The focus of this capstone is on decolonizing cultural institutions through organizational partnerships in order to make recommendations to other organizations that wish to begin or continue this work. This capstone was a case study that invited seven nonprofit organizations to be interviewed virtually to discuss decolonial methods within their organizational partnerships. Interviews were conducted with cultural institutions and community organizations in the Northeast United States with aims to support the arts, education, community building, and environmental stewardship. The Village of Bradley (VoB) entered a collaborative relationship with Governors State University (GSU), College of Art and Science, Division of Arts and Letters, Public Policy and Administration Unit for the Spring 2025 semester. The VoB, located in Kankakee County, Illinois, is seeking the research of economic development corporations in Illinois and creating a website for Bradley Economic Development Corporation.

The VoB has a small-town environment, with hopes of reversing the loss of the population base and developing a new revenue stream. The Village of Bradley has a motto of “Proud of Our Past, Focused on Our Future”. Its name …

Today, reappraisal of history has become paramount in society. Scholars seek to contextualize building names, statues, and the land we live on. However, historians time and time again fail to reappraise popular figures in American history and misrepresent them by placing them on a pedestal. This thesis will analyze the existing body of scholarly work and primary historical sources to compare two such leaders from history in Chiang Kai-shek and Abraham Lincoln. INTRODUCTION: Female college dancers present a unique set of demands that contribute to a risk of injury different from other sports. Two of the primary physical demands of dance, mobility and strength, are also known risk factors for non contact injuries. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between mobility, strength, and non contact injuries in female college dancers and add to the current gap in literature. METHODS: Participants (n=10) completed an injury history, hand-grip assessment, Functional Movement Screen (FMS), and monthly follow up injury surveys during the duration of the study. For the 2024 production of Pitt State Theatre's "Mrs. Dalloway", our production team made the decision to include AI as part of the design of the production, and incorporated it's use throughout the process with image and video projection. The AI enhanced and expanded our reach to convey the story and impact of our production in new avenues for our theatre company and design team. Since this initial foray, we have continued to use AI as an effective tool for various tasks in recent productions. We hope to continue to use AI in the future for new creative outlets and …

The spread of baseball during the mid-nineteenth century is sometimes associated with soldiers and former soldiers who served during the US Civil War. This association is partly true in Colorado, Kansas, and Nebraska. However, white settlers from the Northeast and Midwest also brought baseball and similar ball games to the region before the Civil War began, and civilians played ball during the war. The first team organized in the region was the Denver Base Ball Club (BBC) in March 1862, although it disbanded as warmer weather permitted mining activity to resume. Understanding undergraduate students' perceptions regarding university libraries’ services, resources, and physical space allows library leadership to improve student support. The purpose of this needs assessment using cross-sectional survey data of undergraduate students (N = 1733) was to examine how students use the libraries, how they perceive their ability to use resources, services, and physical spaces, and the relationship between use and perception to better understand satisfaction levels with everything academic libraries offer. This thesis focuses on the materials and construction methods behind the pie props for Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. The first part of the thesis focuses on prop construction as a technical form and expands on what constitutes a consumable prop, as well as defines key words and vocabulary I use throughout my thesis. It also introduces the two productions I modeled my prop pies after. I focused on the 2023 Broadway production and the 2015 Vancouver Opera’s production, as well as a practical ‘cookbook’ as further reference. In this thesis some problems that were addressed was how the technology of holograms could serve as a dual-market enhancer: by being an experimental art form and aid with the lack of scalability in live performances. This thesis explores the various social reactions to pandemics, particularly the Black Death and COVID-19. During the Black Death, people struggled with displacement, sickness, and death due to the pestilence, causing them to turn to their scientific and religious institutions for explanations. 673 years later, the world was struck by the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in the same consequences. The social reactions to the most recent COVID-19 pandemic are eerily similar to those recorded during the Black Death, revealing the consistency in human nature when responding and reacting to pandemics.

The Long Shadow Of Pride And Prejudice On Contemporary Fictions Of Arranged Marriage And Marriages Of Alliance, Candice Belluscio

This dissertation is an examination of the conflicts between arranged marriage and companionate marriage in selected contemporary Anglo-Indian novels and novels about Orthodox Judaism. The project’s guiding focus is how modern ideals of independence and choice in marriage coexist simultaneously with older ideals of marriage as family or personal “alliance.” The dissertation has a historical chapter that shows that although ideals of companionate marriage have become norms of 20th century western society and literature, the term “companionate marriage” is a recent invention and convention, and that various degrees and forms of arranged marriage, or marriages of alliance, continue despite their …

The papers of Professor Emerita Margaret Collins Weitz of the Humanities and Modern Language Departments at Suffolk University relate to her scholarly research in the fields of women’s studies, French women, French culture and history, women in the French Resistance during World War II, and human rights. The collection also documents her extensive teaching career at Suffolk University in the Humanities and Modern Languages Departments and at Harvard University. The Grand Rapids area nonprofit arts and culture sector (GRACS) is estimated to have generated or supported economic benefits for the city of Grand Rapids and Kent County in the following ways:

• The total economic impact of this industry is estimated at $298.7 million in economic output, supporting 2,529 jobs. Approximately $195 million in economic output is new to the area.
• The total annual fiscal impact (tax revenue) of all primary visitor spending and GRACS organizational spending is estimated at $821,000 for municipalities and $585,000 for Kent County.
• GRACS events attracted 2.67 million visitors, with 48% visiting from outside the …
