Gestating And Co-Becoming With Ettingerian Maxtrixial Pedagogy, Barbara Bickel

This article seeks to infuse and enrich the spheres of Arts and Education through a nascent introduction of Ettingerian Matrixial Pedagogy. To articulate this, I weave together the practices of Gestare Art Collective, which we describe as “matrixial infused education,” the “placental thinking” of Nané Jordan with my own thinking, art making and teaching. This article unfolds through interlacing theory and reflections on teachings found within art practices of Ma Poses, Womb Walking, Nap-Ins, and Spontaneous Creation-Making, along with examples of pedagogical artworkings: Metramorphosis and Muted Colours of Grief. This paper is meant to scaffold an imaginary space for what is currently an almost impossible museum. It would reside on a border between Gaza and Israel. Artists and participants would be able to enter from both sides of the border into a circular and cavernous space to make, share and experience art together. She-Hero: A Memoir of the Divine Feminine within a Creation-Centred Paradigm explores Ettinger’s matrixial borderspaces through an inter-woven theoretical | artistic | poetic métissage. An example of creation-centred research, this memoir is likened to Ettinger’s concept of metramorphosis—an active restoration of matrixial knowledge(s) and knowing. Embodying a creation-centred curriculum and pedagogy, She-Hero privileges non-dominant epistemologies to attend to the disruption of historical patterns of the hero—inviting readers to submerge and emerge in co-poesis within an intimate and aesthetic kaleidoscopic space of feminine affect and agency.

The matrixial sphere, as put forth by artist and psychoanalyst Bracha L. Ettinger, is a shared and transsubjective space that is beneath the conscious, under the touchable and perceptible; it is a space where we encounter ourselves and one another in shared trauma, healing, art making, and the lived experience overall. This co-authored essay explores how a shared matrixial space and the matrixial gaze, which is not always visual, have been experienced through the square boxes of ZOOM as part of a collaborative, long-distance art exchange project. As an artist diagnosed with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD, the aim of my research is to artistically explore neurodivergent experiences using gravity-assisted space flight as a visual metaphor for episodic memory and the pivot between correlated ideas. “Orbit of Attention” is a short animated film that visualizes interconnected mental processes through the use of a character-driven narrative. The creative choice of depicting ideas as planets is inspired by the gravity-assisted flight path of the Voyagers’ grand tour of the solar system. In visualizing unconventional thought processes, “orbital thinking” was used to model episodic memory. As a research project, this film …

In addition to this, I completed my capstone by writing an additional version of my program with added program notes, elaborative information, and translations of pieces that are not in English. This program highlights composers Henry Purcell, Franz Schubert, Amy Beach, Leonard Bernstein, Manuel De Falla, Léo Delibes, and Jacques Offenbach. This paper analyzes the May Day festival at DePauw University as a lens through which to understand the social and cultural expectations for young women in the 20th century. By examining the festival's history, activities, and the roles of various student organizations, the study explores how broader historical events such as wars and economic changes, as well as societal ideals influenced the festival's evolution. BACKGROUND: Athleticism and physical fitness are often not the first characteristics one identifies when visualizing someone in musical theater. Watching just one performance can make it clear that dancing, acting, running, all while singing and keeping near perfect pitch requires a theater actor to be extremely fit. As well as fitness, nutrition considerations and injury prevention should also be considered due to the high physiological demand placed on these performers. Minimal research has been conducted regarding the fitness and nutritional habits of musical theater performers. This thesis consists of an applied theatre project that was performed by international youth in Louisville, Kentucky. Applied theatre has been found to be a creative strategy for working with underprivileged groups and has been shown to possess many benefits including giving a voice to marginalized communities, highlighting the positive qualities as well as issues faced by vulnerable groups, empowering youth, creating a sense of community, increasing the self-confidence of individuals and changing their view of self-worth. This essay uses Blimling and Whitt’s (1999) Principles of Good Practice to identify living- learning communities (LLCs) as a current best practice in student affairs. The authors draw examples from four institutions in Colorado and California, including the University of Colorado at Boulder, Colorado College, the University of California Santa Cruz, and Santa Clara Univer- sity. Research is used to highlight the benefits of living-learning communities. The essay concludes by summarizing common themes among living- learning communities, as well as differences and trends within these institutions. In the marketplace of ideas, the Theatre Arts employ narrative stories and eye-catching visual art pieces draw listeners and viewers in a way that is unmatched by other methods. Art not only reflects the society from which it was created, it also acts as a projection of the creator’s ideal world. Theatre, being both a sonic and visual medium also has the unique advantage of speaking directly to a captive audience that are physically in the same room as the characters onstage, making those connections significantly more personal. Language, Literacy, and Sociocultural Studies ETDs

This study investigated the way in which emergent bilingual students utilize their linguistic repertoire in order to achieve new learning. Previous research has suggested that bilingual students learn differently than their monolingual counterparts due to their varying linguistic repertoires. Research has also suggested that translanguaging and culturally relevant teaching are valuable frameworks to adopt in the classroom, as they result in a better academic experience for all students.

Randomized Clinical Trial To Compare Cryopreserved And Lyopreserved Umbilical Cord Tissue To Treat Complex Diabetic Foot Wounds, Lawrence A. Lavery, Mehmet A. Suludere, Matthew J. Johnson, Amanda Killeen, Katherine M. Raspovic, Peter A. Crisologo, Arthur Tarricone

To compare the incidence of infection, wound closure and time to wound closure in patients treated with cryopreserved (CPUT) and lyopreserved umbilical tissue (LPUT) in complex diabetic surgical wounds. This single-blinded 12-week randomized clinical trial compared cryopreserved and lyopreserved amniotic cord tissue to treat complex diabetic foot wounds. LPUT or CRAT was applied at baseline and again after four weeks. We enrolled subjects with UT2A-D and 3A-D wounds (depth to tendon, muscle, or bone with infection and/or PAD) and excluded subjects with ABI < 0.5 or TBI < 0.3, untreated osteomyelitis, and autoimmune diseases. We used a 3-D camera to evaluate wound area and volume. The mean baseline wound areas were 12.9 ± 10.7 cm2 for CPUT and 11.7 ± 7.0 cm2 for LPUT. The mean baseline wound volume was 7.5 ± 8.1 for CPUT and 9.2 ± 10.2 cm3 for LPUT. There was no difference between CPUT and LPUT in wound closure (36.8% vs 19.0%, P = .21) or infection (10.5% vs 4.8%, P = .60). There was no difference in mean …

From its origins, a core value of contemporary dance is rebellion. The definition of contemporary dance has evolved throughout the decades as dancers continue to discover innovative movements that almost contradict their predecessors, inspiring its ever-evolving aesthetic. Unlike other technical styles like ballet, there is no strict codified “right” or “wrong,” nor is there a set vocabulary, meaning contemporary dance can look like a lot of things. A common conception when it comes to dance in general is how it transcends nationalities as a universal language of sorts.
