Impact By Intention: An Argument For Forensics As A High-Impact Practice, Vincent L. Stephens

This essay locates forensics within national discourse about high-impact practices (HIPs) in higher education, as outlined by scholar George D. Kuh. Forensics shares all the characteristics associated with the ten promising practices Kuh (2008) outlined initially. Though Kuh's original overview and expanded list of practices (Kuh, 2016) serve as reference points for addressing HIPs, forensics has not been recognized as a HIP. The essay argues that framing forensics as a HIP could enrich advocacy efforts to start and/or sustain current forensics programs. Understanding the impact that human development has on wildlife populations is essential to preserving biodiversity. Bird populations are a good indicator of anthropogenic threats because they are sensitive to environmental change. Window strikes are a major source of mortality for bird populations. Studies have begun to monitor factors that cause window strikes and estimate the amount of birds killed annually by strikes. However, these estimates can be greatly affected by site dependent variables and scavenging of carcasses. My study addresses this issue by answering four questions: First, how many birds are killed annually on campus? Second, what factors complicate making …

This paper explores the relationship between early career teachers’ (ECTs) work identities, neoliberal education assemblages, and mandated professional standards. The task of supporting and retaining beginning teachers has received considerable attention in recent years in the face of alarming rates of teacher attrition internationally. The study, undertaken in Western Australia, explores how ECTs construct identities in response to competitive educational discourses, high levels of individual stress, insecure employment, excessive work-loads and limited formal support. The Australian Professional Standards are an example of ‘organisational learning’ that aims to support ECTs. However, our research suggests that in practice a managerial ‘tick the …

Alex Klein is one of the best-known figures of the American oboe school. He is the winner of multiple international competitions, including the first prize at the Geneva’s Concours International d’Execution Musicale. Appointed principal oboe at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in 1995, Klein is one of the most highly regarded musicians hired during the Barenboim era. His recording of Richard Strauss’ oboe concerto with the CSO was awarded Best Instrumental Soloist Performance (with Orchestra) at the 44th Grammy Awards. Louise of Meckelburg-Strelitz was born on March 10, 1776 and died just thirty-four years later. In