Improving Engagement Through Readers' Theater: A Systematic Literature Review And Teacher Process Portfolio With Program Proposal, Karen K. Crum Aug 2025

Improving Engagement Through Readers' Theater: A Systematic Literature Review And Teacher Process Portfolio With Program Proposal, Karen K. Crum

Theses and Dissertations

This project investigated the impact of Readers’ Theater on elementary students’ attitudes toward reading, the teacher’s perception of effectiveness of Readers’ Theater as a tool to improve reading comprehension, and students’ test-related anxiety, within the context of the Mississippi Academic Assessment Program (MAAP) mandated by the Literacy-Based Promotion Act. While existing literature has highlighted Readers’ Theater as an effective instructional strategy that engages reluctant readers and enhances both reading fluency and comprehension through repeated, performance-based readings, gaps in current research exist regarding Readers’ Theater effectiveness as an instructional strategy to mitigate reading- and test-anxiety. Through research questions focused on how …

The Voice Of Gods In Your Ear:: Becoming The Avatar In Immersive Performance, Misha Myers Aug 2025

The Voice Of Gods In Your Ear:: Becoming The Avatar In Immersive Performance, Misha Myers

School of Art, Design and Architecture

This chapter explores how immersion and participation are experienced and conjured through augmented reality (AR) technologies through the case study of the located and augmented reality-enabled performance Nobody’s Ocean. In the performance, audiences navigated the story-world of Homer’s The Odyssey augmented in the streets of Melbourne, Australia, through audio, visual and social media content facilitated by their smartphone. The chapter examines three relationships that distinguish immersion in AR-enabled performance: that between seamlessness and disruption, between place and narrative and between avatars and a sense of located embodiment. Nobody’s Ocean was performed in Melbourne 13-22 October 2016, directed by Misha Myers …

We Are All Old: Decentralising Visions, Hayley Ho, Elsa Vaara Aug 2025

We Are All Old: Decentralising Visions, Hayley Ho, Elsa Vaara

Nordes Conference Series

This paper seeks to understand how a mixed methodology of speculation, design practices, and artistic practices can help design researchers understand how people of different ages and backgrounds may distribute their visions about being old. Our overall motivation for the research is that countries in the world are struggling to shape good societies while the pace of population aging is accelerating faster than in the past. The world’s problems are often perceived as complex, leading some to lose faith in their ability to effect change. Every person is a piece of the larger puzzle, and we argue that when individuals …

Designing Relations All The Way Down: Hyperlocal Eco-Social Arcs Of Care And Roleplay, Ann Light, Ruth Catlow Aug 2025

Designing Relations All The Way Down: Hyperlocal Eco-Social Arcs Of Care And Roleplay, Ann Light, Ruth Catlow

Nordes Conference Series

We use the relational as a lens to examine how a workshop, created to inspire sensitivity to the interdependent nature of all life, is itself a nest of relations—shaped by intentions, co-created content, and outcomes beyond organisers’ influence. With a practical mission to decentre humans and acknowledge interdependencies – in a turn to more-than-human ethics and a commitment to the hyperlocal eco-social – the workshop employs live action roleplay (LARP) to engage a small English town in facing future uncertainties. We explore the place of care, solidarity and collective agency in confronting readiness to deal with coming challenges. Linking theories …

Within My Glass Doors, Natsume Sōseki, Iwao Matsuhara, Edwin T. Iglehart

Zea E-Books Collection

During his last years (1915–1916) Natsume Sōseki was often troubled by the stomach ailment that eventually took his life at age 49. Constrained by his illness to remain at his home in Waseda, a Tokyo suburb, he nevertheless continued to work on his novels and to write columns for publication in the Asahi Shimbun newspaper.
