As the number of Internet of Things (IoT) devices increases daily due to the rapid growth in technology, every device and network is vulnerable to attacks because it is exposed to the internet. Denial of Service (DoS) is a prevalent type of intrusion on the IoT network in which the server becomes down due to flooding requests. Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) is a special type of DoS attack where the network of malicious computers called botnet consumes the target's system resources by flooding the requests. Edge computing is closely related to Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), and industry 4.0. …

Understanding Flow: An Experimental Analysis Of A Magnetohydrodynamic Fluid Pump, Quintin Yates, Emily Hawkins
Understanding Flow: An Experimental Analysis Of A Magnetohydrodynamic Fluid Pump, Quintin Yates, Emily Hawkins
Honors Thesis
When a magnetic field and electrical current are perpendicular to each other, an ionized fluid will experience a force called the Lorentz force. This force can be applied to create a pump. These pumps have potential applications in desalination and fluid systems in space. The technology is new, and still not well understood but are a potential alternative to typical mechanical pumps. This thesis develops a comprehensive experimental understanding of the fluid flow through a 3D-printed magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) pump. Lagrangian particle tracking (LPT) uses neutrally buoyant particles and a camera system to collect quantitative velocity information of a system. Particle …
Evaluating The Effectiveness Of Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors In Reducing Migraine Frequency In Adults: A Literature Review, Samantha Tully
Evaluating The Effectiveness Of Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors In Reducing Migraine Frequency In Adults: A Literature Review, Samantha Tully
Nursing Capstones
This scoping review aims to evaluate current literature on selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) for migraine prevention and prophylaxis in adults. Key themes and gaps in the research are identified. A systematic review was completed across two databases including PubMed and Cochrane. Fifteen studies have been examined in this review with a range of publication dates from 1999 to 2022. Based on this literature review, the author concludes that SSRIs may reduce migraine frequency and severity in the adult population through their action to increase serotonin availability and stabilize serotonin levels. Further research is needed in this area.

Shaw, Yunsoo Choi
Michigan Tech Publications
Thermal convection in a closed chamber is driven by a warm bottom, a cold top, and side walls at various temperatures. Although wall fluxes are the source of convection energy, accurately modeling these fluxes (i.e., the wall model) is challenging. In large-eddy simulations (LESs), many wall models are traditionally derived from the canonical boundary layer, which may be unsuitable for thermal convection bounded by both horizontal and vertical walls. This study conducts a model intercomparison of dry convection in a cubic-meter chamber using three direct numerical simulations (DNSs) and four LESs with different wall models. The LESs employ traditional wall …

Cancer remains a leading global health challenge, with high mortality rates persisting despite significant advancements in therapeutic interventions. Major obstacles, including systemic toxicity, therapy resistance, metastasis, and relapses, emphasize the urgent need for safer, more effective, and readily accessible treatment strategies. Among emerging alternatives, natural bioactive compounds have gained considerable attention because of their diverse therapeutic potential and lower toxicity profiles. Urolithin A (UA), a metabolite derived from ellagic acid through gut microbiota metabolism, has emerged as a compelling anticancer agent. UA has multiple mechanisms of action, including the regulation of autophagy, enhancement of mitochondrial function, and inhibition of tumor …

Spherical Spiky Zno/Au Nanostructures For Efficient Photoelectrochemical Watersplitting, Kouroush Sali̇mi̇
Spherical Spiky Zno/Au Nanostructures For Efficient Photoelectrochemical Watersplitting, Kouroush Sali̇mi̇
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Spiky zinc oxide (ZnO)/Au nanostructures with spherical shape-defined morphologies were synthesized using polydopamine as a starting template for photoelectrochemical H2 production under visible light-emitting diode (LED) illumination. This low-temperature processing technique not only facilitated the fabrication of ideal plasmon-sensitive heterostructures, but also enhanced the electron mobility of the photoanodes, reaching 5.7 mA/cm² [at 1.0 V vs. the reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE)] under visible LED illumination (30 mW/cm2). This notable value was 28 times greater than that observed under dark conditions, primarily attributed to the close Schottky contact between the Au and ZnO spikes. The highest applied bias photon-to-current efficiency value …

