Published in the first study on empty places in photography and the Covid-19 pandemic, Parker’s chapter examines the cinematographic depiction of ‘emptiness’ in the author’s site-specific essay film, Father-land (2018), made collaboratively with the film-maker Stuart Moore through an artists’ research residency in Nicosia, the only divided capital city in Europe. It details the process-based research methods that led to Father-land’s affective depiction of the politically-charged, ‘empty landscape’ of the Nicosia Buffer Zone, the demilitarized strip of land monitored by the United Nations, which has separated the Greek Cypriot south of Cyprus from the Turkish-occupied north since the violent conflict …

The Department of Theatre and Dance at East Tennessee State University will open its 2023-24 season early next month with “These Shining Lives” by Melanie Marnich.

Shows are scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 5-7, with a 2 p.m. performance on Oct. 8.

Each of the performances happen at the Bert C. Bach Theatre in the ETSU Martin Center for the Arts.

‘ Food on the margins in Plymouth’ is a short ‘fly on the wall’-style documentary film which has captured the food stories of six individuals who are, for whatever reason, experiencing food insecurity. The film was inspired by a recent participatory food research project (Food as a Lifestyle Motivator) which aimed to explore creative methods to better understand the food experiences of vulnerable communities in Plymouth, UK. Our aim was to ‘co-produce’ a documentary film illustrating the realities of the lived experience of food insecurity that could be promoted by/to city leaders and policy-makers to catalyse food system change. Shifting Presentation: How Nonbinary College Students Respond To Deadnaming And Misgendering, Charlotte Arechederra

As society becomes more open and welcoming to those of gender identities beyond the binary, it becomes increasingly important to understand their gender identity and presentation. Part of understanding these concepts means understanding how gender identities can exist relationally. Using in-depth interviews, this study explores how nonbinary college students respond to misgendering or deadnaming. These responses involve reflected appraisals, which social psychologists find can impact one’s sense of self and cause alterations in their self-presentation. These data show that nonbinary college students navigate being deadnamed or misgendered through their gender presentation in two primary manners: one, by adjusting presentation to …

The following paper discusses the role of hanakotoba (the language of flowers) throughout the works of Yoshiya Nobuko, placing a special emphasis on her most unique work “Onibi.” This paper begins with a loose discussion of hanakotoba’s history within Japan, before delving into “Onibi” to highlight how the use of flowers in literature creates various readings of a text, as well as provides deeper insights into the author, the true purpose of a text, and the social and historical context that a text was produced in.

Introduction: Psychological states during competition seem to be an important factor to determine successful performance. Therefore, the analysis of emotions is essential to understand how emotions can support sports performance. This systematic review aimed to summarize the studies examining the influence of emotional states on dancesport (DS) performance and the use of mental techniques to improve psychological preparation to face the competition. Material and methods. Web of Science, Scholar, Scopus and Pubmed databases were used to search studies. The screening process was summarized within the PRISMA 2020 flowchart. Results. Cabaret is a musical with music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and a book by Joe Masteroff. It is based on the 1951 play I Am a Camera by John Van Druten, which in turn was based on the 1939 novel Goodbye to Berlin by Christopher Isherwood.

Set in 1929–1930 Berlin during the twilight of the Jazz Age as the Nazis rise to power, the musical focuses on the hedonistic nightlife at the seedy Kit Kat Klub and revolves around American writer Clifford Bradshaw's relations with English cabaret performer Sally Bowles.
