This article explores the literary journey of Ajip Rosidi, one of Indonesia’s most prolific writers, highlighting his unique position between Sundanese and Indonesian literature. Ajip authored over 300 works spanning diverse genres, making significant contributions to literature and the preservation of cultural heritage. The article examines his ambivalence or restlessness (kegelisahan) regarding the tension between regional and national identities in literature, as exemplified in his reflections and creative output. Ajip’s early life in a linguistically mixed region of West Java laid the foundation for his literary pursuits in both Sundanese and Indonesian. His works often oscillated between traditional …

Spolia refers to repurposing components from older buildings into new constructions, a concept with a rich history. Traditionally, unique components were the primary focus; however, this ap- proach remains relevant today for mass-produced components. By diverting materials from waste streams, spolia preserves their inherent properties and facilitates the rapid transfer of stylistic fea- tures in the modern world. When a 1970s movie theatre in Moscow, Russia, was demolished in 2019, a substantial amount of steel was recycled, while brick and concrete were sent to landfills. Corlu municipality building was built in 1984, by famous architects Maruf Önal and Hakkı Önel through modern architecture signs in Turkey. It was designed with a modest and rational approach, with meticulous construction, although it is a public building in line with a modern style. In terms of location, the municipality building was built in front of today's Cumhuriyet square, between the Kumyol Street and Omurtak Street, in the period when Salih Omurtak Street was just opened, during the years when the construction in Çorlu was not concentrated yet. This paper explores the impact of Yiddish Theatre in Moscow and broader Russia in the era of the Russian Revolution as a Jewish cultural and political force. The intersection of the Russian Revolution and the Jewish Haskalah reformation created the space for Yiddish theatre, a cultural movement combining Jewish identity with revolutionary ideals, to thrive. Yiddish theatre became a space for community discourse and political critique during Stalin’s rule, preserving Russian-Jewish cultural identity amid growing Soviet hostility. In 1991 Leningrad TV published a dramatization miniseries based on the first volume of The Lord of the Rings, entitled Khraniteli (Хранители). Unfortunately, due to the turbulent political situation in the Soviet Union at that time, the series was only televised once, the idea of making sequels based off the other two volumes abandoned, and the whole project fell into oblivion until 2021, when the sucessor of Lenigrad TV uploaded Khraniteli to its youtube channel. Naturally, this aroused a lot of commotion among Tolkien fans who, comparing it to the better known Jackson’s adaptation, found it funny and ridiculous. This …

There has been no previous research that has focused on a comprehensive analysis of the specific content of legal dramas, so this study is exploratory in nature. This project centers around the creation of an original jazz composition and music video for the purpose of filling the gap in visual media used to promote jazz music. The history of music in film is briefly explored, as well as the history of jazz in film and music videos. Jazz is found to have been intertwined with film from the first widely available sound films, but the connection has since dwindled, with only a few modern jazz compositions having widely available music videos.

American Christians and the LGBTQ+ community have long been in a cultural war with one another. However, queer Christians – individuals who are both LGBTQ+ and Christian – have rarely found solace in either community, instead being shunned and ostracized for their beliefs and identities. Using the transformative art of theatre to address cultural divides, a theatrical scenic design was developed for Joe Calarco’s Shakespeare’s R & J, a retelling of the traditional Romeo and Juliet script through the lives of four Catholic school girls. In early Middle England, Jews faced an onslaught of antisemitic violence as they were falsely accused of blood libels and the murdering of young children. This culminated in their expulsion from England in 1290, but although they had no legal standing in the country, antisemitism ran rampant in their absence. In this project, I will examine instances of antisemitism in medieval culture, specifically through its drama. By surveying representations of 'exotic' landscapes and 'monstrous' other-than-human creatures of the tropics featured in exhibits of the fin de siecle and early interwar period, including visual displays and descriptive language at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago (1893) and the Panama-Pacific International Exposition (PPIE) in San Francisco (1915), this project examines tropical frontiers as conceived in the geographical imaginaries of the United States to explore how metropolitan audiences related to those environments encountered at the imperial periphery.