Ecofriendly Synthesis And Characterization Of Oxygen-Enriched G-C3n4 From Diverse Precursors For Efficient Organic Dye Decontamination, Muchammad Tamyiz
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Industrial wastewater from sectors such as textiles, printing, and pharmaceuticals contains harmful pollutants, including nonbiodegradable dyes, which pose significant challenges for environmental safety. Neutral red, a cationic dye commonly found in wastewater, obstructs photosynthesis in aquatic ecosystems and carries potential toxicity. Traditional methods of dye removal often prove ineffective due to the chemical stability of these compounds. In this study, oxygen-doped graphitic carbon nitride (O-doped g-C3N4) was synthesized as an innovative photocatalyst for the degradation of neutral red dye under visible light. The material was synthesized through a sustainable process involving the calcination of urea, dicyandiamide, and oxalic acid, and …

Serological Detection Of Toxoplasma Gondii In Local Duck Birds, And Gallus Gallus In Basrah Province, Iraq, Ameer Ibrahim Abdulzahra, Alaa Ismail Saood, Afaq Talib Farhood
Baghdad Science Journal
Toxoplasma gondii was widely spread in humans and other animals, including domestic poultry, worldwide and depends on a unique collection of secretory and cytoskeletal organelles for host cell invasion. The meat of T. gondii infected poultry which includes chickens and ducks was widely consumed in most countries and was known as a primary source of human infection. In Iraq generally and in Basrah province especially, the prevalence of T. gondii in local ducks (Anas platyrhynchos domesticus) and domestic chicken (Gallus gallus) was scarcely known. In the current study, the Latex Agglutination Test (LAT) and (TOX) Toxoplasma IgM/IgG Antibody Rapid Test …

Evervital Patch: The Design And Development Of A Continuous Cardiac Monitoring Device For Post-Operative, In-Hospital Patients, Abigail Moeller, Jonathan Seid
Honors Theses
In the United States, due to the increasing prevalence of cardiovascular disease, over 900,000 cardiac surgeries are performed annually, with projections exceeding 1.3 million by 2029. Many post-surgical patients require continuous in-hospital cardiac monitoring, which is typically conducted using electrocardiograms (EKGs). However, traditional EKG systems such as bedside cardiac monitors and cardiac telemetry monitors rely on wired leads that can easily tangle, degrade signal quality, and require frequent readjustments or replacements due to wire breakage, and for the patient, this can cause discomfort from prolonged use. To overcome these challenges, our company, CardioSync, aims to develop a wireless cardiac monitoring …