her short time as the queen consort of Prussia, she would give birth to nine children, command her own dragoons, negotiate with Napoleon, and eventually become a complex and celebrated German historical figure. Immensely popular in life, her early death was considered a national tragedy, and commemorations of her life only solidified her role as a new type of Prussian queen. This symposium piece addresses three issues stemming from the Court’s Masterpiece Cakeshop case and that case’s relationship to West Virginia v. Barnette. First, it discusses the relationship between claims for exemption from laws of general applicability and as-applied claims. Second, it addresses the issue most discussed in the Cakeshop briefs and oral argument, but not ultimately resolved by the Court: what counts as compelled speech in the setting of provision of services such as custom-made wedding cakes? This study examines communication as instructional classroom practice and considers its increased inclusion in teacher preparation programs. While widely recognized as an important aspect of most university degree programs, communication pedagogy is often overlooked in schools of education curricula. Data collected from six current teachers suggest that the teachers demonstrated a value for instructional communication in three distinct ways that can all be attributed to their interaction with their students and classrooms. This study theorizes the world building processes that sequence fiction engages within a framework of intratextual structuralism and cognitive aesthetic stage theory. The study begins with an interdisciplinary overview of fictional and possible worlds theory before proposing a structural adaptation of this lens that explains the developmental, aesthetic benefits of the genre for young readers. Chapter II is an application of the adapted lens to a canonical epic, the His Dark Materials sequence by Philip Pullman. The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) has had significant influence on both for-profit and nonprofit employers since it was enacted in 1993. Because nonprofit organizations often have more limited resources than for-profit organizations, implementing family and medical leave policy mandates can be problematic. Arts-related nonprofit organizations often have even fewer resources available yet must still ensure legal compliance and market competitiveness while continuing to focus on meeting their missions. Empathy skills are necessary to form therapeutic relationships. Previous research showed that participating in the arts engaged similar neuropathways as those needed to produce empathy. The theoretical framework for this study was art therapy relational neuroscience. The