Urasawa’S Monster And The Aesthetics Of Uncertainty, Simon Lindblom Oct 2026

Urasawa’S Monster And The Aesthetics Of Uncertainty, Simon Lindblom

Dialogue: The Interdisciplinary Journal of Popular Culture and Pedagogy

This essay examines the anime Monster (Urasawa, 2001) through the lens of Aesthetic action (Klinger, 2024) and ethical praxis. Set in a nostalgically rendered pre-accelerationist Europe, the anime cultivates an atmosphere of uncertainty that prompts viewers to engage in complex moral issues. By exploring the anime's aesthetic strategies, this analysis reveals how Monster functions as a political device, exposing the dark undercurrents of historical trauma and the systemic exclusion of marginalised groups. The essay argues that Monster's deliberate cultivation of indeterminacy, particularly through its morally ambiguous characters and unresolved dilemmas, embodies a Determinate Performance of Indeterminacy (Klinger, 2024). This …

Challenges And Coping Strategies Of Agritourism Operators In South Dakota, Xu Li, Peggy Schlechter

Journal of Extension

This study explored the challenges faced by agritourism operators in South Dakota and examined their coping strategies. Through in-depth interviews with 17 agritourism operators, four major challenges were identified: lack of business knowledge and skills, government regulations, time constraints, and financial concerns. The coping strategies adopted by operators demonstrated their adaptability and resilience. The findings suggest that Extension can play a vital role as an educator, facilitator, and advocate in supporting agritourism development. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of agritourism growth in South Dakota and provides valuable insights for Extension and other organizations involved in supporting agritourism.

The Impact Of Environmental Exposures On Cystic Acne: A Narrative Review, Angela Vaysman, Morgan Ulczak, Carly Achterberg, Lucas Goetz, Luke Atwood, Reed Hildenbrant, Erin Hallman, Caitlyn Shaughnessy, Karen Vo

Student Publications

Cystic acne is a severe inflammatory dermatological condition traditionally associated with genetic, hormonal, and microbial factors. Although environmental exposures may contribute to acne pathogenesis, the role of airborne agricultural irritants remains underexplored. Agricultural environments contain a complex mixture of organic dusts, pesticides, fertilizers, volatile compounds, and animal-derived particulates that may influence skin barrier integrity and inflammatory responses. This narrative review examines the potential relationship between airborne agricultural exposures and cystic acne by integrating evidence from dermatology, environmental health, and immunology. Particular attention is given to mechanisms through which agricultural irritants may disrupt epidermal barrier proteins, including filaggrin and claudins; promote …

Psychological Science Faculty Publications

Intimate partner violence (IPV) among LGBTQ+ individuals differs from experiences of cisgender heterosexual individuals. LGBTQ+ individuals report higher rates of IPV and face unique dynamics related to their minority gender and sexual identities, such as identity-related abuse. Guided by the Minority Stress Theory, this study is based on the premise that stigma associated with sexual and gender minority identities contributes to an increased risk of IPV as well as poorer mental health outcomes. Using a convergent mixed-methods design, this study explored the experiences of IPV and related impact on mental health outcomes, namely symptoms of depression and suicide risk, in …

Research On Deconstruction Method Of Health Product Marketing Narrative Process From A Data-Driven Perspective, Yinuo Liu, Can Lu, Jianlin Yang Oct 2026

Research On Deconstruction Method Of Health Product Marketing Narrative Process From A Data-Driven Perspective, Yinuo Liu, Can Lu, Jianlin Yang

Journal of Scientific Information Research

[Purpose/significance] Against the backdrop of the platform economy, traditional misinformation detection tools are insufficient to identify "halt-true and halt-false" health information, which poses challenges to the public's health information literacy. Thus, systematic deconstruction of the narrative techniques and dissemination mechanisms of health marketing information is of critical academic and practical significance. [Method/process] From a data-driven perspective, this study constructs an integrated analytical framework characterized by the tri-layered interaction of "narrative construction, resource organization, and cognitive impact". Drawing on information ecology theory and framing theory, it further employs deep learning, semantic similarity analysis, and other methods to empirically deconstruct the data …

Exploring Translanguaging Strategies In Brazilian Efl Classrooms: Teacher Perceptions, Challenges, And Institutional Pressures, Vitoria Castor Oct 2026

Exploring Translanguaging Strategies In Brazilian Efl Classrooms: Teacher Perceptions, Challenges, And Institutional Pressures, Vitoria Castor

