Scholars have highlighted Thomas Carlyle’s “Occasional Discourse on the Negro Question” (1849) as a point of no return for Carlyle’s descent into a full-throated advocacy of racism, imperialism, and proto-fascism. His 1843 article “Dr. Francia” on the late Paraguayan dictator has garnered much less critical attention than the provocative “Occasional Discourse,” but it simultaneously anticipates the latter essay and offers an alternative representation of Carlyle’s ideas—and Victorian ideas more generally— about shifting categories of race and imperialism before they congealed. Jules Perrot and Jean Coralli’s choreography of Giselle’s wilis continues to influence the essentialized femininity in Ballet Blanc. The folkloric víla origins of the wilis create a direct contradiction to the archetypal ballet woman. The celebrated story of Ballet Blanc’s Giselle conflates the Slavic origins and wili characteristics, while simultaneously abandoning key characteristics of the Slavic víla. Antonia Dougherty’s thesis endeavors to unify these distinct components of the víla and their symbology so that a gender critical analysis of the essentialized femininity of Ballet Blanc’s Giselle may be explored. This braided research-performance thesis uses personal narrative, critical theory, and live performance to investigate how whiteness is sustained and embodied. Grounded in the work of bell hooks, Ibram X. Kendi, Tema Okun, Diana Taylor, Catrice M. Jackson, Miguel Gutierrez, and Narcissister, I interrogate whiteness not as a static identity, but as a system of power that shapes perception, behavior, and social value. As a cisgender white woman, I move through the world with unearned ease—my presence normalized, my advantages often unquestioned.

It engages in a blend of qualitative, embodied, and autoethnographic methods—including dance studies, developmental science, phenomenology, and cultural analysis—to examine how movement emerges, evolves, and carries meaning. Grounded in my lived experience as a dancer, mother, and Black woman, this research frames the body as both a site and source of knowledge. This action research investigates the impact of arts-integrated mindfulness practices on elementary students’ ability to self-regulate. In response to a significant rise in emotional dysregulation and mental health concerns among young learners - exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic - this study explores how combining mindfulness techniques with artistic expression can enhance emotional awareness, focus, and resilience. Through classroom activities such as breathing exercises, movement, music, and visual arts, students were guided to engage in self-reflection and emotion regulation in creative, accessible ways. For much of theatre history, playwrights held primary authority over productions, shaping not only the script but also the staging and interpretation of their work. As theatrical production became more complex during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, however, the role of the director emerged as a central creative force. Introduction: Early screening for mathematically