“Plenty Of Heart And Plenty Of Hope”: An Analysis Of Social And Historical Implications In Post-Wwii Western Musical Films, Katelyn N. Lister
Selected Honors Theses
World War II had a profound and significant impact on American life and culture. Hollywood and film production was one area that was notably different after the war with themes and settings that promoted patriotism and American values being seen more frequently. Film lends itself to analysis due to its recorded and preserved nature that allows audiences today to view the same thing that audiences in the early 1950s were seeing, albeit with a different worldview. Western movies made in the late 1940s and early 1950s perfectly encapsulate the feelings of most Americans during the postwar period. Additionally, a new …

Flow Experience In Immersive Tourism Performance: Antecedents And Tourists’ Satisfaction, Xiaoli Zhu
Dissertations and Theses Collection (Open Access)
With the deep integration of culture and tourism, immersive tourism performance has emerged as a new form of experiential consumption and has gradually become an essential vehicle for shaping destination branding and enhancing tourists’ cultural identity. By breaking the boundaries of traditional stages and integrating spatial construction, narrative mechanisms, and multidimensional interactive experiences, immersive performances create a sense of presence and immersion for tourists. This study focuses on the mechanism influencing tourists’ flow experience and satisfaction in immersive tourism performances. A theoretical model incorporating authenticity, interactivity, sense of presence, and value congruence was constructed and tested to reveal how multidimensional …

Generative Artificial Intelligence In Hollywood: The Turbulent Future That Lies Ahead, Zachary T. Young
Generative Artificial Intelligence In Hollywood: The Turbulent Future That Lies Ahead, Zachary T. Young
West Virginia Law Review
Since the dawn of time, the human race has used some form of technology to assist their unwavering dedication to push society forward. From the first stone tool to the first computer, some sort of regulation controlled their usage, ranging from government regulations to industry standards. When artificial intelligence (“AI”) entered the arena of technology, regulatory bodies froze at the daunting task of controlling such a powerful tool. Across almost every industry, artificial intelligence has found its home in various work functions. Generative artificial intelligence has furthered the complexity that stems from regulating a new, and never before seen technology. …
I Am: Power From Identity In “Revelation” And No Exit, Elisabeth Edwards
I Am: Power From Identity In “Revelation” And No Exit, Elisabeth Edwards
English Senior Capstone
In the short story “Revelation” and play No Exit, Flannery O’Connor and Jean-Paul Sartre explore the necessity of self-awareness. By setting their works in confined spaces, O’Connor and Sartre push their characters to confront their deeper identities. For Mary Grace and Inez, a strong sense of self gives them the power to impose negative names upon more vulnerable individuals. For Ruby Turpin, Gracin, and Estelle, ignorance of self leaves them indefensible to harsh truths. Analyzing “Revelation” and No Exit through a philosophical and religious lens reveals that without an accurate sense of self, we risk becoming nothing more than the …

Unseen Dancers, Unheard Voices: Advocating For The Needs Of An Underrepresented Population, Emma Ask
SPARK Symposium Presentations
At Belmont University, a liberal arts institution with a diverse student body pursuing disciplines like musical theatre, commercial music, and dance, there is a significant lack of proper rehearsal spaces—especially for dance. Students are often forced to practice in unsafe areas such as classrooms, basements, and carpeted floors. This project aims to raise awareness among students and administration to advocate for safe, dedicated rehearsal spaces for dancers. Our project execution had two phases. The first was a written proposal for a dance/studio space on campus. The second was a well-core “ Battle of the Dances” event to spread awareness for …

Strategy & Leadership In Accounting & Finance Module Redesign, Lucy Bowe, Ruth O'Leary
Case studies: Digital Education
This year, we have been redesigning the "Strategy & Leadership in Accounting & Finance” module. This finalyear undergraduate module aim is to develop students' judgment, critical thinking, and ability to integrate knowledge to solve real-world business challenges. The module is delivered by a team of lecturers and employs multi-disciplinary case-studies to provide authentic learning and assessment. It is offered across three programs in the Faculty of Business resulting in high student numbers, which presents several challenges including time-tabling, room availability and attendance issues. We also wanted to encourage active student engagement, debate and the sharing of diverse perspectives.
