PURPOSE This quality improvement (QI) initiative aimed to reduce 30-day psychiatric readmission rates among adults experiencing homelessness by 10% over a 3-month period. Secondary goals included a 15% improvement in medication adherence and completion of follow-up visits.

BACKGROUND Individuals experiencing homelessness and mental illness face higher risks of psychiatric decompensation and hospital readmission. At Houston Behavioral Hospital, 13.34% of psychiatric readmissions involved unhoused individuals, highlighting limitations in standard discharge planning.

Accurate measurement of PM_2.5 composition is of global importance. Evaporation-induced mass loss introduces potential bias in filter-based PM_2.5 measurements, with ammonium nitrate volatilization from Teflon filters being a major contributor to negative mass artifacts. Previous studies have demonstrated that using an acid gas denuder in combination with nylon filters can help recover the nitrate mass. This study evaluates design modifications to the AirPhoton sampling station setup within the globally distributed Surface Particulate Matter Network (SPARTAN) incorporating an additional acid gas denuder upstream and a nylon filter downstream of the existing Teflon filter.

Parental communication about body weight and shape is associated with offspring’s eating behaviors and body image. However, predictors of parental weight/shape communication are less known. The present study explored whether direct (i.e., comments to the child about their weight and encouragement to diet) and indirect (i.e., modeling of the importance of body weight/shape via parent’s own dieting and comments about their own weight) communication about weight, shape, and eating from parents in childhood predicted women’s direct and indirect communication about weight/shape to their own child in adulthood. Many college students enter postsecondary education underprepared for college-level mathematics, posing challenges for course completion and degree attainment. In response, a local community college system implemented a mainstreaming initiative that places underprepared students directly into college-level statistics courses with supplemental instruction (SI). This basic qualitative study explored students’ perceptions of the role of SI and instructor engagement in supporting their success in a college-level statistics course. Emerging adults (ages 18-26) with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) are especially vulnerable to diabetes management challenges when taking on increased disease responsibility during this critical period of development. They may experience higher cognitive and psychological demands compared to peers. The study examined whether having T1DM moderated the association between executive functioning (EF) and mental health symptoms (i.e., depression, anxiety, stress, and disordered eating) in emerging adults. Peptide vaccines are based on small peptide segments that contain antigenic epitopes recognizable by immune cells. Unlike traditional vaccines, they include only specific antigenic epitopes rather than entire pathogens or proteins. They are recognized, internalized, processed, and presented by antigen-presenting cells, such as dendritic cells, and subsequently presented to T cells, triggering an immune response. Peptide-based vaccines, an innovative regimen of cancer immunotherapy, have shown the potential to elicit target-specific anti-tumor immune responses, however their therapeutic efficacy is often diminished by their poor stability, rapid clearance from circulation, low immunogenicity, individual variability, and immune escape. To better constrain the formation and evolution of the lunar crust, this dissertation addresses two key aspects of lunar crustal formation: the primary feldspathic crust, formed during solidification of an ancient lunar magma ocean (LMO), and non-mare silicic volcanic constructs, which represent either secondary or tertiary crustal formation processes. Specifically, we performed photometry on Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera (LROC) Narrow Angle Camera (NAC) images to determine the single-scattering albedo (SSA) of surface features that expose these two non-mare crustal rock types. Two additives, rosemary oil and a commercial herbal product (HP; AROTEC-G) containing garlic essential oil, carvacrol and thymol were investigated for their potential to reduce the parasitic burden in yellowtail kingfish (YTK; Seriola lalandi) infected with Zeuxapta seriolae. Naturally infected fish were fed diets supplemented with either 2.5 mL.kg−1 rosemary oil or two concentrations of HP (5 and 10 g.kg−1) for 20 days. At 10 and 20 days, the effect of the diets on parasite abundance was evaluated. Feed intake and growth were similar across treatments (p > 0.05). By day 10, both rosemary oil and HP significantly …

This paper investigates real earnings management (REM) practices in public non-financial companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange (WSE) from 2014 to 2023, focusing on sectoral differences and the influence of market competition. REM, defined as deviations from normal business operations aimed at manipulating reported earnings, can distort financial information and harm long-term firm value. INTRODUCTION: While smoking is the leading cause of lung and bronchus cancer (LBC), additional exposures have been implicated and may explain the rise in LBC among never-smokers. To better understand the spatial distribution of LBC incidence and associated risk factors, this study aims to identify geographic areas with significantly elevated incidence rates in Pennsylvania and investigate the potential underlying risk factors.

Background: Biological age can be quantified by composite proteomic scores, called proteomics-based aging clocks (PACs). We investigated whether a discrepancy between chronological and biological age in midlife and late-life is associated with cognition and dementia risk.

Methods: We used two longitudinal population-based studies: the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) Study and the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA). In 2020, a high-intensity wildfire burned over 35,000 ha in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California, including over 1700 ha of old-growth coast redwood forest. This event created a unique opportunity to evaluate post-fire succession. We compared vegetation recovery in high versus low/moderate severity burned areas using data collected one year and four years following the fire. Random plot sampling was conducted at Big Basin Redwoods State Park to assess the regeneration of trees, shrubs, and herbaceous species. This study seeks to investigate historical drinking water contamination events that reported by news media to find the key determinants of their outcomes, including the duration and economic cost, and to quantitatively describe the characteristics of past contamination events. ProQuest Global Newsstream and Regional Business News were used to identify an initial list of events and supplemented by additional search on specific information including the response actions, economic cost, and more. These events were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and regression modeling. However, the empirical work investigating this question has primarily been conducted in insects that have very short life spans and often live for just a single mating season. The incidence of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, a significant risk factor for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), is on the rise, highlighting the urgent need for improved diagnostic biomarkers. To date, no systematic analysis has evaluated international studies using liquid samples to assess the utilization of RNA species as biomarkers for HCC. Shared Augmented Reality (Shared AR) is an emerging technology that enables multiple users to interact synchronously within a collocated AR environment. Yet, there is limited research on the group interactions and dynamics in Shared AR, particularly in the context of gaming. To address this gap, we investigate Shared AR group interactions using a phone-based Shared AR mobile game called Urban Legends. Through in-situ observations, focus groups, and one-on-one interviews with 22 participants, we examine how users collaborate and communicate within the game.