gifted students (MGSs) in Jordan and other Arab countries is limited, posing challenges in identifying and providing appropriate educational services. This study evaluates the validity and reliability of the Arabiya Calculation Test and Math Curriculum-Based Measurement (M-CBM) as tools for effectively screening and supporting MGSs in inclusive education settings. These tools were developed based on the Jordanian curriculum and international assessment tools and require further validation for use in other Arabic-speaking countries. This thesis examines the enduring resilience of the Singapore–Taiwan relationship, which persists despite intensifying geopolitical constraints, rising diplomatic risks and modest material incentives. This persistence presents a realist paradox: while traditional materialist accounts establish the structural constraints (such as the “One China” policy and great-power rivalry) that rationally predict disengagement, they fail to systematically account for the specific mechanisms and ideational strategies that underpin the relationship's resilience. Addressing this critical theoretical gap, this study applies a constructivist framework centred on identity, norms and recognition, situating these ideational insights alongside material and geopolitical constraints to offer a holistic explanation. Cinematic architecture is a multidisciplinary approach that examines the relationship between film and architecture. This thesis explores how film offers a unique way to immerse audiences in spatial experience. Through time, movement, and visual framing, film can dramatize or reinterpret space according to the director’s vision, making it a valuable medium for understanding how architecture is perceived, used, and felt. This research examines the visual homogenization of music video (MV) production among Southeast Asian girl groups under K-pop's influence—a phenomenon termed K-popization—to elucidate its localization processes within this complex, multi-layered region. วิจัยชิ้นนี้เป็นงานวิจัยเชิงสร้างสรรค์ในแบบวิจัยปฏิบัติการ (Practice Research) ทางศิลปะการละคร มีวัตถุประสงค์ คือ (1) เพื่อศึกษาหลักและเทคนิคในการแสดงละครเล่าเรื่อง ของพอล ซิลส์ และเกมละคร ของไวโอลา สโปลิน และ (2) เพื่อสร้างสรรค์การแสดงละครเล่าเรื่องเพื่อนำเสนอประเด็นปัญหาสิ่งแวดล้อมสำหรับผู้ชมปฐมวัยเรื่อง เพี้ยวโลกกับอุ๊ยมอมแมม ผู้วิจัยออกแบบการแสดงและเป็นนักแสดง ศึกษาแนวคิดละครเล่าเรื่อง นิทานภาพเกี่ยวกับภาวะโลกร้อน เพื่อออกแบบการแสดงละครสำหรับเด็กปฐมวัยอายุ 4-6 ปี เน้นการมีส่วนร่วมของผู้ชม ฝึกฝนการแสดงด้นสดและเกมละคร เพื่อพัฒนาทักษะการด้นสด การมีสมาธิ และการทำงานร่วมกันเป็นกลุ่ม ผู้วิจัยจัดการแสดง 2 รอบในห้องเรียน และจัดการสนทนากลุ่มกับผู้เชี่ยวชาญและครูเพื่อประเมินผล ผู้วิจัยค้นพบรูปแบบการแสดงที่มีลักษณะเฉพาะ คือ “เล่า-นำ-เล่น-เป็นตัวละคร สะท้อนประเด็นสิ่งแวดล้อม” รวมถึงพบว่าระหว่างการแสดงต้องพัฒนาทักษะการฟัง การสังเกต และด้นสด เนื่องจากละครเล่าเรื่องแบบมีส่วนร่วม ดึงดูดความสนใจของผู้ชมปฐมวัยผ่านอุปกรณ์การแสดง เพื่อให้ผู้ชมเรียนรู้ผ่านการลงมือทำ ทั้งยังได้องค์ความรู้ว่า การสื่อสารประเด็นสิ่งแวดล้อมแก่เด็กปฐมวัยให้สัมฤทธิผล โครงเรื่องต้องเข้าใจง่าย เชื่อมโยงกับประสบการณ์ตรง และนักแสดงต้องมีสมาธิ ไหวพริบ และความเป็นมิตร เพื่อสร้างบรรยากาศการเรียนรู้ที่สนุกสนานและเป็นธรรมชาติ