purpose of this pretest, posttest quantitative research study, using the Toronto Empathy Questionnaire, was to examine if a single art session could effectively prime for empathy. Using nonprobability, convenience sampling method, 74 graduate counseling students completed online surveys. Four findings are of note: (a) a t-test showed a significant difference between mean values of pre-post test scores, (b) an independent groups t-test indicated …

Over the past few years, Janet Halley emerged as one of the most avid critics of campus rape feminist activists, activists who push for the reformulation of university investigative rules to shift the burden of proof from the accuser to the accused. Halley contends that Title IX policies, embedded with affirmative consent, are not only procedurally unsound, but bad for boys, bad for sex, and bad for feminism, charging its agenda with “radical feminism” influences. วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ 1) ศึกษาวิวัฒนาการละครในตั้งแต่อดีตจนถึงปัจจุบัน 2) ศึกษารูปแบบการแสดงละครใน เรื่อง อิเหนา ยุคกรุงรัตนโกสินทร์ โดยใช้วิธีการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ ซึ่งผู้วิจัยศึกษาข้อมูลจากเอกสารที่เกี่ยวข้อง สื่อวีดิทัศน์ การสัมภาษณ์ผู้เชี่ยวชาญ การสังเกตวิธีการแสดงละครใน โดยมีขอบเขตของการศึกษา คือ 1) ศึกษาประวัติความเป็นมาและวิวัฒนาการที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการแสดงละครในตั้งแต่สมัยกรุงศรีอยุธยาจนถึงกรุงรัตนโกสินทร์ 2) ศึกษาลักษณะการแสดงละครในแบบหลวงเรื่องอิเหนา ซึ่งถ่ายทอดจากอดีตจนถึงปี พ.ศ. 2559 ที่ปรากฏในการแสดงของสถาบันบัณฑิตพัฒนศิลป์และกรมศิลปากร กระทรวงวัฒนธรรม ผลการวิจัยพบว่า คำเรียก“ละครใน"ปรากฏหลักฐานในสมัยกรุงรัตนโกสินทร์ แต่เดิมจะเรียกชื่อต่างกันไป ทั้งคำว่า ละครในบริรักษ์จักรี, ละครหลวง, ละครผู้หญิง, ละครข้างใน แต่มีความหมายเดียวกัน คือ หมายถึงละครผู้หญิงที่ใช้นางในราชสำนักมาฝึกหัดเป็นผู้แสดงและอยู่ในความอุปถัมภ์ของพระมหากษัตริย์ หลักฐานที่เกี่ยวกับละครในพบครั้งแรกในสมัยกรุงศรีอยุธยาจากบุณโณวาทคำฉันท์ โดยกล่าวถึงการแสดงละครในเรื่องอนิรุทธและอิเหนาซึ่งเป็นละครในบริรักษจักรี แปลว่าละครของพระมหากษัตริย์ เมื่อกรุงศรีอยุธยาต้องเสียแก่พม่าในปี พ.ศ.2310 ส่งผลให้ละครของหลวงต้องแพร่กระจายไปที่ต่างๆ บางส่วนได้ถูกกวาดต้อนไปยังประเทศพม่าจนเกิดรูปแบบละครโยเดีย ครั้นสมัยกรุงธนบุรีละครในจะเรียกว่าละครผู้หญิงซึ่งมีทั้งของหลวงและของเจ้านครฯ โดยได้รับพระบรมราชานุญาตจากสมเด็จพระเจ้าตากสิน สมัยกรุงรัตนโกสินทร์รูปแบบละครในมีรูปแบบเปลี่ยนแปลงไปหลายสิ่งที่เห็นได้ชัดคือในสมัยรัชกาลที่ 1 อันเป็นยุคฟื้นฟูบ้านเมืองรวมไปถึงงานศิลปะอย่างละครใน ได้มีการรวบรวมจัดทำ“ตำรารำ"ที่มีมาแต่ครั้งกรุงศรีอยุธยาเพื่อให้เป็นสมบัติชาติ ครั้นถึงรัชกาลที่ 2 ได้มีการพระราชนิพนธ์บทละครขึ้นใหม่เพื่อใช้สำหรับเล่นละครใน โดยทำการซ้อมและปรับปรุงกระบวนท่ารำให้สอดคล้องกลมกลืน ตัวละครหลวงในยุคนี้ได้เป็นครูละครให้คณะต่างๆในชั้นหลัง