Why Israel Failed To Anticipate The October 7 Attack: A Postmortem Analysis, Emily Helgeson

This project conducts an autopsy of Israel’s failure to anticipate Hamas’s surprise attack on October 7, 2023. Existing scholarship identifies multiple contributing factors for this intelligence failure, including flawed strategic assumptions (conceptzia), political dysfunction, organizational sexism, and overreliance on surveillance technology. While all these factors may have contributed to the failure, most studies either examine the causal impact of a single factor in isolation or treat multiple factors together as equally impactful. Abstract: In view of the problems of incomplete elements and missing architecture in the research of target characteristics of target missiles, this paper introduced the panoramic view, operational view, and capability view models in the DoDAF from the perspective of system engineering. Artificial intelligence (AI) is integrating rapidly into daily practice, including in the national security sector. AI has the potential to improve bureaucratic efficiency, enhance military intelligence and threat assessment, and develop autonomous vehicles and weapons, making it a revolutionary tool in national security. Modern cybersecurity assumes that systems fail when they are breached. This paper challenges that assumption. A new class of threats is emerging one that does not attack systems directly, but instead targets what systems believe to be true. These “perception-layer attacks” operate without intrusion, without malware, and without triggering alarms, yet they can produce outcomes as impactful as traditional cyberattacks. This paper examines how advanced AI systems, by prioritizing pattern recognition and probabilistic reasoning, can be guided toward misleading yet internally consistent conclusions.

Unlike traditional cyber threats that target system vulnerabilities, this work explores how intelligent systems themselves become instruments of influence. In 1778, the newly independent government of South Carolina broke with more than a century of precedent and disestablished the Church of England by enacting Article XXXVIII of its State Constitution. This thesis weaves together the interconnected stories of Patriots such as William Tennent, Christopher Gadsden, Charles Cotesworth Pinckney, Oliver Hart, Richard Furman, and William Henry Drayton, demonstrating how they converged on disestablishment. While the historiography has focused on one or another religious or political group, this thesis asserts that an array of South Carolinians from across the political spectrum coalesced around disestablishment as a pragmatic solution to a variety …

This thesis examines how United States Army Special Forces veterans of the Global War on Terror narrate the identity of the "Quiet Professional" across training, deployment, and post-service life. Drawing on oral history interviews with four retired Green Berets, as well as archival and material culture analysis, the study approaches Special Forces as a distinctive military institution shaped by narrative, institutional formation, and war. It argues that Special Forces ethos is not a fixed warrior identity, but a lived and contested achievement produced through rites of passage, embodied hardship, informal legitimacy, and collective memory. Since the start of his second term, President Trump has issued executive orders at an extraordinary pace, using them to advance a broader ideological agenda across the administrative state. While scholarly attention has largely focused on the most sweeping of these directives, less prominent orders raise similar concerns about the reach of presidential power. This Note examines one such order: Executive Order 14,172, which directs the renaming of the Gulf of Mexico and Denali and expands presidential influence over the U.S. Board on Geographic Names (BGN).

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a major public health concern associated with long-term disability and high healthcare utilization. Evidence guiding post-acute rehabilitation for medically complex TBI populations remains limited, particularly in long-term acute care hospital (LTACH) settings serving medically unstable patients. This study examined clinical and system-level factors associated with functional rehabilitation outcomes among adults with moderate-to-severe TBI in LTACHs. Guided by the Socioecological Model, recovery was conceptualized as interactions across individual, clinical, and organizational levels.
