Our project is about reducing friction for the re-entry of previously incarcerated, emerging adults. To contribute to the solution of the issues facing emerging adults returning from incarceration in the Missoula community, we will implement three workshop events to foster a sense of community and belongingness in the returning citizens population. The goal of these workshops is to aid in a smoother transition back into society, integrating components of social, personal, and community-based skill sets. We have found through surveying individuals who are currently or previously incarcerated in our targeted age range of 17-25 that a majority of those surveyed …

During the Vietnam War, the United States ran an extensive program of psychological warfare in order to win the ‘hearts and minds’ of the Vietnamese people. The Van Tac Vu program was one of the many psychological operations conducted by the United States in South Vietnam. Utilizing traveling Vietnamese cultural-drama troupes and drawing from Vietnamese culture, this program sought to win the sympathies of rural Vietnamese whom the Viet Cong were also seeking to influence. This paper describes the importance of understanding the intention imbued in genres of dance through cultural knowledge, specifically through Bharatanatyam. By investigating the origins of movement from around the world, dance can be understood as a form of language in addition to a source of release and celebrations. By honing empathy towards kinesthetic traditions, we can have a greater understanding of dance as a source of affirming identity and communication.

Dance is an intricate component of society. Creative movement is often scrutinized, although it is the embodiment of both cultural knowledge and kinesthetic principles. Folk dance is known for its association with social customs and recreational events, whereas ethnic dance has a strong regional and cultural heritage interwoven into its foundation. Despite differences in historical upbringing, views by society, and choreographic qualities, it is important to appreciate both forms of dance as essential part of global contribution. How Much Wood Would A Scene Painter Paint If A Scene Painter Could Paint Wood: Scenic Wood Grain Techniques, Rebecca S. Yee

“Scenic painters, we paint wood to look like wood”. In this project I used knowledge from my time in UMW as a scenic painter to further my skills and focus on wood grain techniques. In this collection of 5 wood grain samples, I used wood graining tools and a brush separately to compare the different outcomes that were produced. Wood grain samples include pristine softwood and hardwood, aged softwood and hardwood, and wood panels in the style of trompe l'oeil.

Players take on the role of Chicago drag artist Molly Jolly Christmas, as she fights to stop the evil president Billy the Bigot from passing HB69, a bill that will ban drag once and for all. With mechanics inspired by classic games in the genre, and the addition of drag-inspired actions like purse smacking and gown spinning, the game provides a cathartic outlet for queer gamers who are ready to fight back against hateful rhetoric and legislature. In this session, we will report on interviews conducted with scholars in the arts and humanities that explored participants’ approaches to open access publishing, self-archiving, and dissemination of research and creative work, focusing on their engagement with institutional repositories (IR). While depositing activities ranged considerably among participants, most expressed confusion about copyright and had little motivation for navigating “clunky” IR systems. We will share scholars’ considerations, frustrations, and misconceptions about self-archiving their work in IRs, how it compares to their dissemination practices in disciplinary repositories and academic social networks (ASN), and what librarians can take away from their experiences to …

True crime adaptations have become increasingly popular in the past few decades, but their existence reaches back several centuries. They have taken many forms, including stage dramas, graphic novels, and true crime podcasts. Examples of these adaptations— particularly the play Arden of Faversham, the graphic novel From Hell, and modern true crime podcasts—illustrate the selective process used to create true crime adaptations. That process chooses to foreground certain aspects of crimes while others are left behind, which changes audience understandings of the crime. By understanding the nuances of these adaptations, the potential effects they create in audience perceptions become clear. …
