Alaskkka - The Invisible Empire In The Last Frontier: A Look Into The 1920s Klan Of The North, Elizabeth Kell, Kevin Allen

When discussing hate groups in North America, few evoke as immediate and visceral a reaction as the Ku Klux Klan. Often regarded as a symbol of radical white supremacist ideology, the Klan is widely associated with the American South; its white hoods, burning crosses, and Confederate flags have become enduring emblems of racial hatred and extremist nationalism. While many assume the Klan's influence was confined to Southern states, the reality is far more expansive and troubling. During its resurgence in the 1920s, the Ku Klux Klan extended its reach well beyond its traditional strongholds, gaining footholds in states such as …
Understanding The Musical Theatre Female Mixed Belt Through The Lens Of The Operatic Tenor: A Comparative Study, Courtney Schwalbe
Understanding The Musical Theatre Female Mixed Belt Through The Lens Of The Operatic Tenor: A Comparative Study, Courtney Schwalbe
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
Since its emergence in the early 20th century, the female belt voice has become central to musical theatre, yet it still receives less systematic attention than classical singing in both scholarship and collegiate pedagogy. This document frames the contemporary female belt, especially the high or mixed belt, in dialogue with the Western operatic tenor to demystify belt production for teachers trained in classical vocal pedagogy. Drawing on historical context, voice science, and applied pedagogy, the study compares defining characteristics, vocal challenges, registration, and resonance strategies across the two traditions. Both voices extend chest-dominant qualities above the primary register transition and …

Tension Pneumothorax With Massive Subcutaneous Emphysema And The Battle For Airway Control, Parul Issar, Farha Imam, Ashesh Bhushan, Bhupendra Chaudhary
Asian Medical Journal and Alternative Medicine
We report a case of a 55-years-old man with tension pneumothorax and extensive subcutaneous emphysema. He had cardiac arrest on arrival due to severe upper airway obstruction. During the CPR, airway management became extremely challenging due to severe upper airway emphysema. Common conventional airway techniques failed due to distorted airway anatomy. A quick surgical airway (percutaneous tracheostomy) saved his life. He was discharged home without any neurological deficit.

A Cross-Sectional Study On Patient Safety Attitudes And Their Determinants Among Medical Staff In Malaysian Public Specialist Hospitals, Sharifah Balqis Sayed Abdul Hamid, Aniza Ismail, Saperi Sulong
Makara Journal of Health Research
Introduction: This study aimed to assess the baseline level and mean scores of patient safety attitude domains among doctors and nurses in Malaysian public hospitals and to identify determinants associated with these attitudes across six domains: teamwork, safety climate, working conditions, job satisfaction, stress recognition, and perception of management.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using the Safety Attitudes Questionnaire (SAQ) among 142 doctors and 231 nurses from three public tertiary hospitals. Participants were selected through proportionate stratified random sampling. Data were analyzed using descriptive, bivariate, and multivariate methods.
Results: The study achieved an 81% response rate. …
Comparative Study Of Vocal Pedagogy Systems In South Korea And The United States: Developmental Strategies For Classical Voice Education In South Korea, Dongmin Byeon
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
This dissertation presents a comparative study of vocal pedagogy systems in South Korea and the United States, with the aim of identifying deficiencies in Korean higher education and proposing strategies for reform. While South Korean university voice programs are deeply rooted in the traditional master–apprentice model and rely heavily on anecdotal teaching methods, U.S. institutions have developed structured, evidence-based pedagogical frameworks informed by anatomy, physiology, acoustics, and voice science. This research explores the historical evolution of vocal pedagogy in both countries, highlighting how traditional practices in Korea, though culturally significant, have not sufficiently adapted to contemporary scientific standards.

Liminal Arts And Business: An Autoethnographic Analysis Of A New Arts Venture In An Entrepreneurial Startup Accelerator Program, Jill Schinberg, Rebecca A. Ferrell, Dan Sandfelder
Journal of Arts Entrepreneurship Education
In this study, we explored the intersection of performing arts and entrepreneurship through an autoethnographic study of a new arts venture, theLAB*, which participated in the Von Allmen Center for Entrepreneurship's accelerator program at the University of Kentucky. In creating theLAB*, we investigated the feasibility of establishing a dance-forward performing arts presenting organization within a profit-driven entrepreneurial ecosystem. As a multi-generational team of arts managers, we analyzed the experience utilizing scenario-planning and the DIEP (Describe, Interpret, Evaluate, Plan) model of reflection to assess the challenges and benefits of participating in this environment. Key findings reveal a significant disconnect between the …

The Box Office Keeps Disappointing. Indie Movie Theaters Keep Selling Tickets Anyway., Ella Feldman
Capstones
It’s been a tough five years at the box office, which has yet to recover from the impact of COVID-19 and the explosion of streaming options. But across the country, independent movie theaters have managed to buck the trend, according to industry data and interviews with theater operators. This feature story explores how indie cinemas have staged their post-pandemic comebacks.
Corporeality In Choral Sound: Elements Of Consonant Diction Shaping Pre-Expressive Presence, Perceived Clarity, And Expression In English-Language Choral Music, Addison Walton
Dissertations, 2020-current
The genesis of this project stems from a lived experience performing with a professional choir, whose sung physical shaping of the English language—its crystalline clarity, profound expressivity, and the pre-expressive elements inherent in the delivery—was deeply and viscerally compelling. This overwhelming reaction was in response to their bodies; specifically, the sound their bodies produced that evoked a sense of corporeality, or tangible bodily presence. There was beauty to be found in the way their mouths physically formed the language, both within and removed from the semantic context.
This study sought to acknowledge those fleeting, pre-expressive moments in choral music and …
