Teaching Civil Engineering Design: Observations And Experiences, Charles Darwin Morris, Roger A. Laboube

Civil engineering design is an inspired activity. It offers the engineer a high degree of autonomy to conceive or create a unique, state-of-the-art, functional, costeffective facility. Civil engineering design calls on the talent of the engineer to balance the client's end-use requirements and financial resources, with the safety ofthe occupants. Because the process of engineering design has such a vast degree of freedom, teaching the concepts inherent in design is a very challenging, and at times frustrating, endeavor. The present paper discusses the many facets of the senior design course developed at the University of Missouri- Rolla to include a …

Biodegradation of Trichloroethlyene (TCE) in a Hollow Fiber Membrane Bioreactor Was Investigated using a Mutant of the Methanotrophic Bacteria, Methylosinus Trichosporium 0B3b. Contaminated Water Flowed through the Lumen (I.e., Fiber Interior), and the Bacteria Circulated through the Shell Side of the Membrane Module and an External Growth Reactor. in Mass Transfer Studies with a Radial Cross-Flow Membrane Module, 78.3-99.9% of the TCE Was Removed from the Lumen at Hydraulic Residence Times of 3-15 Min in the Lumen and the Shell. in Biodegradation Experiments, 80-95% of the TCE Was Removed from the Lumen at Hydraulic Residence Times of 5-9 Min in …
Using Polyster Waste With Cotton Waste On Open - End Spinning Machine, Rizk El-Bealy, Ismail Mousa Rakha, F. Fahim
Using Polyster Waste With Cotton Waste On Open - End Spinning Machine, Rizk El-Bealy, Ismail Mousa Rakha, F. Fahim
Mansoura Engineering Journal
The present work intended to study the spinning performance of mixed "cotton/polyester" waste fibers from existing mills on open-end spinning machine, cotton waste fibers "comber nolls, card strips and penu mafil" were extracted from cotton fiber Giza 75 and polyester card strips were used. The blends and preliminary processing equipment are selected correctly and rotor machine is set correctly. The mixed waste fibers are spun mainly into yarn ranging from 98 tex to 22.7 tex at maximum properties. The results fédiéete that the blend of polyester waste fibres with cotton waste composition resulted in increasing the effective fibre length of …
Edge Strength Of Window Glass By Mechanical Test, Chris P. Pantelides, Gregory P. Sallee, Joseph E. Minor
Edge Strength Of Window Glass By Mechanical Test, Chris P. Pantelides, Gregory P. Sallee, Joseph E. Minor
Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
A mechanical test is described that can be used to measure the edge strength of annealed and heat-strengthened glass. The mechanical test apparatus stresses only one of the two edge-lines on the edge of a glass specimen. The testing concept employs the theory of unsymmetrical bending. The test device loads glass specimens in a manner that places tensile stresses on the tested edge-line while keeping the other edge-lines at zero stress or in compression. In annealed glass tests, the scored edge-line was found to be 20% weaker than the edge-line opposite the scored edge-line. Comparisons between the edge strengths of …
Eureka General Plan Update, Susie Van Kirk
Eureka General Plan Update, Susie Van Kirk
Susie Van Kirk Papers
Historic resources within the City of Eureka's planning area, which extends from College of the Redwoods to Indianola, reflect the region's development since its settlement in 1850. Significant in the area's social, economic, and architectural history, these resources include a diversity of structures, sites, groups, neighborhoods, and communities, each of which contributes to the planning area's aesthetic qualities and historic context. They are the tangible evidence of the regions past and a heritage to be valued by this and future generations.