ส่งผลให้รูปแบบละครในยุคนี้ได้เป็นแบบอย่างละครรำในระยะต่อมา ต่อมาใน สมัยรัชกาลที่ 4 ได้มีการยกเลิกข้อห้ามเกี่ยวกับละครใน ทำให้ผู้มีบรรดาศักดิ์พากันมีละครตามแบบอย่างของหลวง จะเห็นได้ว่า สิ่งสำคัญที่ส่งผลต่อวิวัฒนาการละครใน คือ นโยบายและรสนิยมของพระมหากษัตริย์หรือผู้นำในแต่ละยุค รวมทั้งป๎จจัยภายนอกทั้งอิทธิพลต่างชาติ สภาพเศรษฐกิจและสังคมในแต่ละยุคสมัย รูปแบบของละครในแบบดั้งเดิมนับเป็นรากฐานที่พัฒนาและก่อให้เกิดปริวรรตไปสู่รูปแบบการแสดงละครในยุคต่อมาอย่างละครดึกดำบรรพ์ อีกทั้งยังต่อยอดไปถึงการสร้างสรรค์งานนาฏยจารีตต่างๆดังเช่นในป๎จจุบันอีกด้วย

วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้ มีวัตถุประสงค์ในการศึกษาดังนี้ 1) เพื่อศึกษาพัฒนาการการวิจารณ์นาฏกรรมในประเทศไทย 2) เพื่อศึกษาพระอัจฉริยภาพด้านการวิจารณ์นาฏกรรมของพระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว โดยพิจารณาการวิจารณ์นาฏกรรมทั้งที่เป็นบทวิจารณ์และการสร้างสรรค์นาฏกรรมในฐานะการวิจารณ์ ภายใต้กรอบแนวคิดประวัติศาสตร์นิยมใหม่ ผลการศึกษาพบว่า พัฒนาการการวิจารณ์นาฏกรรมในประเทศไทยในสมัยรัตนโกสินทร์พบว่า เดิมการวิจารณ์ของไทยปรากฏในการสร้างสรรค์นาฏกรรมเพื่อวิพากษ์วิจารณ์บุคคลและปรากฏการณ์ทางสังคมหรือผลงานสร้างสรรค์ของผู้อื่น มักใช้ลีลายั่วล้อ ต่อมาการปฏิรูปการศึกษาของไทยทำให้คนไทยรู้จักการวิจารณ์ในวัฒนธรรมลายลักษณ์โดยได้รับอิทธิพลจากตะวันตกทำให้เกิดการเขียนบทวิจารณ์นาฏกรรมขึ้น เริ่มจากการสื่อระหว่างบุคคลจนพัฒนาไปสู่การเขียนบทวิจารณ์ในสื่อสาธารณะ ในระยะต้นปรากฏในสื่อสิ่งพิมพ์เป็นหลักและค่อยๆ เสื่อมความนิยมลง ปัจจุบันการเขียนบทวิจารณ์ปรากฏในสื่อใหม่มากขึ้น นอกจากนั้นลักษณะการวิจารณ์ยังปรากฏในการมอบรางวัล การประกวดแข่งขัน การกำหนดกฎเกณฑ์ในหลักสูตรและการประเมินคุณวุฒิของบุคลาการในวงการศึกษา ในด้านพระอัจริยภาพด้านการวิจารณ์นาฏกรรมของพระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว ปรากฏ 2 สถานะ ได้แก่ 1) บทบาทผู้เขียนบทวิจารณ์ 2) บทบาทผู้สร้างสรรค์ผลงานในฐานะการวิจารณ์ พระราชวิจารณ์ของพระองค์อาจเป็นต้นเค้าของการเขียนบทวิจารณ์ในสื่อสาธารณะ มีส่วนช่วยให้เกิดความรู้ความเข้าใจนาฏกรรมทั้งของไทยและของเทศแก่พสกนิกร พระองค์ทรงเป็นผู้หนึ่งที่ริเริ่มการสร้างสรรค์ผลงานแนวใหม่ในลักษณะผสมผสานระหว่างนาฏกรรมแนวเดิมและนาฏกรรมแบบตะวันตก ทรงใช้ผลงานของพระองค์ในการวิพากษ์บุคคล เหตุการณ์สำคัญ มักใช้ลีลายั่วล้อเสียดสีเพื่อสร้างความขบขันและลดความรุนแรงในการวิจารณ์ นับเป็นความพยายามของชนชั้นนำสยามในยุคนั้นที่ประสงค์จะสร้างมาตรฐานใหม่แก่วงการนาฏกรรมไทยที่เน้นการนำเสนอสาระควบคู่กับความบันเทิง บทบาทการวิจารณ์นาฏกรรมของพระองค์นับเป็นช่วงหัวเลี้ยวหัวต่อที่มีความสำคัญยิ่งต่อทิศทางการสร้างและการเสพนาฏกรรมไทยในระยะต่อมา

