wood Jan 2025

Suburbanization As A Post-Industrial Essentiality: Revisiting Sweden's Miljonprogrammet, Colin Wood

Swarthmore Undergraduate History Journal

Definitively speaking, suburbanization does not equate to post-industrialism in the same limelight as would urbanization and industrialism. However, anomalous cases, such as the one being discussed in this paper, tangentially interlink on a socioeconomic basis. In 1965, Sweden began construction of the Miljonprogrammet (Million Programme), where over the next ten years, over one million domiciles were built in a suburban setting leading to a mass diaspora of ‘slum living’ Swedish industrial workers. The nation’s renowned welfare state, built on a collaborative system between public and private sectors as well as federal and municipal actors, overlooked housing in its social …

Effect Of Displacement Rate On Delamination Growth Rate In Unidirectional Glass Fiber Composites In Both Bridging And Non-Bridging Scenarios, Wafaa Ahmed Shaker, Taher H. Awad, Mostafa M. Elhadary Jan 2025

Effect Of Displacement Rate On Delamination Growth Rate In Unidirectional Glass Fiber Composites In Both Bridging And Non-Bridging Scenarios, Wafaa Ahmed Shaker, Taher H. Awad, Mostafa M. Elhadary

Mansoura Engineering Journal

Experimentally, the mode I delamination behavior of unidirectional glass/epoxy composites at quasi-static displacement rates of 1, 3, and 5 is explored. When comparing the variation between fracture toughness GIC values at 1 mm/min and GIC at 3 mm/min, the average variation is 30% increasing. However, the average variance in GIC between 3 mm/min and 5 mm/min is increasing by 11%. As a result, the crack propagation velocity has a noticeable effect on the value of GIC at lower speeds and a limited effect at higher speeds. The same comparison is made with bridging specimens for 1 and 3 mm/min displacement …

Anthropology Of Enabling People With Hearing Difficulties In Pub-Lic Entertainment Spaces: "A Case Study Of The Nile Corniche In Minia City", Amna Waz Amgad Jan 2025

Anthropology Of Enabling People With Hearing Difficulties In Pub-Lic Entertainment Spaces: "A Case Study Of The Nile Corniche In Minia City", Amna Waz Amgad

Journal of Engineering Research

God compensates a person who suffers from a hearing defect by allowing that sense to give way to the part of his perception that it was expected to occupy, stimulating another sense, or by requiring him to interact with his society in other ways to compensate for the effects of his defect. As a result, the research problem was the need to develop open public entertainment spaces that are more welcoming to people who have hearing difficulties. Each individual can enjoy the space in accordance with his or her own needs, thereby implementing the Egyptian Constitution's principle of equality among …

Journal of Engineering Research

This study investigates the bond strength between lightweight concrete and steel elements in composite deck slabs, with a focus on enhancing bond performance through the use of shear connectors. The primary objective was to improve the interface behavior between lightweight concrete and steel corrugated sheets by introducing shear connectors between the composite slab and supporting steel beams. Both experimental and analytical methods were employed. Experimentally, twelve lightweight concrete specimens were fabricated and divided into two groups: one without shear connectors and the other with shear connectors. Each group was further classified into specimens with long and short spans. These specimens …

A Comparative Lca Of Light Gauge Steel And Traditional Masonry For Dwellings, Youssef Elkhayat Jan 2025

A Comparative Lca Of Light Gauge Steel And Traditional Masonry For Dwellings, Youssef Elkhayat

Journal of Engineering Research

Recently, it is evident that the light gauge steel modular dwellings are currently considered as a solution to enable mass home creation in Ireland. However, this type of structure is not considered for its sustainability or embodied carbon (EC) qualities. Life cycle assessment of this new method versus the traditional method of construction is a must with the aim of developing the innovation in construction methods. This paper compares the EC of a light gauge steel (LGS) modular dwelling against a traditional masonry (TM) dwelling to gain insight into the sustainability quality of this new structure typology and how low …

Experimental And Numerical Investigation For Optimum Design Of Hydraulic Steel Gates, Basma Hassan Mohamed Eng, Ahmed Mohamed Anwer Dr, Hanan Eltobgy Prof., Gamal Helmy El-Saeed Prof

Journal of Engineering Research

Conventionally, steel gates are widely used in hydraulic structures for their superior mechanical properties in sustaining hydrostatic pressure. Maintenance and operational costs should be considered while studying the feasibility of these gates. In the current research, three prototype steel gates with different configurations were prepared and examined experimentally. The three gates have the same surface dimensions of (width x height) equal to (1.0 x 1.25 m). The first steel gate represents a typical traditional gate made of skin plate and stiffened laterally using standard steel channels and will be kept for comparison. The second gate represents a standard thicker plate …

The Design Studio Dilemma The “Slicing Method”, Yasser Osman El Gammal Associate Professor Dr. Jan 2025

The Design Studio Dilemma The “Slicing Method”, Yasser Osman El Gammal Associate Professor Dr.

Journal of Engineering Research

The design studio presents a multifaceted challenge due to the absence of a direct teaching approach, relying heavily on the teacher's expertise, design acumen, and pace. Furthermore, much of the existing literature on design studio methods tends to be philosophical or opinion-based, lacking practical solutions for ongoing challenges in this domain. While it's easy for scholars to theorize, offering comprehensive procedures to address design studio issues proves considerably more difficult. There's no unanimous agreement on the topic; most design studio models are based on individual opinions as scholars and practitioners view the topic from different angles, developing their own perspectives. …
