The relationship between elitism and corruption in the United States has become problematic for the prosperity of our democracy. Throughout United States history, this relationship has continually evolved and allowed for elites to be able to pursue personal interests and abuse their positions. The pursuit of corrupt actions to achieve personal gain results in a widening gap between the elites and the masses. Over the past two decades, scholarly research on conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) has steadily grown. Despite this, gaps remain. Significantly, while there is a strong foundation of research on female victims of CRSV, research on male victims is growing but still lags behind. In the Bosnian context, women have been widely recognised as victims of genocidal sexual violence during the 1992 to 1995 war, while male victims of sexual violence often fall under the category of torture or crimes against humanity. This is despite a large amount of evidence indicating that men were victims of sexual violence in the conflict. …

This research explores the effects of the use of children in the Sierra Leonean civil war. Specifically, I will be analyzing how the use of children in warfare in Sierra Leone from 1995-2000 has been used as a tool of genocide. Genocide is a heavily researched topic with many cases; however, the Sierra Leonean civil war has not been classified as a genocide of any category. The Rondo Days Festival, inaugurated in 1983, is a reunion of the Black community of the Twin Cities. It memorializes and mourns a neighborhood gone, a neighborhood where residents “learned to fill the gaps in American history (Fairbanks 1999, 141), learned about the contributions and tribulations of their people. The celebration remembers when the creation of I-94 meant the destruction of a vibrant neighborhood, moving hundreds of families from a community of truly gracious homes to “substandard housing with bad wiring” (Baker 1994). Abstract: Geo-registration technology is a key technology for the combination of augmented reality and geographic information systems, and its registration accuracy has a significant impact on the availability of ARGIS. Aiming at this application, the basic concepts and principles of augmented reality geo-registration technology are analyzed, and the method for quantitative evaluation of geo-registration accuracy is proposed. Combined with the pre-acquired high-precision geographic information data, a variety of outdoor geo-registration experiments are carried out by using the different hardware devices, and the quantitative accuracy of different geo-registration methods is evaluated. Current archaeological literature calls for archaeology to become increasingly relevant in the modern world. Involvement in archaeological research can enhance the relevancy of archaeology for participants of public archaeology projects by strengthening personal connections with heritage and history. To investigate the impact of direct involvement in archaeological research on residents in Vancouver, Washington, I recruited members of two neighborhoods associated with Fort Vancouver National Historic Site to participate in the archaeological search for material remains of the first (1825-1829) Fort Vancouver. Andrew Dickson White And America’S Unfinished (French) Revolution, Gregory S. Brown

History Faculty Research

Andrew Dickson White is not considered a canonical author in the French Revolution's historiography, but rather is known as the founding president of both Cornell University and the American Historical Association (AHA). His best-known published historical writings, when referenced at all, are often derided. Yet in his intellectually formative years, as an earnest abolitionist and amibtious Republican, eager to enter the arena of American political life and anticipating what he would later call "the great revolution" of the Civil War, White made the topic his central academic pursuit - and effectively invented a distinctly American tradition of historiography.
