Spatializing Gender And Adolescence In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet, Mara Andersen Oct 2022

Spatializing Gender And Adolescence In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet, Mara Andersen

Great Plains Graduate Review

Romeo and Juliet create a fragile and temporary internal, private world of love and union in response to the external and public Montague and Capulet feud. In contrast to the external chaos in Verona, theirs is a world of desire, self-actualization, and fulfillment. In their adolescent union, “passion lends them power” (Prologue.13) to temporarily subvert their external realities. Eventually, their private world, fragile and unsustainable, tragically erodes with the external realities of Romeo’s banishment and Juliet’s impending marriage. Within the internal space of Juliet’s tomb, the lovers unite, consummating their marriage in Juliet’s blood. Her death, with Romeo’s masculinity thrust …

Potentiality, Resistance And Bare Life: Giorgio Agamben On Melville’S Bartleby, Yanjun Wang, Yaping Wang Oct 2022

Potentiality, Resistance And Bare Life: Giorgio Agamben On Melville’S Bartleby, Yanjun Wang, Yaping Wang

Theoretical Studies in Literature and Art

The idea of potentiality runs through Giorgio Agamben’s political philosophy. In his analysis of Herman Melville’s Bartleby, the Scrivener, Agamben thoroughly interprets potentiality and bare life through Bartleby’s “I prefer not to”. Agamben believes that Bartleby’s inoperativeness is the highest form of resistance, which exists as pure potentiality against the power apparatuses in modern society. Agamben considers Bartleby’s inoperativeness as the exact way to redeem bare life in modern society, where the state of exception already becomes normality. This article starts with Agamben’s reading of Bartley, focuses on potentiality, resistance and bare life to analyze the pure and thorough way …

Black Snow, Department Of Theatre And Dance

Fall 2022

A writer’s dream turns into a nightmare as Sergei Maxudov’s novel is finally going to be presented as a play at the renowned Independent Theater of Moscow, and the rehearsals reveal the hypocrisy and frustration of producing a truly artistic piece. A bitingly funny adaptation of Russian literary giant Bulgakov’s famous unfinished theatrical novel, Black Snow is a hilarious send-up of Stanislavsky’s famous “Method” and the acting profession in general.

What, For The University, Is Solidarity? Catholic Higher Education And The Unfinished Reception Of Gaudium Et Spes, Susan Bigelow Reynolds

Events

Introduction:

Forty years ago, Jesuit philosopher and theologian Ignacio Ellacuría accepted an honorary doctorate from Santa Clara University and delivered a commencement address with which some of us here today are likely familiar. In the concise and penetrating speech, Ellacuría proposed a vision of the university as both a center of intellectual inquiry and cultural production, and as a “social force”—a place concerned with the transformation of social reality.

2020-Current year OA Pubs

BACKGROUND: Carpal tunnel release (CTR) is a surgical treatment option for patients with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) symptoms that are unresponsive to conservative treatment. Most patients experience symptomatic relief after CTR regardless of the surgical technique. However, direct comparisons of the safety and effectiveness between CTR surgical techniques are limited. The purpose of this randomized controlled trial is to compare the safety and effectiveness of CTR with ultrasound guidance (CTR-US) versus mini-open CTR (mOCTR) in subjects with symptomatic CTS.

DESIGN AND METHODS: TUTOR (Trial of Ultrasound guided CTR versus Traditional Open Release) is a randomized controlled trial in which 120 …

The Pirates Of Penzance, Department Of Theatre And Dance

Fall 2022

“The Pirates of Penzance” is a comic opera written by W.S Gilbert and music by Arthur Sullivan that concerns Fredric, a young apprentice who is released from a band of Pirates. He then later meets the daughter of Major-General Stanley and falls in love. However, a revelation is made, and he must battle not only his sense of duty to his apprenticeship and the Pirates but to his new love. In this modern, and explorative telling of the opera, we put aside gender to challenge the notion of masculinity and femininity.

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

The study aims to investigate Information Literacy Skills among Fine and Applied Arts Undergraduate Students in South-East Federal Universities, Nigeria.
