Simplified Technique For Removal Of Prefabricated Threaded Posts, Mohammad M. Rayyan, Ammar M. Alwaely Jan 2020

Simplified Technique For Removal Of Prefabricated Threaded Posts, Mohammad M. Rayyan, Ammar M. Alwaely

BAU Journal - Creative Sustainable Development

This paper describes a time-saving procedure for the removal of prefabricated threaded posts. In this technique, a slit is prepared in the head of the post to-be-removed so that it can be engaged by a jewelers’ precision stainless steel flat-blade screwdriver which would drive it out when rotated counterclockwise. This simple technique spares the clinician valuable time and effort during removal, requires minimal or no loss of valuable tooth structure compared to other techniques. It is also conservative in the sense that it does not expose dental tissue to thermal insults from use of ultrasound.

Escape Route Designs And Specifications For Office Buildings - “Cciat” Building As A Case Study, Mostafa El-Hefnawi

BAU Journal - Creative Sustainable Development

Many office buildings encounter various problems with their fire safety evacuation designs. The Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture Tripoli - North Lebanon (CCIAT) is considered the only modern office building in its context that lacks fire escape elements and emergency plans. This paper presents an analysis and proposals for an optimal evacuation scenario for the case of the CCIAT building, and develop solutions for similar office buildings. The problem is interpreted with reference to the positions of existing staircases and lifts and their connectivity with occupants’ offices and other facilities on the floors, in order to provide a comprehensive …

Heritage Cities After Wars: Between Tradition And Innovation - A Case Study Of Beirut In Lebanon, Mary Felix Jan 2020

Heritage Cities After Wars: Between Tradition And Innovation - A Case Study Of Beirut In Lebanon, Mary Felix

BAU Journal - Creative Sustainable Development

Urban heritage is one of the most important aspects that identify a city’s history and evolution. Rebuilding cities after war is a concept that takes into consideration several aspects of maintaining a visual memory of urban heritage. A proper understanding of heritage aspects and elements should be considered in new extensions and the redesigning of old parts of cities, especially after wars. Beirut in Lebanon is one of the Middle Eastern cities that have been rehabilitated and rebuilt successfully after suffering from several wars. This research discusses and analyses conservation approaches that have been used in old parts of Beirut …

BAU Journal - Creative Sustainable Development

This paper focuses on the impact of indoor finishing material contaminations such as Formaldehyde (HCHO) and Volatile organic compounds (VOCS). These contaminations are reflected through harmful effects on the health of occupants in the indoor environment, reflecting negatively on the comfort, satisfaction, and productivity of inhabitants in the indoor environment. The research focuses particularly on educational buildings as a case study and the effect of contaminations in a design studio located in a faculty building of a university in Debbieh, Lebanon. During the first year of building use, the study checked the concentration of (HCHO) and (VOCS) through the use …

The Appropriate Building Materials For Energy Saving In Different Climate Zones In Egypt, Eslam M. Elsamahy, Mary Felix Jan 2020

The Appropriate Building Materials For Energy Saving In Different Climate Zones In Egypt, Eslam M. Elsamahy, Mary Felix

BAU Journal - Creative Sustainable Development

Nowadays, reducing energy consumption is globally considered a matter of high priority on the different levels of community and economic interest, especially in the developing countries, due to the growing shortage of traditional energy resources with the rapidly increasing energy prices and its impact on the natural environment through the consumption of various energy resources such as fossil fuels. The residential building sector is responsible for consuming a large percentage of energy, especially that used in heating and cooling, which could be reduced through using different passive design strategies, such as designing the building shape, setting the optimum orientation and …

Impact Of Bim On Building Design Quality, Khaled Sadek, Ibtihal El-Bastawissi, Rokia Raslan, Samer Sayary

BAU Journal - Creative Sustainable Development

During last decades, the aim of new technologies was to develop new information systems to automate manual processes. Large-scale projects in the field of construction industry need a different approach to organize and analyze data creating a database without any duplication or redundancy. Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a teamwork process using advanced technologies to generate data modeling. Based on a literature review, the present research proposes a set of hypotheses that links BIM implementation with the enhancement of information sharing capability (ISC) and collaborative decision capability (CDC) in the construction sector of the building industry. Consequently, it relates the …

