Lighting Design For Terminator: The Musical By Breanna Beitz, Mikayli Marciulionis
Lighting Design For Terminator: The Musical By Breanna Beitz, Mikayli Marciulionis
Scholarly Horizons: University of Minnesota, Morris Undergraduate Journal
This paper discusses the lighting design for a production of Terminator: the Musical at the University of Minnesota Morris. The directorial concept revolved around the idea of camp: big sound, flashy lights, big spectacle. Camp refers to an aesthetic style that embraces exaggeration, playfulness, irony, and theatricality. It often celebrates things that are considered 'over the top' — artificial, sentimental, or deliberately tacky — but does so with affection, humor, and self-awareness. Leaning into the concept of it being 'so bad it is good,' is how the director envisioned Terminator: The Musical to be. To this end, my approach for …

Handwritten Histories: Exploring Identity Through Personal Correspondence, Savana Hauck
Scholarly Horizons: University of Minnesota, Morris Undergraduate Journal
This project examines handwritten correspondence as a site of gendered and sexual self-discovery, intimacy, and historical continuity. Developed for HIST 2708W - Gender, Women, and Sexuality in Modern Europe - , it centers on a collection of contemporary “snail mail” letters written in response to reflective prompts about participants’ lived experiences of gender and sexuality. These personal narratives are presented in a physical, scrapbook-style format that emphasizes slowness, care, and trust as methodological and ethical practices.
By placing these contemporary letters in dialogue with historical examples of correspondence—including an 1882 letter sent to German psychiatrist Richard von Krafft-Ebing, the intimate …

Simulating Custom Environment For Augmented Reality Or Extended Reality System, Vikram Auradkar
Simulating Custom Environment For Augmented Reality Or Extended Reality System, Vikram Auradkar
Defensive Publications Series
This document describes a framework for simulating immersive computing environments, specifically targeting augmented reality (AR) and extended reality (XR) development. The system utilizes a dual-input architecture comprising a 3D scene file, such as a Graphics Library Transmission Format (glTF) file, and a corresponding scene information file containing semantic metadata. This metadata defines environmental elements including planar surfaces like floors and ceilings, vertical walls, and spatial anchors for immovable or movable objects. By incorporating configurable visibility conditions—including field-of-view (FOV) triggers, distance thresholds, and ambient lighting levels—the framework simulates the dynamic discovery of scene information by virtual hardware sensors that would be …

"This Is Not A Scam!": Assessment Of An Awareness Raising Program Tackling Older Adults' Scam Victimization In A Multi-Method Study, Katalin Parti, Pamela Teaster, Susanna Rinehart, Charles Dye
Qualitative Criminology (QC)
"Interactive theatre has long been used to educate and empower communities and prevent crime across all age groups. Although older populations are disproportionately victimized through fraudulent online schemes, effective educational interventions, like interactive theatre, have not been utilized to increase crime awareness. This paper describes an explorational research project, analyzing the results of a theatre-based fraud awareness program aimed towards educating victims and their communities about scams targeting older people. The study employs a mixed-method research design to examine program impact. In applying multifaceted tools of data collection, such as survey, participant observation, and follow-up interviews, the research team identified …

Analysis Of Traditional Wisdom For Ecological Sustainability In Tanzania: A Case Study Of Metaphorical Source Domains In Pangwa Ritual Texts, Winne Stephen Mtega, Angelus Mnenuka
Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences
Campaigns for ecological sustainability have gained a great currency in the contemporary academic discourse. Nonetheless, from time immemorial, Africans have pushed the ecological sustainability agenda through cultural taboos and regulated resource harvesting. Many African societies have embedded ecological consciousness in daily life expressions, and have intricately expressed it through literary and ritual texts. This study focuses on ecological awareness in the ritual texts of the Pangwa community. It analyses how environmental domains—such as land, seeds, and fruits—serve as the basis for metaphors in the Pangwa community to prove the use of wisdom to promote and sustain ecological practices (ecocriticism). The …