To estimate the magnitude of the association between parent and peer influences on adolescent smoking as non-; light-; and heavy current smokers. By using data from 18,912 adolescents, ages from 13 to 15 years, from two years 2007 and 2014 of the Global Youth Tobacco Survey in Vietnam, were selected for these analyses. Data collected included measures for the smoking status of the adolescent and their parents and friends. Descriptive analysis was used to describe the characteristics of each individual variable. วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้ศึกษาเรื่องยุคทองของนาฏยศิลป์ไทยร่วมสมัยในประเทศไทย มีวัตถุประสงค์คือ เพื่อศึกษา วิเคราะห์ ค้นหายุคทอง แนวความคิด และรูปแบบการสร้างสรรค์งานนาฏยศิลป์ไทยร่วมสมัยที่เกิดขึ้นในประเทศไทย ในช่วง พ.ศ. 2530 – 2560 และเพื่อศึกษาผลกระทบทางบริบทในสังคมและวัฒนธรรมต่องานนาฏยศิลป์ไทยร่วมสมัย เป็นการศึกษาและใช้ระเบียบวิธีวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ โดยใช้เครื่องมือในการวิจัย คือ การสำรวจข้อมูลเชิงเอกสาร การสัมภาษณ์ผู้เชี่ยวชาญ การสัมมนา สื่อสารสนเทศอื่น ๆ และการสำรวจข้อมูลภาคสนาม โดยนำข้อมูลที่ได้มาศึกษา วิเคราะห์สังเคราะห์ให้ได้มาซึ่งผลของการวิจัย และสรุปผลตามลำดับ ผลการวิจัยพบว่า ยุคทองของนาฏยศิลป์ไทยร่วมสมัยในประเทศไทย อยู่ในช่วงปี พ.ศ.2536 – 2550 แนวความคิดของงานนาฏยศิลป์ไทยร่วมสมัยเกิดขึ้นในประเทศไทย คือ 1) แนวคิดการสร้างสรรค์งานจากบทวรรณกรรมเดิมในรูปแบบใหม่ 2) แนวคิดในการนำวัฒนธรรมที่หลากหลายมาประยุกต์ใช้กับวัฒนธรรมดั้งเดิม 3) แนวคิดเชิงสัญลักษณ์ 4) แนวคิดการเต้นเฉพาะที่ 5) แนวคิดการแสดงที่สะท้อนปัญหาต่าง ๆ ที่เกิดขึ้นภายในโลก 6) แนวคิดการแสดงดั้งเดิมของอาเซียนผ่านมุมมองของศิลปะร่วมสมัย 7) แนวคิดลีลาแบบธรรมชาติ 8) แนวคิดการด้นสด 9) แนวคิดการมีส่วนร่วม และใส่ใจของชุมชน 10) แนวคิดการออกแบบลีลานาฏยศิลป์ไม่ระบุเพศ 11) แนวคิดการแสดงที่อาศัย องค์ความรู้ที่หลากหลายมากกว่าองค์ความรู้ 12) แนวคิดการสร้างสรรค์งานด้วยคุณธรรมและจริยธรรม โดยมีรูปแบบของงานนาฏยศิลป์ไทยร่วมสมัยที่นำเสนอแนวคิดออกมาเห็นเชิงประจักษ์ มีความแตกต่างจากรูปแบบของงานนาฏยศิลป์ไทยที่มีจารีต และกรอบของรูปแบบการแสดงอย่างชัดเจนผลกระทบที่เกิดจากบริบททางสังคมและวัฒนธรรมที่เกิดขึ้นต่องานนาฏยศิลป์ไทยร่วมสมัย ได้ปรากฏขึ้น 7 ประเด็นคือ 1) การเมือง การปกครอง และนโยบายด้านการบริหารงานวัฒนธรรมของภาครัฐ 2) การศึกษาทางนาฏยศิลป์ 3) การสร้างสรรค์และการแข่งขันทางนาฏยศิลป์ 4) การประกอบธุรกิจทางนาฏยศิลป์ 5) ศิลปะการแสดงละครเวทีในประเทศไทย 6) ศิลปะตะวันตกและศิลปะร่วมสมัยในประเทศไทย 7) ดนตรีไทยร่วมสมัยในประเทศไทย ผลการวิจัยนี้ทำให้ผู้วิจัยได้พบองค์ความรู้ตรงตามวัตถุประสงค์ทุกประการ

งานวิจัยเรื่องความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างการใช้พื้นที่กับการแสดง มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาความหลากหลายของสถานที่เพื่อการแสดงและศึกษาความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างการใช้สถานที่แสดงกับรูปแบบนาฏยศิลป์ มีวิธีการดำเนินงานวิจัยแบบผสมผสานระหว่างการเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลทางเอกสาร การลงพื้นที่ภาคสนามและการสัมภาษณ์ ขอบเขตการศึกษามุ่งเน้นศึกษาความหลากหลายของการใช้สถานที่เพื่อการแสดงตั้งแต่อดีตจนถึง พ.