Wildlife Ecology And Conservation In A Suburban Preserve Matrix: Applications Of Long-Term Monitoring Data, John Peter Vanek Jan 2020

Wildlife Ecology And Conservation In A Suburban Preserve Matrix: Applications Of Long-Term Monitoring Data, John Peter Vanek

Graduate Research Theses & Dissertations

Wildlife is important to humans, offering economic, nutritional, ecological, and socio-cultural value. However, vertebrate biodiversity is being lost at rates 100 times greater than the background extinction rate, threatening human livelihood via the loss of ecosystem services. These human-induced species losses are primarily due to habitat destruction, which is increasingly tied to urban development. Conservation of wildlife resources is therefore imperative in a world where more than 50% of the human population, and 80% of people living in the United States, now live in urban areas. In this dissertation, I demonstrate how monitoring data can be applied to answer questions …

Partitioning Variation In Vegetation And Landscape Functionality In Arid Land Piosphere, Eahsan Shahriary Jan 2020

Partitioning Variation In Vegetation And Landscape Functionality In Arid Land Piosphere, Eahsan Shahriary

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

A piosphere is an interaction between vegetation community, watering point, and grazing livestock/wildlife. In this Dissertation, I begin by reviewing the concept of the piosphere, and the progress, knowledge gaps and common statistical approaches and errors in piosphere research. Landscape functionality, plant community distribution and their influencing factors on a piosphere in Iran are then investigated.

A total 862 piosphere publications of multiple types from 68 countries and 10 different languages during the period of 1915 â?? 2018 were reviewed. Australia was the most productive country followed by South Africa, the USA, Botswana and Argentina. Ivan Thrash is the most …

Saving Software And Using Emulation To Reproduce Computationally Dependent Research Results, Euan Cochrane, Limor Peer, Ethan Gates, Seth Anderson Dec 2019

Saving Software And Using Emulation To Reproduce Computationally Dependent Research Results, Euan Cochrane, Limor Peer, Ethan Gates, Seth Anderson

Yale Day of Data

Using digital data necessarily involves software. How do institutions think about software in the context of the long-term usability of their data assets? How do they address usability challenges uniquely posed by software such as, license restrictions, legacy software, code rot, and dependencies? These questions are germane to the agenda set forth by the FAIR principles. At Yale University, a team in the Library is looking into the application of a novel approach to emulation as a potential solution. In this presentation, we will outline the work of the Emulation as a Service Infrastructure (EaaSI) program, discuss our plans for …

63 | Jerusalem: Western Wall Plaza Excavations Volume I The Roman And Byzantine Remains: Architecture And Stratigraphy, Shlomit Weksler-Bdolah, Alexander Onn

IAA Reports—Monograph Series of the Israel Antiquities Authority

This is the first volume in a series describing the results of salvage excavations conducted in the northwestern part of the Western Wall Plaza. Despite the fact that the Old City of Jerusalem has been continuously investigated during the last 150 years, it is the first time that this area, located c. 100 m west of the Temple Mount, has been excavated and thus, the results are of great significance. This volume describes our excavations that descended to bedrock, exposing 15 strata that span 2700–2800 years, from the Late Iron Age quarries to the Roman and Byzantine Eastern Cardo, its …

64 | Jerusalem: Western Wall Plaza Excavations Volume Ii The Pottery From The Eastern Cardo, Renate Rosenthal-Heginbottom

IAA Reports—Monograph Series of the Israel Antiquities Authority

This volume is the second in a series describing the results of salvage excavations conducted in the northwestern part of the Western Wall Plaza. This volume presents the Roman pottery from the Eastern Cardo, most of which originated in the ‘Roman refuse dump’, a fill deposited into an abandoned quarry during infrastructure work, and then sealed by the paving stones of the Eastern Cardo. The well-preserved and securely dated finds (70–130 CE) can be clearly attributed to the Roman army.
