Neurocognitive changes associated with dementia impact an individual’s ability to function in everyday life. Modern approaches to dementia care emphasize meeting the individual where they are at, which may often involve nontraditional therapeutic techniques. Drama therapy, a type of therapy that implements elements of performance and creativity, has been successfully utilized with this population. Drama therapy consists of core processes, which may vary based on the interventions used. This paper explores the core process of play through the use of a puppet when engaging with individuals with middle-to-late stage dementia. This project explores the influences of the personal relationships, political circumstances, and culture on the music of seven composers for flute: Friedrich Kuhlau, Carl Reinecke, Franz Doppler, George Enescu, Eldin Burton, Jonathan Cohen, and Carlos Simon, with a specific focus on eight pieces by these composers. Through this exploration it is apparent their music not only conveys their art but also embodies the composer's personal relationships, political circumstances, and culture.

Imagine a world without emotions. Ghosted is an eleven-part dark comedy script inspired by The Giver, Clue, Knives Out: Glass Onion, and Inside Out. The script explores the consequences of a dystopian, government-controlled society that has eradicated emotions in the name of order. The script blends dark comedy with elements of Theatre of the Absurd to highlight the farcical nature and danger of emotional suppression. Drawing on research in emotional psychology and emotional dysregulation, Ghosted presents emotions as incorporeal “Emotion Ghosts” that possess five volunteers and unleash unpredictable chaos. The environmental and public health challenges in Bayview-Hunters Point have catalyzed widespread community activism, as residents and advocates respond to the ongoing fallout from radiological contamination at the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard. Communication plays a vital role in bridging the gap between affected communities and government entities throughout the cleanup process. This research asks: how have the communication strategies of advocacy groups influenced government actions and policies during the Bayview-Hunters Point Shipyard cleanup? Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College (MGCJC), was a single-campus institution until the early 1960s, when it began plans to create two new White-enrolling, segregated campuses: the Jefferson Davis Campus in Harrison County, and the Jackson County Campus to its east. Plans for a third, Black-enrolling, segregated campus were abandoned, and when the two new campuses opened, the first students to register for classes were Black. Through the leadership of Black residents active in labor and civil rights organizations, the Black community of George, Harrison, Jackson, and Stone Counties successfully demanded expanded, integrated educational access in the deep south, some five …

The thesis will consist of program notes for my graduate vocal performance recital. The recital included a variety of music from the composers Stanislaw Moniuszko, Wolfgang Mozart, Carl Loewe, Michael Costa, and John Philip Sousa. Each piece was accompanied by program notes that included a brief biography of the composer, information about the piece, text and translation, and a performance reflection. In this recital, I wanted to have a program of pieces that were rarely, if ever, performed. I’m personally part Polish from my moms’ side, which sparked a desire to include something in Polish. Displaying content on OST devices is difficult because the digital content is overlaid on the real-world environment, which can have dynamic and non-uniform lighting and backgrounds. This can make the displayed content appear washed out, transparent, or invisible, especially in bright environments. This disclosure describes the use of a camera sensor on a head-mounted device to capture an image of the real-world background in the user's field of view and using the image to calculate the non-uniformity of the background. Photometric compensation is applied to the display content to correct the perceived non-uniformities. The described techniques improve the perceived uniformity …

Russian composer and pianist Rodion Shchedrin (b. 1932) is considered one of the most successful contemporary Russian composers. He established his reputation at a young age. This document will discuss Shchedrin’s early musical style as reflected in his Ten Piano Pieces, Op. 20, a collection of ten pieces composed between 1952 and 1961. By analyzing the structure, harmony, and character of these pieces, this document aims to explore the commonalities among them and explore the distinctive appeal of Shchedrin's music.

The interplay between alcohol use disorder (AUD) and anxiety disorders (ANX) is well-documented, yet the underlying neurobiological mechanisms remain elusive. This study aims to elucidate these mechanisms by examining the resting-state functional connectivity (RSFC) within the salience network and to the amygdala, both implicated in alcohol and anxiety disorders. We analyzed data from 264 inpatient participants culled from a wider group of 518 inpatients at The Menninger Clinic in Houston, TX, categorized into four groups (n = 66 each) based on DSM-IV diagnoses: AUD without ANX (AUD), ANX without AUD (ANX), concurrent AUD and ANX (BOTH), and neither (NEITHER). The Sonata for Double Bass and Piano by Ruth Gipps (completed in 1996) presents unique challenges for performers. The piece was previously only available in a published version of the manuscript which lacks many articulation markings, dynamics, and other expressive indicators. This study explores the potential of masks as structured datasets that encode physiognomic, emotional, and archetypal information, influencing narrative construction and audience perception. Using a qualitative research approach, the study investigates how mask design elements—shape, gaze, and expression—impact cognitive and emotional responses in storytelling. A sequential panel of images featuring masked characters were used as stimuli, engaging participants with diverse design expertise in a narrative exercise. The selection of three masks with similar styles and one distinctly different mask (blue in colour) was intentional to examine how visual deviations influence narrative perception.
