Stylistic Classification Of The English Vocabulary. Special Colloquial Vocabulary, Khayrulla Jumanazarov, Zokhid Mamaziyayev Jan 2022

Stylistic Classification Of The English Vocabulary. Special Colloquial Vocabulary, Khayrulla Jumanazarov, Zokhid Mamaziyayev

Mental Enlightenment Scientific-Methodological Journal

This scientific thesis deals with the special colloquial vocabulary. Colloquial words are always more emotionally colored that literary ones. The neutral stratum of words, as het term itself implies, has no degree of emotiveness, nor have they any distinctions in the sphere of usage. Both literary and colloquial words have their upper and lower ranges. The lower range of literary words approaches the neutral layer and has a markedly obvious tendency to pass into that layer. The same may be said of the upper range of the colloquial layer: it can very easily pass into the neutral layer.

Visions For Japanese Society: An Examination Of Japanese Postwar Occupation Period Film, Kaitlin Smith, Michael Gibbs Jan 2022

Visions For Japanese Society: An Examination Of Japanese Postwar Occupation Period Film, Kaitlin Smith, Michael Gibbs

DU Undergraduate Research Journal Archive

By following the films of directors Akira Kurosawa ( 黒澤明), Yasujiro Ozu ( 小津安二郎), Masaki Kobayashi (小林正樹), and Shohei Imamura (今村昌平) around occupation period Japan, unified visions for Japanese society are formed as it transitions from wartime into the postwar era. Each of these films conveys a sense of rapid change in society, external pressures and foreign influence, a daily struggle, and immediate postwar suffering. Not only can these films be seen across a wide variety of styles, but they also each approach these issues with immediacy and show tentative outlooks for how Japan functioned and felt for most people …

Award-Wining Playwright Bess Welden Amplifies Marginalized Voices, Laura Meader

Colby Magazine

As playwright Bess Welden followed stories filed by her sister-in-law, a photojournalist covering the 2015 migrant crisis in Greece, she was captivated by a photo of an unaccompanied minor. She wondered how anyone could keep an emotional distance from a child like this.

Otitis Media Practice During The Covid-19 Pandemic., Tal Marom, Jacob Pitaro, Udayan Shah, Sara Torretta, Paola Marchisio, Ayan Kumar, Patrick Barth, Sharon Ovnat Tamir

Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery Faculty Papers

The global coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has changed the prevalence and management of many pediatric infectious diseases, including acute otitis media (AOM). Coronaviruses are a group of RNA viruses that cause respiratory tract infections in humans. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, coronavirus serotypes OC43, 229E, HKU1, and NL63 were infrequently detected in middle ear fluid (MEF) specimens and nasopharyngeal aspirates in children with AOM during the 1990s and 2000s and were associated with a mild course of the disease. At times when CoV was detected in OM cases, the overall viral load was relatively low. The new severe acute respiratory syndrome …

Two, Pair: A Modern Menaechmi, Jacob L. Horn

Theses and Dissertations

Combining tools of faithful translation and liberal adaptation, I have modernized Plautus’s Menaechmi with the aim of recreating the spirit of Plautine comedy for a present-day viewer, focusing on playability. This dramaturgical process is documented in an introductory essay and text annotations, revealing key choices, theoretical considerations, and conceptual concerns.

Rewriting And Retranslation In Fernando Arrabal’S Exiled Cinematic Memory, John D. Sanderson Jan 2022

Rewriting And Retranslation In Fernando Arrabal’S Exiled Cinematic Memory, John D. Sanderson

Living in Languages

The rejection suffered in Spain by Fernando Arrabal’s cinematography, specifically by his films dealing with the Spanish Civil War, Viva la muerte (1971) and L’arbre de Guernica (1975), stands in contrast with the international appraisal received in France or the United States. The Spanish playwright and filmmaker, exiled in France since 1955, confronted with his cinematic memory the established historical master narrative in Spain both during Franco’s dictatorship and the newly born democracy, and experienced accordingly a fierce national critical backlash.

The fact that Arrabal wrote both film scripts in Spanish, based on his previous literary and theatrical work, had …

Delivery Room St Segment Analysis To Predict Short Term Outcomes In Near-Term And Term Newborns, Jørgen Linde, Anne Lee Solevåg, Joar Eilevstjønn, Ladislaus Blacy, Hussein Kidanto, Hege Ersdal, Claus Klingenberg Jan 2022

Delivery Room St Segment Analysis To Predict Short Term Outcomes In Near-Term And Term Newborns, Jørgen Linde, Anne Lee Solevåg, Joar Eilevstjønn, Ladislaus Blacy, Hussein Kidanto, Hege Ersdal, Claus Klingenberg

Faculty of Health Sciences, East Africa

Background:

ST-segment changes to the fetal electrocardiogram (ECG) may indicate fetal acidosis. No large-scale characterization of ECG morphology immediately after birth has been performed, but ECG is used for heart rate (HR) assessment. We aimed to investigate ECG morphology immediately after birth in asphyxiated infants, using one-lead dry-electrode ECG developed for HR measurement.

