الاقتصاد التشاركي والتحول نحو المدن التشاركية Sharing Economy And The Move Towards Sharing Cities, Basant Tarek Youssef, Ahmed Yousry, Heba Mohamed Ammar
Journal of Engineering Research
Abstract-The concept of the sharing economy appeared for the first time during the global financial crisis in 2008. It is an economy based on a sharing method of consumption and meeting needs without ownership to preserve resources and reduce expenses. Due to the rapid spread of sharing economy applications worldwide, such as the Uber/Airbnb application, many researchers in various sectors question how to benefit from this new economic model. The research deals with studying the concept of sharing and types of sharing, the concept of the sharing economy, and the classification of its various sectors, which led to the …

Journal of Engineering Research
Abstract- Pedestrian well-being is significantly influenced by the feeling of being thermally comfortable, and enhancing this comfort level contributes to the overall walkability. This study extensively compares the impact of different approaches in enhancing thermal comfort for pedestrians. The evaluation encompasses both fieldwork observations and computer simulations results. The investigated strategies include the urban geometry (arrangement, orientation and shape of urban structures), vegetation, solar-reflective materials, and water features. These strategies are considered the most effective means for improving outdoor thermal comfort. The findings reveal that the key climatic factors influencing outdoor thermal comfort in a microclimate are mean radiant temperature, …

Optimal Site Layout Planning For Construction Projects Over Waterways, Rana M. Azzam, Nashwa Mohamed Yossef Prof, Adel I. Eldosouky Prof
Journal of Engineering Research
Construction site layout planning is an important part of a project's success. An effective construction layout plan can enhance the performance of the construction process by improving productivity, ensuring safety, and reducing costs. Given the importance of bridges over a waterway and the lack of interest in previous research for planning a construction site over a waterway. This paper concentrates on the problems of site planning for such projects, including the problem of limited site space. The study indicated that constructing an offshore terminal is one of the primary requirements for projects with limited space being carried out on a …

Influence Of Concrete Jacketing On The Performance Of Steel Columns Under Blast Induced Progressive Collapse, Hanan Eltobgy Prof., Mohamed Saeed Refaey Dr., Mohamed Ahmed Aboshok Dr., Ahmed Emadel-Din Abdel-Aal Eng.
Journal of Engineering Research
This study investigates the influence of concrete jacketing on the performance of steel columns subjected to blast loading, which can lead to progressive collapse. Using Finite Element Method (FEM) simulations, the research evaluates concrete-encased steel columns with different concrete cover thicknesses to measure their resistance to lateral displacements induced by blasts. Findings reveal that increasing the thickness of the concrete cover markedly improves the column's ability to withstand such loads. The study also highlights that steel has better energy dissipation properties than concrete. It examines how the combined challenges of progressive collapse and blast loading influence the overall structural response …

Use Of Building Information Modeling (Bim) In The Management Of Construction Sector In Egypt, Asmaa Said Khalifa, Eman Attia, Hesham Awad
Use Of Building Information Modeling (Bim) In The Management Of Construction Sector In Egypt, Asmaa Said Khalifa, Eman Attia, Hesham Awad
Journal of Engineering Research
Purpose – The application of Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology in Egypt is hindered by inadequacies or insufficient experience, as only a handful of companies and institutions are able to create three-dimensional models using this technology. Additionally, the majority of architectural education curricula do not fully incorporate BIM. The majority of Egyptian graduates in the fields of architecture, construction, and engineering lack the necessary knowledge or expertise to use BIM technology because universities in Egypt primarily focus on teaching CAD technology rather than BIM technology. This may be because BIM technology is still relatively new or because there aren't many …

Unlocking The Potential Of Rooftop Sustainable Systems: Understanding Barriers And Facilitators, Mahmoud Desouki, Taghreed A. El-Haddad
Journal of Engineering Research
Urbanization is reducing green spaces in old cities globally, including Egypt, adversely impacting air quality, climate, and psychological well-being. The rooftop has the potential to offer viable alternatives that provide multiple benefits. They can host sustainable systems, and foster social activities. Despite these advantages, their adoption in cities like Tanta the Egyptian city, one of the world's most densely populated cities with a shrinking per capita green space, remains limited. Most rooftops are often serving as dumping grounds for trash and unused items. This study aims to explore the reasons behind this underutilization to find ways to encourage the use …

Architectural projects often rely on modern technologies like smart architecture and environmental treatments, neglecting the principles and philosophy that reflect civilization, ideas, culture, and traditions. This leads to short-lived buildings that depend on these technologies without any purpose of preserving them. Technicians must constantly renew technology to improve production and without benefits, as threats of superior artificial intelligence have been warned, that autonomous machines may perform tasks without programmers understanding how to reach this level. Instead of relying solely on environmental or smart technology, we should make technology serve the design idea rather than relying solely on it. Considering this, …
