This paper examines whether or not international trade can be depended on to prevent power transition wars, with a focus on the current transition between the US and China. The literature on power transitions and on trade’s impact on international wars is reviewed, and a method established for determining whether a neoliberal or neorealist understanding of the impact of trade is more appropriate in the current transition. This method employs a model for predicting states’ trade policies to see whether its predictions are accurate both before and after the rise of complex economic interdependence in the 1970s. This report contains a comprehensive overview of the Team 09: 5-Axis 3D Printer Honors Capstone project. This project was presented by the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) of Newport, Rhode Island. Jim Leblanc from NUWC originally defined the problem as the design, building, and demonstration of a 3D printer with 5 degrees of freedom that can print complex geometry with reduced material support. Typical 3D printers use 3 axes of motion to position an extruder to print parts layer by layer. In post-conflict transitions, disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration have played a crucial role in the treatment of former combatants and the advancement of peacebuilding. This peacebuilding process, known as DDR, has experienced successes and failures throughout its implementation across the globe. Specifically, as conflict erupted across many nations in Central and Eastern Africa, the disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration programs that were implemented during different nations’ peacebuilding transition towards at the turn of the twenty first century experienced variations among their success at reducing or halting conflict. Team 10, the Sea Raccoon, is responsible for developing a methodology for the release of several deployables from an underwater host vehicle. The sponsor for this project is the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, NUWC. The project demanded a methodology for launching a deployable from an underwater host vehicle. The deployables are approximated generally as cylinders due to the secret nature of the actual payload.

The 1980s and 1990s marked the beginning of the end of Apartheid in South Africa but before the first fully democratic election in 1994, the KwaZulu-Natal region was being torn apart by a low level civil war. This conflict was not the black majority fighting against white minority, but part of so-called black on black violence. One side was the African National Congress (ANC) and the United Democratic Front (UDF) and on the other was Inkatha, secretly backed by the Apartheid state. Genes are functional cell segments of DNA within an organism, as well as basic physical units of biological inheritance, which have consequences for human dignity and public interest. Genes and genetic material (DNA strands of nucleotides, genetically altered plants and animals e.g., see Appendix B) are patentable. In the US and around the globe, governments grant genetic patents for new, non-obvious, and useful gene inventions. Devoted to redefining western capitalist epistemologies through recognition and acceptance of Indigenous wisdom in modern sociopolitical structures, I use this paper to expose theoretical and material flaws in western neoliberal capitalism as an implicitly colonial knowledge system incapable of sufficiently addressing the climate crisis. Here, colonialism is broadly understood as ideological and/or material practices of exploitation and domination within social, cultural, economic, and ecological frameworks. Colonialism, in this paper, is further characterized by having particular philosophical commitments to notions of binarism, individualism, and consumerism which reveal capitalism’s structure and function as neocolonial by nature. Our group was tasked by the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC), to design a system in which multiple small diameter payloads can be deployed from a larger diameter cylinder. These payloads consist of sonobuoys and other projectiles, which will be launched rapidly within the larger cylinder. NUWC wants to create a system that is able to have the capability to deploy multiple projectiles out of a single, un-altered torpedo tube.

One text in particular, the first chapter of the Book of Moses, claims that its very words would be lost and later restored to the believing. As this bold claim has not yet been verified by the discovery of an ancient copy of this text, clues to the antiquity of this document will need to be discovered within the text itself. This thesis examines the effect anti-religious policies had on belief and practice in Russia during the Soviet period by examining that era and Post-Soviet Russia. Russian identity and governance have historically been tightly interconnected with the Russian Orthodox tradition, dating back to the baptism of Vladimir I in 988. Despite the deeply rooted tradition, Lenin implemented policies of repression to limit the role of religion in civil society. Throughout the Soviet period the state enforced many anti-religious policies that ranged in intensity. This undergraduate thesis explores the themes of death and morality in both the fictional and nonfictional works of the 19th century Russian novelist Count Leo Tolstoy. The first chapter contains an analysis of the author’s personal and religious beliefs concerning death and examines his role of author as educator. The second chapter examines death within several of Tolstoy’s short works and explores the moral implications of their deaths for Tolstoy’s readership, keeping in mind the conclusions of the part first.