ในงานวิจัยสร้างสรรค์เรื่อง “การดัดแปลงวรรณกรรมเรื่อง ดินแดนคนตาบอด ของเอช. จี. เวลส์ สู่บทละครเพื่อนำเสนอประเด็นความขัดแย้งในสังคมไทย” มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาประเด็นความขัดแย้งในสังคมไทย ผู้วิจัยเลือกวรรณกรรมเรื่อง ดินแดนคนตาบอด ของ เอช. จี. เวลส์ โดยผู้วิจัยได้นำวรรณกรรมสั้นเรื่องดินแดนคนตาบอดทั้งสองตอนจบฉบับแปลไทยจากสำนักพิมพ์สมมติ แปลโดย มโนราห์ มาทำการดัดแปลงข้ามสื่อเป็นบทละครเวที ซึ่งมีเนื้อหาที่กล่าวถึงความเป็นอื่นในสังคมมาดัดแปลงเป็นบทละครเวทีเพื่อเป็นสื่อสะท้อนและวิพากษ์ประเด็นความขัดแย้งในสังคมไทย และสามารถสื่อสารแก่นความคิดเรื่อง มนุษย์ควรวิเคราะห์ความแตกต่างอย่างมีเหตุผลเพื่อให้เกิดการเปลี่ยนแปลงและสามารถอยู่ร่วมกันได้ในสังคม ที่ปรากฏในวรรณกรรม ผู้วิจัยเลือกที่จะใช้การลำดับเล่าเรื่องและบริบทของตามฉบับวรรณกรรมที่ถูกตีพิมพ์ในปี ค.ศ. 1939 ที่ได้รับการแก้ไขและเพิ่มเติมตอนจบของเรื่องราวในวรรณกรรม โดยผู้วิจัยนำวรรณกรรม ดินแดนคนตาบอด ที่ถูกตีพิมพ์ทั้งสองครั้งมาวิเคราะห์ประเด็นความขัดแย้งในสังคม ทฤษฎีการเขียนบทละคร ทฤษฎีการดัดแปลงข้ามสื่อ และแนวคิดสัจนิยมมหัศจรรย์ที่ปรากฏในวรรณกรรมต้นฉบับ นำมาประยุกต์ใช้ในการวิเคราะห์และดัดแปลงบทละคร และนำเสนอบทละครผ่านการแสดงในรูปแบบการอ่าน (Stage Reading) โดยเก็บข้อมูลผ่านกลุ่มตัวอย่างจากผู้ชมทั่วไปที่สมัครใจตอบแบบสอบถามแบบไม่ระบุตัวตน และการเสวนาร่วมกับผู้ทรงคุณวุฒิด้านการเขียนและดัดแปลงบทละคร จากการวิจัยผู้วิจัยพบว่าประเด็นความขัดแย้งทางความคิดเป็นสิ่งสากลที่สามารถเกิดขึ้นและเข้าใจได้แม้จะอยู่ในบริบททางสังคมที่แตกต่างกัน และการนำเสนอแก่นความคิดผ่านการดัดแปลงบทละครเรื่องนี้จะพาให้ผู้ชมเชื่อมโยงกับปัญหาความขัดแย้งทางความคิดที่เกิดขึ้นในสังคมไทย จนทำให้เกิดการพูดคุยและถกเถียงกันภายหลังจากการรับชมการแสดงในรูปแบบของการอ่านได้ โดยผู้ชมส่วนใหญ่สามารถเชื่อมโยงเรื่องราวกับบริบทสังคมไทยได้ แม้จะมีข้อเสนอแนะให้ปรับปรุงในประเด็นการพัฒนาตัวละคร การใช้ภาษาในบทละคร และการสร้างสมดุลในการนำเสนอมุมมองของทั้งสองฝ่าย

งานวิจัยเรื่อง การสร้างบทบรรยายเสียงสำหรับผู้พิการทางการเห็นในการแสดงสด : กรณีศึกษาละครเวทีเรื่อง หลง แตก สูญ ของ นิกร แซ่ตั้ง มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อสร้างบทบรรยายเสียงสำหรับผู้พิการทางการเห็นในการแสดงสด : กรณีศึกษาละครเวทีเรื่อง หลง แตก สูญ ของ นิกร แซ่ตั้ง ที่เพิ่มโอกาสในการสื่อสารเนื้อเรื่องได้อย่างชัดเจน และลดข้อจำกัดในการเข้าถึงศิลปการแสดงสำหรับผู้พิการทางการเห็น โดยมุ่งเน้นการศึกษาผลลัพธ์จากการใช้งานบทบรรยายเสียง (Audio Narration) จริงในสถานการณ์การแสดงสด โดยวัดผลในด้าน 1) ระดับความเข้าใจเนื้อเรื่อง 2) ความพึงพอใจต่อประสบการณ์การชม และ 3) การมีส่วนร่วมทางอารมณ์เพื่อนำไปใช้ในการพัฒนาและปรับปรุงเทคนิคการสร้างบทบรรยายเสียง การวิจัยนี้มีวิธีการดําเนินงานวิจัยจากการศึกษา และวิเคราะห์เอกสาร การสัมภาษณ์ และประสบการณ์ เป็นการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ ผลการวิจัยพบว่า จากการทดลองโดยใช้วิธีการหรือแนวคิดทฤษฎีการเข้าถึงสื่อและหลักการออกแบบสากล (Universal Design for Learning: UDL) ร่วมกับการสร้างบทบรรยายเสียงสำหรับผู้พิการทางการเห็นในการแสดงสดช่วยลดข้อจำกัดในการเข้าถึงศิลปะการแสดงโดยการถ่ายทอดองค์ประกอบบนเวทีอย่างครบถ้วน ทั้งบุคลิกลักษณะ กริยา ท่าทางของตัวละคร ภาพฉาก การเคลื่อนไหว สัญลักษณ์และเทคนิคการการแสดงในละครเวทีรวมถึงการใช้เทคโนโลยีบรรยายสด ซึ่งทำให้ผู้พิการทางการเห็นสามารถเข้าใจแก่นเรื่องและนัยยะสำคัญของการแสดงได้อย่างชัดเจน และได้รับประสบการณ์การชมที่ครบถ้วนทั้งทางศิลปะและอารมณ์ใกล้เคียงกับผู้ชมทั่วไปคำสำคัญ : บทบรรยายเสียง, ผู้พิการทางการเห็น, การแสดงสด, ละครเวที