Methods:

Observational study in Tanzania, between 2013–2018. Near-term and term infants that received bag-mask ventilation (BMV), and healthy controls, were monitored with one-lead dry-electrode ECG with a non-diagnostic bandwidth. ECGs were classified as normal, with ST-elevations or other ST-segment abnormalities including a biphasic ST-segment. We analyzed ECG …

Doing Contextual Theology: Standing Meditation As An Instrument For Missionary Evangelization In Today’S Vietnam, Nguyen Huy Quyen Jan 2022

Doing Contextual Theology: Standing Meditation As An Instrument For Missionary Evangelization In Today’S Vietnam, Nguyen Huy Quyen

Loyola Papers

This paper is an analysis of what has become a distinctly Vietnamese Lenten popular devotion first introduced by the French Jesuit, Fr. Alexandre de Rhodes, in the 17 th century. It highlights the important qualities of “standing meditation” and its great potential in evangelizing the people of Vietnam. What seems initially as a very external or even theatrical activity emerges as a concrete way of internalizing faith and empowering believers to imitate Christ’s self-giving love, as told in the very colorful and compelling narration of his Passion and Death. Moreover, the paper underscores the contribution of “standing meditation,” both actual …

Philippine Pastoral Implications Of Pope Francis’ Vision Of Youth Evangelization, Edrylle C. Dayrit Jan 2022

Philippine Pastoral Implications Of Pope Francis’ Vision Of Youth Evangelization, Edrylle C. Dayrit

Loyola Papers

The article gathers five key themes from the Pope’s teachings, applies them specifically to youth evangelization, and underlines their pastoral implication: (1) the missionary mode of evangelizing, (2) the agents of youth evangelization, (3) synodality and accompaniment, (4) the culture of encounter, (5) and the joy of the Gospel. Drawing mainly from the seminal document Evangelii Gaudium and the Pope’s Exhortation to and on the Youth, Christus Vivit, the author offers a practical synthesis of the Pontiff’s vision of evangelization - which is not necessarily limited to youth ministry - and identifies its essential features that aim to bring out …

The Psychological Impact Of Sharps Injuries Sustained By Medical Students, Kevin Hambridge Jan 2022

The Psychological Impact Of Sharps Injuries Sustained By Medical Students, Kevin Hambridge

School of Nursing and Midwifery

Much is known and reported about sharps injuries among healthcare workers, but there has been a lack of published evidence regarding the psychological impact of sharps injuries among medical students. The purpose of this narrative review was to discover the psychological impact of sharps injuries within the medical student population. Medical, health and psychology databases were searched for studies written in the English language and published between 1980 and 2021. The review identified six studies conducted in six countries which described the psychological impacts of sharps injuries among medical students as being fear, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. The …

Rural And Regional Arts Organizations, Elise Lael Kieffer Jan 2022

Rural And Regional Arts Organizations, Elise Lael Kieffer

Faculty & Staff Research and Creative Activity

This chapter presents the arts operating in two specific regions. Where arts organizations are located informs the political climate in which they work, their methods, and their constituency. The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) was founded by an act of congress in 1965 and is tasked with five key goals. These goals include increasing economic opportunities within the region, improving workforce readiness, developing and maintaining critical infrastructure, utilizing and leveraging natural and cultural assets within the region, and developing leadership and community capacity (ARC, 2019). This area is defined by persistent poverty and reduced economic opportunity. Local issues are, in fact, …

Osha, Ada, And Other Government Mandates, Elise Lael Kieffer

Faculty & Staff Research and Creative Activity

In chapter fourteen the exploration is focused on governmental mandates, laws, rules and regulations. In contrast, policies and procedures within the organization are also covered. The discussion then centers on the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), how the administration works, how one must and can follow OSHA mandates, and how penalties can be assessed if OSHA rules are not followed. Finally, the chapter concludes with a lengthy discussion of the physical requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act, who must comply, and how one can do so.

Impenetrable Interiority, Ilima Lewis Jan 2022

Impenetrable Interiority, Ilima Lewis

Race, Gender, and Sexuality Symposium

“Impenetrable Interiority” focuses on Emily Dickinson’s intimate letters to her sister-in-law, Susan Dickinson. There have often been speculations that Dickinson was a spinster-like shut-in whose love life was quite uneventful, and yet on the other hand, there has also been the speculation that Emily was deeply in love with Susan. Out of all of the people Emily wrote to, Susan was the correspondent who received the most. However, the circumstances were not so black and white, and are not easy for biographers to settle on. Her letters leave room for many questions.

The Mushroom, The Frog, And The Rainbow Of Desire: A Participatory-Psychedelic Spiritual Emergence, Gregg Lahood Jan 2022

The Mushroom, The Frog, And The Rainbow Of Desire: A Participatory-Psychedelic Spiritual Emergence, Gregg Lahood

International Journal of Transpersonal Studies Advance Publication Archive

This article will explore a spiritual emergency through a myth or fairy tale that emerged at the same time I had a frightening brush with death. Two days before the accident I had ingested psilocybin mushrooms. Michael Washburn, among other transpersonal theorists, will be used to interpret, amplify and re-frame this potential ‘psychotic episode’ with ‘borderline features’ into something more, perhaps, on the threshold of a shamanic initiation in a liminal state. The mythic sequence in my story anticipates the death-rebirth (perinatal pattern) and evolution of consciousness in the LSD research of Stanislav Grof; an evolution given epic participatory elucidation …
