The purpose of this study was to determine whether anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture and reconstruction would lead to any significant changes in subchondral bone at the proximal tibia within 1 to 5 years post-surgical repair. Fifteen individuals (3 male, 12 female), aged 18 to 29 years old, who had sustained an ACL rupture and subsequent repair within the last 5 years were recruited for this study. An age and sexmatched control was recruited to match each participant. Subchondral volumetric bone mineral density (vBMD) of the proximal tibia was measured using peripheral quantitative computed tomography (pQCT). Additionally, jump force and …

Infectious respiratory disease has long been identified as the cause of bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis) historical declines and extirpations, and Mycoplasma ovipneumoniae (Movi) is the primary pathogen inducing disease and mortality. Population-level effects of pneumonia events range from mild to extirpation. Variable individual response to pathogen exposure emerges from dynamic interactions between competing evolutionary processes within the host and pathogen. Understanding impacts of this evolutionary warfare is essential to assessing long-term impacts of pathogen invasion and developing appropriate countermeasures to protect population health. Sulfur mustard is a highly toxic and dangerous vesicant that has been utilized as a chemical warfare agent (CWA) since World War I. Despite its extensive history, an effective antidote to sulfur mustard exposure still does not exist. With detectable levels of unreacted sulfur mustard lasting days after initial contact, a window of opportunity exists to administer a “scavenger” to affected individual immediately and in the days following exposure in hopes of reducing harm by neutralizing unreacted sulfur mustard. More than two thousand years ago, Confucius transformed and perfected an institution for governing Chinese people, which has been religiously replicated by subsequent dynasties. Within the Confucian institution, the King, at the pinnacle of the pyramid, held absolute authority; regional lords were loyal to the King; and commoners were submissive to the privileged. Confucius held that peace and order could only be achieved when people acted according to their hierarchical worth assigned by the ruler. This dissertation examines landscape representation in English novels, memoirs, manifestos, and poetry between 1890 and 1939 responding to World War I and the larger dynamics of imperialism of which it is a part. Analyzing how such works reflect and reshape dominant environmental perception during the early twentieth century’s marked acceleration of mass warfare and ecological change, it reads for the way images of mud, stone, land, and soil—collected under the term base matters—express the entanglement of environmental and national structures of feeling ranging from fear to dissociation. This research paper is a work-in-progress report on instances of steganography that were identified on websites on the Internet including some from the DarkWeb using the application of new methods of deep learning algorithms. Why do some states support rebel groups? This area of study has garnered more attention in the aftermath of the Cold War, as states continue to leverage proxy groups against one another. To understand the causes and consequences of state support, this dissertation builds on existing work in the state sponsorship, terrorism, and interstate rivalry literature.