ศ.2562 และศึกษาความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างการใช้สถานที่แสดงกับรูปแบบการแสดงนาฏยศิลป์ไทย ผลการวิจัยพบว่า การใช้สถานที่เพื่อการแสดงนาฏยศิลป์นั้นมีความหลากหลาย ผู้วิจัยได้จำแนกประเภทสถานที่จากสภาพแวดล้อมของสถานที่ในแต่ละแห่ง สามารถจำแนกได้เป็น 9 ประเภท คือประเภทลาน ประเภทลู่ ประเภทโบราณสถาน ประเภทแหล่งธรรมชาติ ประเภทยานพาหนะ ประเภทอาคารสาธารณะ ประเภทบ้านเรือน ประเภทสระน้ำ และประเภทผสมผสาน สถานที่ในแต่ละแห่งมีข้อจำกัดในการใช้พื้นที่ที่ต่างกัน บางสถานที่ต้องมีการปรับเปลี่ยน แก้ไข การใช้พื้นที่ให้เหมาะสมกับการแสดง ศิลปินและผู้สร้างสรรค์ผลงานจึงจำเป็นต้องศึกษาถึงความสัมพันธ์เรื่องการใช้พื้นที่ให้เหมาะสมกับสถานที่และการแสดง เกี่ยวกับปัจจัยด้านสภาพแวดล้อมของสถานที่ ปัจจัยเรื่องรูปแบบการแสดง องค์ประกอบในการแสดง กระบวนการแสดง ข้อกำหนดบังคับในการแสดง โอกาสในการแสดง และการใช้พื้นที่ในการแสดง เพราะการแสดงนาฏยศิลป์แต่ละรูปแบบมักจะมีธรรมเนียมทางการแสดงเป็นของตนเอง จึงมีพื้นที่สำหรับการแสดงและพื้นที่ใช้สอยตลอดจนการจัดวางของอุปกรณ์การแสดงในแต่ละรูปแบบที่ต่างกัน ทำให้รูปแบบ ขนาด และลักษณะของสถานที่เพื่อการแสดงแต่ละประเภทแตกต่างกันด้วย สถานที่แสดงและการแสดงนาฏยศิลป์นั้นจึงจำเป็นจะต้องมีความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างกันเพื่อทำให้การแสดงในแต่ละรูปแบบนั้นเกิดความสมบูรณ์มากที่สุด

วิทยานิพนธ์นี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษารูปแบบการประกวดวงกลองยาวโดยกรมส่งเสริมวัฒนธรรมและรูปแบบการออกแบบสร้างสรรค์การแสดงกลองยาวรูปแบบใหม่จากวงกลองยาวที่เข้าร่วมแข่งขัน โดยการสืบค้นข้อมูลจากหนังสือ เอกสาร และวิจัยที่เกี่ยวข้อง รวมถึงการสัมภาษณ์ผู้เชี่ยวชาญ ผู้เกี่ยวข้องและการสังเกตการณ์จากวีดิทัศน์การแสดงกลองยาวจากวงที่ผู้วิจัยทำการศึกษาจำนวน 2 วง ได้แก่ วงเอกทันต์รางวัลชนะเลิศปี พ.ศ. 2552 และ พ.ศ. 2554 และวงศิวบุตรรางวัลชนะเลิศปี พ.ศ.2557 ผู้วิจัยพบว่า การจัดการประกวดวงกลองยาวโดยกรมส่งเสริมวัฒนธรรม เป็นการประกวดในรูปแบบของการอนุรักษ์และพัฒนา โดยวงที่เข้าร่วมการประกวดจะต้องสร้างสรรค์การแสดงขึ้นใหม่ ส่งผลให้เกิดการสร้างเอกลักษณ์เฉพาะตัวของแต่ละวง เป็นการพัฒนารูปแบบการแสดงจากการรำกลองยาวแบบมาตรฐานที่มีแต่เดิม จากการศึกษารูปแบบการแสดงของวงกลองยาววงเอกทันต์และวงศิวบุตรพบว่า ได้มีการนำรูปแบบการสร้างสรรค์ที่ยังคงไว้ซึ่งอัตลักษณ์ของการรำเถิดเทิงของกรมศิลปากร โดยมีรูปแบบที่โดดเด่นและแปลกใหม่ ดังนี้ 1. การใช้ชื่อวงในการประพันธ์บทร้องเพื่อแสดงเอกลักษณ์และเป็นที่จดจำต่อผู้ชม 2. มีการต่อตัวและการตีลังกาในการแสดง 3. ใช้ลีลาท่ารำเป็นการผสมผสานของการแสดงในภาคกลางหลายประเภท ได้แก่ รำกลองยาวชาวบ้าน รำเถิดเทิง รำแม่บทเล็ก รำแม่บทใหญ่ การละเล่นลาวกระทบไม้และรำวงมาตรฐาน 4. การใช้รูปแบบการแปรแถวหลักที่พบ 9 แบบ ได้แก่ แถวตอน แถววงกลม แถวปากพนัง แถวหน้ากระดาน แถวครึ่งวงกลม แถวเฉียง แถวตัวเอ (A) แถวตัวดับเบิลยู (W) และแถวตั้งซุ้ม มาสร้างสรรค์เพิ่มเติมโดยการผสมผสานกันทำให้เกิดรูปแบบแถวใหม่ที่แตกต่างไปจากเดิม งานวิจัยนี้สามารถใช้เป็นแนวทางในการสร้างสรรค์การแสดงกลองยาวเพื่อการประกวด อีกทั้งยังเป็นการกระตุ้นให้ประชาชนหรือกลุ่มคนที่สนใจแข่งขันกลองยาวมีความคิดสร้างสรรค์ในการพัฒนารูปแบบการแสดงกลองยาวต่อไปอนาคต
