Impacts Of Climate Variability On Hydrological Response And Water Resources: Case Of Little Ruaha Catchment -Tanzania Using Ground And Chirps Data, Florence H. Mahay, Patrick C. Valimba, Madaka H. Tumbo, Fides J. Izdori, Leonard Maketa
Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)
The Little Ruaha River catchment in Tanzania is increasingly affected by climate variability, with implications for agriculture, hydropower, and water supply. This study evaluates the effects of climate variability on rainfall and streamflow and assesses the usefulness of satellite-based rainfall data for hydrological modeling. Thirty-year records (1991–2020) of rain gauge and river flow data were analyzed using the Mann–Kendall test, and the HBV rainfall–runoff model was run with both gauge and CHIRPS satellite rainfall inputs. Annual rainfall exhibited no significant trends at most stations (p > 0.05), except for a notable decline at one eastern site. Seasonal rainfall and streamflow showed …

Numerical Simulation Of Corner Reinforced Concrete Column-Beam Joint With Differential Concrete Grades And Steel Fibres Under Monotonic Loading, Daudi S. Augustino, Emmanuel Safari Leo
Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)
Structural elements are composed of joints that are essential for force transfer. In particular, for concrete structures, the column-beam joint is an integral section that requires insight due to the traditional use of different concrete grades, forming a strong-column-weak-beam (SCWB) system. A numerical model of the joint was developed in Abaqus to explore the axial load performance and damage tolerance of corner column-beam joints with different concrete grades under monotonic static loading. A concrete-damaged plasticity model (CDPM) was used to model the damage behaviour of concrete, utilising the available strain-stress models in literature and EuroCode 2. Results show that concrete …

The Interplay Of Morphology, Syntax, And Semantics In Kuria Verb Extensions Within The Mara Region, Mary Charwi
Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences
Verb extension morphological affixes that significantly alter verb meaning are a defining characteristic of Bantu languages. This paper investigates the morphosyntactic behaviour, semantic implications, and functional roles of extensions within Kuria, a Bantu language of Tanzania. The study adopts Hyman’s morphocentric approach, specifically the CARP template (Causative-Applicative-Reciprocal-Passive), as its foundational framework to test whether Kuria adheres to this pan-Bantu default ordering. The data were collected in Tarime District (2014-2015) using a mixed methods approach, comprising questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, and video stimuli with 13 rural and urban speakers, and text analysis (the Kuria Bible). Through rigorous morphosyntactic parsing, the analysis reveals …
The Syntax And Semantics Of Reciprocal Constructions In Chibarwe: A Lexical Mapping Account, Tendai Chirimaunga
The Syntax And Semantics Of Reciprocal Constructions In Chibarwe: A Lexical Mapping Account, Tendai Chirimaunga
Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences
Bantu languages have a robust structure, which is usually stated to be agglutinative, accommodates affixations of a wide range of morphemes both as prefixes (to the left of the root), as well suffixes (to the right of the root) before placing the terminal vowel. In their verbal morphology, the reciprocal is one of the many derivational affixes that have, however, not gained similar prominence as the study of the applicative and the causative construction. The thrust of this study is to investigate the syntax and semantics of reciprocal constructions in ChiBarwe, a marginalised cross-border language spoken in Zimbabwe and Mozambique. …

Analysing The Impact Of Bi-Directional Application Of Iliceto Shield Wire Scheme For Rural Electrification In Tanzania: A Chalinze-Hale Transmission Line Case Study, Santos Kihwele, Prisca Paul
Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)
Clean energy accessibility including electricity remains a major challenge in Tanzanian villages despite the many efforts made by its government. The primary obstacle is that these villages are located more than 100 kilometres away from high-voltage to medium-voltage (HV/MV) transformer stations. Therefore, electrifying these villages by conventional method is financially not feasible. One of the low-cost rural electrification techniques that can be used to solve the issue is the "Iliceto Shield Wire Scheme" (ISWS) technology, In Tanzania, the application of ISWS technology seems to be very promising. However, the technology can be integrated with locally available renewable energy sources ( …