งานวิจัยเรื่อง แนวทางการสืบสานคุณค่าภูมิปัญญาละครชาตรีของจังหวัดเพชรบุรี มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ 1) วิเคราะห์คุณค่าภูมิปัญญาละครชาตรีของจังหวัดเพชรบุรี 2) วิเคราะห์การสืบสานคุณค่าภูมิปัญญาละครชาตรีของจังหวัดเพชรบุรี และ 3) นำเสนอแนวทางการสืบสานคุณค่าภูมิปัญญาละครชาตรีของจังหวัดเพชรบุรี เป็นการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ โดยใช้การสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึก การสังเกตภาคสนาม ผู้ให้ข้อมูลสำคัญประกอบด้วยครูละครชาตรี ศิลปินท้องถิ่น ผู้สืบสาน ผู้เรียน และผู้ทรงคุณวุฒิด้านศิลปวัฒนธรรม รวมจำนวน 30 คน ผลการวิจัยพบว่า ละครชาตรีเพชรบุรีมีคุณค่าภูมิปัญญาหลัก 3 ด้าน ได้แก่ (1) คุณค่าด้านสุนทรียศาสตร์ สะท้อนความงามของท่ารำ เสียงดนตรี และภาษาท้องถิ่นที่เป็นเอกลักษณ์ (2) คุณค่าด้านจริยศาสตร์ ถ่ายทอดผ่านพิธีไหว้ครู ครอบครู และบทละครที่สอนคุณธรรม ความกตัญญู ความซื่อสัตย์ และการรู้จักตน (3) คุณค่าวัฒนธรรม ซึ่งละครชาตรีทำหน้าที่เชื่อมโยงผู้คนในชุมชน เป็นเครื่องมือสร้างความสัมพันธ์ทางวัฒนธรรม และเป็นเวทีในการอนุรักษ์อัตลักษณ์ของจังหวัดเพชรบุรี การสืบสานดำเนินการผ่านระบบ ครูสู่ศิษย์ และการเรียนรู้เชิงประสบการณ์ในพิธีกรรมจริง ส่งผลให้ผู้เรียนได้รับทั้งทักษะทางศิลปะและคุณธรรมทางใจ รวมถึงการบูรณาการเข้ากับระบบการศึกษาและสื่อร่วมสมัยเพื่อขยายฐานผู้เรียนและผู้ชม แนวทางการสืบสานที่เหมาะสมประกอบด้วย 3 มิติ คือ (1) การอนุรักษ์อย่างมีชีวิต (2) การพัฒนาอย่างสร้างสรรค์ และ (3) การมีส่วนร่วมของชุมชน ซึ่งทั้งหมดมุ่งสู่การธำรงคุณค่าและพัฒนาศิลปะการแสดงพื้นบ้านให้คงอยู่ได้อย่างยั่งยืน

The following study explores the character types that have been historically available to Black actors in American theatre and how that representation enforced, resisted, or ignored stereotypes. To examine the impact of those roles on the performers who played them, I examine the documented approaches Black actors have taken to embody their characters, as well as my own evolving process used to portray the eight characters I have inhabited in my personal college performance career at Georgia Southern University. Public hand wringing over waning faith in the Supreme Court, this Essay contends, mistakes symptom for cause. The real crisis is not distrust but the Court’s persistent failure to earn trust in the first place. Trust is a feeling; trustworthiness is a record. This Essay adopts a common understanding of trustworthiness that evaluates the demonstrated ability of the trusted party to protect the vulnerable trusting parties, and analyzes the Court’s trustworthiness against that yardstick. As algorithms become a function of decision-making in the financial sector, policymakers, the judiciary, and academics grapple with regulatory questions. With the increased reliance on algorithms in finance, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) proposed a rule to mitigate potential conflicts of interest that can arise out of financial firms using algorithms. Algorithm users, including financial firms, are finding novel ways to protect algorithm use, such as by offering them First Amendment protections.
