Creating Theatre: Historical Women's Stories For Here And Now, Abby M. Ferree
Creating Theatre: Historical Women's Stories For Here And Now, Abby M. Ferree
Honors Capstones
One of the most instinctual ideals of humanity is the necessity of sharing stories, past or fiction, to inform what we decide to do in the here and now. Storytelling is a part of all of us. It’s innate. As an actor, my role in storytelling is generally to be the sounding piece for the voices of others. I bring to life the story and the life of another person or character in order to bring new questions to light for my audience. However, as an actor, we rarely get to choose what stories are being told, and the gift …

The Role Of The Soldier In Civilian Life: Personal And Social Concerns That Influence Reintegration Processes, Matthew J. Ahlfs
The Role Of The Soldier In Civilian Life: Personal And Social Concerns That Influence Reintegration Processes, Matthew J. Ahlfs
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The intent and direction of this thesis is to recognize personal and social concerns that influence soldiers’ reintegration process. The missing element in current literature is capturing the soldiers’ lived experiences, ideas, perspective and knowledge of what it truly means to be a soldier and having to reintegrate back into the civilian life after being submerged the military culture for an extended period of time. One of the vital concerns to the soldiers is how civilians, specifically the community, politicians, scholars and mental health providers, are not necessary fully aware nor do they recognize the influential impacts of the experiences …

The Gettysburg Compiler: On the Front Lines of History
November 19th saw the anniversary of the Gettysburg Address, and with it, one of the highlights of the year: The annual Fortenbaugh Lecture. The goal of the annual Fortenbaugh lecture is to capture the spirit of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address and make academic history accessible to the general public. This year’s lecturer was Dr. George Rable, Professor Emeritus and formerly the Charles G. Summersell Chair in Southern History at the University of Alabama. Dr. Rable’s reputation as a prolific scholar of the Civil War era is well known, with 6 books to his credit, including Fredericksburg, Fredericksburg! which won the 2003 …

Societal Rebirth: The Importance Of Spirituality, Lauren Rothstein
English Department: Traveling American Modernism Posters (ENG 366, Fall 2018)
The two texts Grapes of Wrath and Black Elk Speaks both include moments of anonymous forces imposing systematic modernization on society. Through the controversial subject of societal rebirths, traditionally defined through employment and steady food source availability. I propose an approach to societal rebirths that emphasizes the importance of spiritual connection to the land through a critical analysis of Bakhtin’s theory of chronotope and Leopold’s theory of land ethic.

The Detrimental Decline Of Creative Dramatists At The Elementary Level, Natalie Teichman
The Detrimental Decline Of Creative Dramatists At The Elementary Level, Natalie Teichman
Student Scholar Symposium Abstracts and Posters
Children are inherently creative and imaginative, constantly inventing games, storylines, and exploring. However, in the current climate defined by a rise in technology that may not be conducive to these instinctive attributes, theatre is an incredibly important medium where children are able to further refine these characteristics. Because of this belief that theatre is important for a child’s development, children’s theatre has become an entity in its own right, used to promote creativity in the lives and minds of children. Unfortunately, children’s theatre is something that is not accessible for enough children. In this paper I discuss numerous sources pertaining …

The Lack Of Female Directors And Artistic Leaders: Discrepancy In The Number Of Women From Theatre Education To Career, Madeline Lang-Ree
Student Scholar Symposium Abstracts and Posters
Recently, society has slowly started to take initiative against the large gender gap that exists in positions of leadership. Though this gender gap stretches across all work fields, the theatre industry is extremely guilty of a lack of female representation in many of its career paths. In both studies and personal experiences, it is repeatedly reported that there are considerably more girls than boys participating in theatre during educational and formative years. Despite this, the number of female directors and artistic leaders in the theatre industry is significantly lower than males. Why is there such a large amount of young …

Humankind has spent its entire history defining and creating the things that make up our physical world. Everyday, humanity continues to discover and create, furthering society’s knowledge and understanding of existence. However, there are facets of nature that have never been entirely understood by mankind, because they have a unique affect on each individual. It is known how a tree manifests and grows but no one can explain the feeling of relief that comes in the shade of a long limbed oak on a cloudless day. Nature is unique in its simplicity and mystery. Artists often use aspects of nature …

Images, Art, And Paraphernalia: Analyzing Tactics Of The United Farm Workers And The Coalition Of Immokalee Workers, Felicia Viano
Student Scholar Symposium Abstracts and Posters
What do grapes and tomatoes have in common? Both of these foods have been or are major points of contention for influential farm worker movements. The United Farm Workers formed by Cesar Chavez, Dolores Huerta, and Gilbert Padilla in 1962 has become a hallmark of success in labor history. This movement used traditional yet innovative methods of social movement strategy, eventually branding themselves as a household name. The images and paraphernalia such as buttons, bumper stickers, and posters distributed during the Delano Grape Strike seemed like a simple concept at the time, but there were strategic decisions made to incorporate …
