4. Oer As Assessment: Open Pedagogy In A Theatre History Course, Teresa Focarile Jan 2025

4. Oer As Assessment: Open Pedagogy In A Theatre History Course, Teresa Focarile

Open Educational Resources For and As Assessment

The following chapter serves as an example for how to combine assessment and Open Educational Practices (OEP), alongside evidence that doing so can improve both learning and teaching experiences. When I made the decision to utilize Open Educational Resources (OER) in my theatre history course (THEA 230), I also created a new culminating assessment. The products of this assessment became openly accessible materials that were added to the OER for THEA 230. This chapter includes a brief description of the course context and the impetus for the adoption of OER. I provide an overview of how I developed this new …

This process demonstrates the ability of OER to redefine academic assessment and collaboration, showcasing how OER can transform the educational experience into a more engaging, enriching, …

The Influence Of Japanese Art And Aesthetics On The Paintings Of Théodore Rousseau, Erinn Alexis Stuart Jan 2025

The Influence Of Japanese Art And Aesthetics On The Paintings Of Théodore Rousseau, Erinn Alexis Stuart

Graduate Research Theses & Dissertations

Landscape paintings of Barbizon painter Théodore Rousseau provide a unique perspective on the impact of Japanese artworks on nineteenth-century French painting. The examination of Eastern influences on Western art has been confined to Western urban popular culture, resulting in a narrative that restricts the understanding of modern art to the context of Western industrialization. This method of exploring cultural influences constructs a narrative of othering, confining the perception of its impact to the superficial and commercial, thus perpetuating an othering subnarrative, not only between the two nations but also between the different genres of Western art. Through an investigation into …

Pages De Voyage, Voyages De Pages: A La Recherche Du Sacré Dans La Poésie De Silvia Baron Supervielle, Peter Schulman

World Languages and Cultures Faculty Publications

Personification: A Short Film, Charles R. Adams Jan 2025

Personification: A Short Film, Charles R. Adams

Undergraduate Honors Thesis Projects

Personification follows a group of college students as they receive news that mysterious shape-shifting creatures are posing as humans. They quickly turn on each other, realizing there is no one they can trust. In the style of mid-20th - century horror films, notably Don Siegel’s Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956), the short film explores themes of paranoia and the value of human expression in a time when generative AI seeks to replace the creative method. In keeping with this theme, the emphasis for this project was on the act of creation. Pre-production—which included scriptwriting, casting, and various organizational tasks—ran …

Fluctuating “Indianness” Or “Belonging” : Singapore Indian Dancers And Their Encounter With Southeast Asia At Ramayana Festival, Yoshiaki Takemura

Asian Review

This article investigates the dynamic relationship between cultural heritage and regional identity among the Indian diaspora in Singapore, specifically focusing on the experiences of classical Indian dancers. Historically, the process of “Indianization” deeply influenced the cultural landscape of Southeast Asia, evidenced by the regional prominence of the Hindu epics, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. Using the context of a regional Ramayana Festival, this paper analyzes how Singaporean Indian dancers, while performing art forms rooted in the Indian subcontinent, negotiate their identity when confronted with diverse Southeast Asian interpretations of the same epic narrative. The study argues that this encounter forces a …

The Impact Of Generative Ai On Undergraduate Students During The Scenic Design Process, Tetta M. Askeland

Education Doctorate Dissertations

The landscape of theatre education is rapidly evolving as students immersed in technology are entering education struggling with traditional artistic techniques while gravitating toward digital tools. This pre-experimental one-shot case study investigated the impact of Adobe Firefly on undergraduate theatrical design students' self-perception of their visual communication skills during the scenic design research process.

Thirty-four undergraduate students from six Midwestern universities participated in a three-phase study utilizing Teresa M. Amabile's Componential Theory of Creativity as the theoretical framework. Participants completed traditional scenic design projects for Lily's Purple Plastic Purse, engaged in an Adobe Firefly intervention module, and subsequently completed …
