Design And Optimization Of Lattice-Integrated Plif Cages Using Additive Manufacturing And Finite Element Modeling, Olivia Draughn Apr 2025

Design And Optimization Of Lattice-Integrated Plif Cages Using Additive Manufacturing And Finite Element Modeling, Olivia Draughn

Honors Theses

The customization, characterization, and development of biomedical implants through additive manufacturing (AM) and finite element methods (FEM) becomes imperative to the success of surgical operations and long-term patient satisfaction. To combat stiffness mismatches and prevent stress shielding between implant and bone tissue, lattice structures can be implemented within bone implant design to reduce the effective Young’s modulus (EYM) of the implant and to promote osteointegration within bone tissue. Lattice structures are highly customizable, three dimensionally repeated patterned unit cells that can be manipulated to mimic the porous nature of bone tissues to increase implant-bone interface longevity. The study presents the …

Hypergraph Search For Real-Time Multi-Robot Task Allocation In A Smart Factory, Zixiang Nie, Kwang-Cheng Chen

USF Patents

Task assignment for multi-robot systems (MRSs) in a smart factory (Industry 4.0) is described. Aspects are directed to a hypergraph based MRS and production model facilitating the cooperation among robots and serving frequent reconfiguration desired in Industry 4.0. Aspects are directed to a time complexity friendly search algorithm for real-time application using a hypergraph model to get task assignment(s). Parameters are provided for a tradeoff between solution optimality and time complexity. In an implementation, an example system can include a MRS including robots, wherein the MRS is configured to perform a manufacturing task, and a computing device configure to perform …

Publicly Verifiable And Resilient Symmetric Authentication And Privacy Systems And Related Methods, Attila Altay Yavuz

USF Patents

A method for publicly verifiable symmetric cryptography is disclosed. The method includes: obtaining an initial encrypted key and a homomorphic public key; obtaining a first message and an initial signature; calculating an initial hashed value of the first message; setting a cryptographic function of the initial hashed value of the first message and an initial private key; generating an evaluated value based on the cryptographic function, the homomorphic public key, the initial encrypted key, and the initial hashed value of the first message; and transmitting, at the verifier, a verification result based on a hashed value of the initial signature …

Attitudes On Solitary Confinement, Emily Dewey Apr 2025

Attitudes On Solitary Confinement, Emily Dewey

Undergraduate Theses

Solitary confinement is widespread and recognized as harmful in society. However, it is not as researched as other controversial issues, including immigration, gun control, abortion, etc. Due to this, it is hard to gauge how supportive the public is or isn't of related practices. In a general sense, public support has been established by legislators crafting policy, and by extension United States Supreme Court decision making. This is particularly crucial in discussions on interpretations of the 8th Amendment/ cruel and unusual punishment. Existing case law, such as Peoples V. Fischer, found that solitary confinement was arbitrary and needed reform, including …

Quality Improvement Project Enhancing Mental Health Clinic Practices: Increasing Healthcare Professionals' Knowledge And Self-Assurance In Opioid Abuse Screening Tools In Healthcare Professionals Treating Adolescents, Festus Obonna Apr 2025

Quality Improvement Project Enhancing Mental Health Clinic Practices: Increasing Healthcare Professionals' Knowledge And Self-Assurance In Opioid Abuse Screening Tools In Healthcare Professionals Treating Adolescents, Festus Obonna

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects

This study aimed to address the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner’s unfamiliarity and inadequate confidence in utilizing the CAGE-AID screening tool in detecting opioid use in adolescents undergoing treatment at a psychiatric mental health clinic. The goal was to find out how structured training affected providers' understanding of and confidence in using the screening tool. Eight psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners, participated in a quasi-experimental pre- and post-intervention design. Descriptive statistics, paired t-tests, and Cronbach's alpha reliability analysis were used to look at the data. There was a significant improvement in providers' self-reported familiarity, confidence, and efficacy in using the …

Trenching And Compost Sustain Grain Yield Increases Over Nine Years On Deep Sands But At A Cost, David J.M. Hall, Tom J. Edwards

Grain and Other Field Crops Research Articles

Context. Crops grown on deep sands on the south coast of WA are limited by soil physical and chemical properties including compaction and poor nutrition. Aims. Crops grown on deep sands on the south coast of Western Australia are limited by soil physical and chemical properties including compaction and poor nutrition. Our aim was to determine what effects deep-placed organic amendments have on soil properties and crop production in a deep sand and whether such amendments are profitable. Methods. A long-term field trial was conducted over nine years (2015–2023) to investigate soil amendments including lime (0 and …

The Effect Of Group Racial Make-Up And Instructions On White Students' Agreement With Social And Academic Norms During Race Talk, Camryn O'Conner Apr 2025

The Effect Of Group Racial Make-Up And Instructions On White Students' Agreement With Social And Academic Norms During Race Talk, Camryn O'Conner

Student Theses and Dissertations

Discussions surrounding racism and Whiteness, although challenging are indispensable for gaining insights into the intricacies of today’s racial dynamics (Maxwell & Chesler, 2022). The literature, particularly the works of Sue (2013), delineates specific academic and social norms prevalent in classroom settings, such as the Academic, Politeness, and Color-Blind Protocols, each playing a distinct role in shaping conversations about race. In the current study, we explored two primary factors that could impact White college students’ alignment with the Academic, Color-Blind, and Politeness Protocols: the racial composition of the hypothetical conversation group and the presence, or absence, of instruction during the conversation. …

Schwartz Family Yerusha Llc V. Schwartz Apr 2025

Schwartz Family Yerusha Llc V. Schwartz

All Decisions

Handwritten opinion. In this holdover proceeding, tenant moved to dismiss for lack of standing due to landlord’s failure to comply with LLC Law § 206, which mandates publication of the LLC’s formation. The court held that the failure to publish, as required, is a noncurable defect and deprives the LLC of the ability to maintain a proceeding in New York courts. Relying on binding precedent, (Small Step Day Care, LLC v. Broadway Bushwick Bldrs., L.P., 137 A.D.3d 102 2nd Dept 2016) the court found this defect to be fatal to the landlord's case and granted the tenant’s motion to dismiss. …

Combinatorial Rigidity And Flexibility Of Simplicial 2-Complexes With Few Vertices, Serge A. Lawrence, Abdulkarim M. Magomedov, Olga I. Chelyapina, Valentina M. Rudenko Apr 2025

Combinatorial Rigidity And Flexibility Of Simplicial 2-Complexes With Few Vertices, Serge A. Lawrence, Abdulkarim M. Magomedov, Olga I. Chelyapina, Valentina M. Rudenko

Theory & Applications of Graphs

We study the problem of reconstruction of a simplicial 2-complex from its 1- skeleton together with the prescribed quantities of 2-simplices at each 1-simplex, under the restriction that these quantities are bounded above by 2. It is a known fact that a 2-complex is uniquely reconstructible, or “combinatorially rigid”, if it has 5 or fewer vertices. In this paper “combinatorially flexible” 2-complexes (that is, non-uniquely reconstructible from their 1-skeletons) with 6 vertices are characterized in terms of necessary 2-subcomplexes.
