NEBO: A Literary Journal

Nebo, Volume 1, Issue 1 (Spring 1983), marks the beginning of a new era for Arkansas Tech University’s literary journal, as it transitions from its former identity as The Five Cent Cigar to Nebo. Published biannually by the English Department, Nebo takes its name from both the Chaldean god of writing and the iconic Arkansas landmark, Mount Nebo, symbolizing the journal’s dedication to creative expression and literary excellence.

This essay explores creative works that produce powerful reactions of discernment, hostility, or deep uncertainty from mysterious forms of “blankness.” They all use silence or similarly ineffable qualities to challenge the thoughtfulness and tolerance of audience members. They force us to understand that creativity sometimes manifests itself in strange and bizarre ways that test not only our viewing tolerance, but also our traditional notions of creativity and of intellectual property boundary lines. Discrimination, Private Liberty, And Public Accommodations Law, Jacob Eisler

Texas A&M Law Review

In 303 Creative LLC v. Elenis, a fiercely divided Supreme Court opined that commercial vendors enjoy First Amendment protections to decline to serve customers, even where such a choice is prohibited by state public accommodations regimes. In identifying a clash between personal liberty and state instruction, the decision could radically reshape the public accommodations statutory regime, which prevents discrimination against customers from minority and vulnerable groups. Standard constitutional interpretation cannot explain 303 Creative, and existing doctrinal and scholarly frameworks will struggle to integrate the decision into the already convoluted narrative of public accommodation law.

International Journal of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education

This article focuses on the issue of reflection for music studio teachers in higher education. Although stimulated recall and reflection on action are well-developed research fields in classroom education settings, the application of these methods to studio teaching is rare, a form of pedagogy which is heavily influenced by the master–apprentice tradition, with many teachers engaging in this practice without any formal training. The article presents the findings associated with three different studio pedagogues reflecting on video recordings of their lessons via cooperative analysis. Te Puna is the central hub for ākonga (learners) and kaimahi (staff) at Te Whare Wānanga o Wairaka - Unitec campus at Mt Albert, Auckland, New Zealand. “Puna” means spring, and the student hub has been designed to celebrate the Wairaka stream and its spring – Te Wai Unuroa o Wairaka. The spring remains alive on campus to this day, serving not only as an important cultural landmark, but also as a metaphor for holistic wellbeing - physical, spiritual and mental nourishment for our ākonga. Writing Research Into Fiction, Jessica Smartt Gullion

The Qualitative Report

Qualitative methodology has evolved to include all sorts of epistemologies that positivism excludes. We have seen an increase in the use of arts-based methods as ways of gathering, analyzing, and writing research. This includes the genre of fiction as research. In fiction as research, the researcher gathers and analyzes data, but writes the findings from them to the audience as fiction. This is often done to expand the audience of readers and include people who might not normally read (or have access to) research reports.
