The process of heritage-making is farfrom straightforward. Defining the meaning of heritage in young nations and citieswhere land availability is limited is a challenging exercise. The purpose of this project is to improve student engagement by focusing on collaborative learning as the primary method of pedagogy. Included within the project is a detailed unit outline, with learning objectives, activities, and assessments included. The lessons include a variety of activities such as group discussions and debates, examining primary sources, group projects, and analyzing political cartoon. All the activities have been modified in order to promote the importance of the collaborative process. A goal of the project is to show how individual activities can be modified to incorporate methodical collaborative learning techniques. The research and literature reviewed …

Educational leaders at the state and district level are struggling to provide adequate funding for schools due to the uncertainty of the economic outlook throughout the country. Although several states have requested and received waivers for the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB), many school systems still find themselves in the difficult position of providing enough instructional time dedicated to the four primary core content areas (language arts, math, science, and social studies) to allow students to be successful in high stakes standardized testing. Pornography use appears to be associated with many psychosocial problems for a subset of pornography users. Previous research indicates constructs such as experiential avoidance and shame-proneness may be related to pornography use. Research also suggests that self-compassion may be helpful in decreasing experiential avoidance, shame, and other predictors of problematic pornography use. To date, no research has been done examining self-compassion in pornography users. This may be an important construct to study in this population because the way people treat themselves during difficult times may be associated with the development of problematic pornography viewing patterns and negative outcomes related to …

While the film serves to inspire, entertain, and inform, the paper dives deeper into the brand-building, cost-savings, and logistics of the trip. In the end, we more than doubled our initial investment and had an awesome time while doing it.

I will argue that a representative group of films including Mr. Lucky (with Cary Grant), Rossellini’s Il Generale della Rovere, and Galaxy Quest affirm an assumption that is as well known as it is offensively false to many: i.e., we acquire a virtue or quality of character by pretending that we already possess it—the ethic colloquially and popularly known as “fake it until you make it.” The importance and power of this ethic, as thoroughly secular as it seems to be, is best understood in the context of its Roman Catholic and ancient philosophical provenance, which for the most part …

Abstract : The processes and rituals of grieving, memorializing and remembering a nation’s war dead are well known, while the project of recovering, concentrating and preparing wartime casualties for burial is less clearly understood. The task of burying the Canadian war dead in the Pacific fell to one individual, former pow, Lt. Col. J.A. Bailie. This paper investigates Bailie’s experience that began with his pow journals and ended with the consecration of the Yokohama and Sai Wan Military Cemeteries in Japan and Hong Kong. The play follows the lives of three white women (Lillian Smith, Paula Snelling, and Carson McCullers) who believed in equality for all. The director, scenic/sound coordinator, and technical director was Nick Hoenshell, stage manager was Allison Angel, dramaturg was Rebecca Weaver, lighting coordinator was Jennifer Luck, graphic design assistant was Meghan Lee, and producer/department head was Randy Blades. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., will share insights from her experience in arts management.
