Our purpose for this project was to explore correlations between music study and health and wellness. Music study involves auditory, mental, physical, and emotional health. It can also cause performance injury. In an effort to reduce performance injuries and encourage good auditory, physical and emotional health in their students, the Music Teacher National Association advocates for wellness, stating that, “music teachers need to become substantially involved in injury prevention by teaching health-conscious music-related practices to students.”

Predicting Stratigraphic Outcrops Using A Lidar Digital Elevation Model In A Karst Landscape, Fort Hood Military Installation, Texas, Keely Armstrong
Undergraduate Research Conference
The Fort Hood Military Installation is a karst landscape characterized by Cretaceous-age limestone plateaus and canyons in Bell and Coryell counties, Texas. The area is located in the Lampasas Cut Plain region of the Edwards Plateau and is stratigraphically defined by exposures of the Fredericksburg Group, namely the Comanche Peak and Edwards carbonates. The topography is dominated by plateaued draining divides capped by the resistant Edwards limestone and bordered by steep scarps exposing alternating layers of the Comanche Peak and Edwards units. This interfingering relationship has created a variable slope along the edges of the plateaus, defined by lithology.

Palestrina’S Polyphony, Dawson Tillman Dowdy
Palestrina’S Polyphony, Dawson Tillman Dowdy
Undergraduate Research Conference
The intention behind my composition (Kyrie) was to emulate Palestrina’s style by following a set of specific guidelines derived from the common characteristics of his compositions. Ultimately, my goal was to craft a piece that served as a 21st century interpretation of Palestrinian polyphony. Although I took some liberties in terms of harmonic language, I ensured that the essential elements of textual clarity, imitation, stepwise motion, and fluid melodic structure were strictly executed.

Mathematics Of The Significant Tornado Parameter, Aaron Baker
Mathematics Of The Significant Tornado Parameter, Aaron Baker
Undergraduate Research Conference
The idea of this project came from my curiosity of weather and especially how severe storms are predicted. There are many parameters used to predict severe weather that use mathematical formulas. After sorting through the parameters, the STP was the one selected due to its use of other parameters for prediction of tornadoes, as well as concepts used in Single and Multi-Variable Calculus, such as areas between curves and vector magnitude and direction, and learning how to use new graphs than what is normally used.

Heteronormative Encouragement And Favoring Gender Roles Within School Systems In The Twenty-First Century, Chloe Rose Gasper
Undergraduate Research Conference
The purpose of this study is to analyze the predilection of heteronormative comportment within various school environments (elementary, intermediate, and high school). The extent of heteronormative encouragement, including favoring gender roles, will be determined through observational study. The psychological occurrences between students and teachers generally shape the perspectives of the pupils. While the curricula determine what the students learn concerning academics, the societal undertones that are implemented by the teachers are what affixes to the psyche of malleable minds. The study consists of three schools - two classes from each grade level of which will be photographed and carefully observed …

Social Issue: Today the elderly represent a growing segment of the population. This has resulted in a number of different controversies, including rising medical costs and end-of-life issues. In recent years, multiple states have passed legislation to provide guidance to the terminally ill regarding end-of-life issues. Oregon has led the way in providing dignified options for terminally ill individuals wishing to end their lives through the use of legal prescription medication. This issue of a 'death with dignity' has been a controversial topic on which individuals have a variety of strongly held views, and we have only just begun to …