Critical race theory has enabled followers to understand some of the twists and turns of racial history and the rise and fall of constitutional values such as equal protection. But does it have anything useful to say about blackletter subjects such as civil procedure?
In the following chronicle, Rodrigo and his straight man, “the Professor,” discuss whether legal storytelling and narrative analysis can counteract one source of unfairness in our procedural system.
Meeting by chance during a routine errand by the Professor, the two discuss Iqbal, Twombly, and the heightened plausibility requirement they impose for filing a complaint …
Rural Legal Markets, Elizabeth Chambliss
Rural Legal Markets, Elizabeth Chambliss
Texas A&M Law Review
Research on rural access to justice tends to appeal to a romantic conception of rural lawyers as accessible generalists who serve the public through pro bono, low bono, and community service, and some characterize rural private practice as public interest work. Many commentators call for law school, bar, and government programs to attract law graduates to rural practice and at least 15 states have implemented such programs. Yet we know very little about modern rural legal markets or the recipes for sustainable private practice in rural places. The last statewide study of rural private practice was conducted in the 1980s. …
Does The Press Get Special Rights?, Lauren Gailey
Does The Press Get Special Rights?, Lauren Gailey
Texas A&M Law Review
The press occupies a place in our system of government so unique and important that it’s often referred to as the “Fourth Estate.” The press is charged with ensuring that voters have the information they need to elect their leaders, shedding a sanitizing light on the inner workings of the government, and acting as a counterweight to its enormous power. In recognition of these functions—and, presumably, to enable and promote them—the architects of the Bill of Rights permanently enshrined the press in its own clause of the First Amendment.
Yet two centuries later, scholars have generally accepted that the press …
Inclusive Prosperity, Deanna S. Newton
Inclusive Prosperity, Deanna S. Newton
Texas A&M Law Review
Gentrification affects almost every American city to varying degrees, involving different parties with different interests. While positive changes are associated with gentrification, low-income individuals are often displaced from their communities due to increased rent costs and property values. Throughout our nation’s history, the federal government has offered tax incentives to those who invest in low-income areas that have historically suffered disinvestment. These tax incentives encourage investment by providing tax benefits and minimal investment constraints. However, because investors are not required to tailor their investments to meet the needs of communities, the unintended consequence of these programs is that residents do …
Implications For "Adjacent" Waterbodies After Sackett V. Epa, John C. Colson
Implications For "Adjacent" Waterbodies After Sackett V. Epa, John C. Colson
Texas A&M Law Review
The Supreme Court’s recent ruling in Sackett v. EPA has rolled back Clean Water Act (“CWA”) protections for many wetlands on private property. Justice Kavanaugh’s little-commented-on concurrence identifies a class of waterbodies now unprotected by the CWA that nonetheless serves vital roles in flood control, pollution management, and habitat conservation. These waterbodies are those that lack a continuous surface connection (the majority’s test) to navigable waterways but are nonetheless “adjacent” to them in that they are separated by a single barrier. Including borrow pits and swamps held behind dikes, as well as the thousands of oxbow lakes near America’s rivers, …
Bog-Ged Down By Sackett: Strategies For Wetland Protection In Texas, Caleb Cook
Bog-Ged Down By Sackett: Strategies For Wetland Protection In Texas, Caleb Cook
Texas A&M Law Review
The Clean Water Act (“CWA”) has been one of the most powerful tools for protecting the nation’s waterways since it was first passed in 1972. However, there has long been ambiguity over the scope of the authority it grants for the regulation of wetlands. In May 2023, the Supreme Court resolved this question in Sackett v. Environmental Protection Agency. The effect of Sackett will be to remove significant amounts of previously regulated wetlands from federal jurisdiction. Federal legislative responses are unlikely, and while there are federal programs that can help temporarily fill the gap and bring some wetlands back …
Restoring Public Trust In Elections: An Empirical Study Of How Campaign Finance Reform Can Restore Public Trust In Elections, Matthew D. Kim
Restoring Public Trust In Elections: An Empirical Study Of How Campaign Finance Reform Can Restore Public Trust In Elections, Matthew D. Kim
Texas A&M Law Review
The American public has become deeply distrustful of elections. This distrust is partly due to Supreme Court decisions curtailing campaign finance restrictions, on First Amendment grounds, to spending that creates an appearance of quid pro quo corruption. The Court’s reasoning assumes that, although the government has an interest in protecting the public’s trust in elections, campaign spending does not pose a threat to the public’s trust absent the appearance of quid pro quo corruption. However, it is unclear if campaign spending undermines the public’s trust in elections through means other than the appearance of quid pro quo corruption. If it …
Childhood Trauma Affects Romantic Relationships In Adulthood, Rhianna Vranka
Childhood Trauma Affects Romantic Relationships In Adulthood, Rhianna Vranka
D.U.Quark
Childhood trauma is when a child experiences sexual, emotional, or physical abuse or neglect. Trauma’s causes aren’t limited to just those factors and can result from a variety of experiences. Childhood trauma makes children more vulnerable to developing issues in adulthood because they are at a critical point in their development. There is insignificant knowledge on why childhood trauma affects romantic relationships in adulthood. Knowledge of warning signs and accurate diagnosis is essential to prevent violence stemming from the psychological effects exhibited by those with childhood trauma in relationships. More research is required to understand how to treat the psychological …