MITESOL Journal: An Online Publication of MITESOL

This study explores the role of translanguaging in Brazilian English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms, focusing on how in-service teachers perceive translanguaging and how they navigate the challenges of implementing translanguaging to support student learning. While using a qualitative approach, three EFL teachers were interviewed. Three findings reveal a significant tension between institutional beliefs that enforce English-only policies and the practical realities of student comprehension. Teachers report that using Portuguese strategically enhances understanding, reduces student anxiety, and fosters engagement. Participants highlighted a lack of formal training in translanguaging during their teacher preparation program, leading them to rely on autonomous …

From Protest To Form: Translating Venezuelan Resistance Into Architectural Form, Estefany S. Gomes Oct 2026

From Protest To Form: Translating Venezuelan Resistance Into Architectural Form, Estefany S. Gomes

Bachelor of Architecture Theses - 5th Year

Political unrest in Venezuela has continuously redefined the relationship between power and space. Protest reveals that collective action is inherently spatial. As movement consolidates into collective action, it reorganizes territory and redefines how space is used and occupied. What appears as an event can be understood as a constructed condition shaped by direction, pressure, and intensity. In this sense, protest operates as a temporary architecture formed through motion and presence.

This thesis investigates the spatial intelligence embedded in protest and explores how it can be translated into architectural form. Protests reorganize space through compression and release. They unfold through phases …

Safeguarding Childhood: A Comprehensive Review Of Child Abuse In Pakistan, Zohra Asad, Khadija Khaja

Journal for Social Work Scholar-Practitioners

Child abuse is a phenomenon that has affected children from every country, culture, or socio-economic class. Children who are abused or neglected may be more likely to repeat the cycle of violence by entering violent relationships as teens and adults, or with some abusing their children. This paper aims to explore child abuse in Pakistan, the incidence of child abuse, and ways to address it. This academic article seeks to investigate and examine the patterns of child abuse in Pakistan. This report offers insights into the prevalence, types, risk factors, and effects of child abuse in Pakistan by reviewing the …

The Emergence And Evolution Of Doctor Of Social Work Programs (Dsw): A Review Of Dsw Education, Student Outcomes, And Implications For The Profession, Cynthia Franklin, Will Francis, Katherine Montgomery Oct 2026

The Emergence And Evolution Of Doctor Of Social Work Programs (Dsw): A Review Of Dsw Education, Student Outcomes, And Implications For The Profession, Cynthia Franklin, Will Francis, Katherine Montgomery

Journal for Social Work Scholar-Practitioners

The Doctor of Social Work (DSW) degree has experienced rapid growth since its resurgence in 2007, with a 260% increase in accredited programs between 2014 and 2019. This literature review synthesizes recent empirical and conceptual publications (approximately 2021–2026) on DSW programs, examining their historical development, distinctions from the research-focused PhD in social work, student demographics and motivations, program quality and graduate outcomes, and the role of cohort structures in online and hybrid learning environments. Findings indicate that DSW programs occupy a unique program type in the social work education continuum and serve a distinct population of experienced practitioners seeking advanced …

Treating The Trauma Beneath The Violence: A Reappraisal Of Intimate Partner Violence Perpetrator Interventions, Huda S. Shaikh, Vanessa Cordoba Oct 2026

Treating The Trauma Beneath The Violence: A Reappraisal Of Intimate Partner Violence Perpetrator Interventions, Huda S. Shaikh, Vanessa Cordoba

Journal for Social Work Scholar-Practitioners

Intimate partner violence (IPV) remains a global public health emergency with little meaningful reduction in prevalence over the past two decades, despite extensive micro-level interventions targeting perpetrators through batterer intervention programs (BIPs) and legal accountability mechanisms (Arce et al., 2020; Babcock et al., 2004; Shetty, 2025; WHO, 2025). Using a macro social work and epistemological lens, this paper argues that the IPV field and judicial systems, particularly in the United States, have relied on an outdated and largely reactive paradigm that obscures the trauma histories of perpetrators, neglects intergenerational and neurobiological mechanisms, and perpetuates epistemic injustice toward both survivors and …

Reconsidering The Dsw-Phd Divide In Social Work Education: Administrative Implications For Faculty Roles, Recognition, And Support, Jesse Gilreath, Laura H. Trull, Brittany Stahnke, Madeline Shipley Oct 2026

Reconsidering The Dsw-Phd Divide In Social Work Education: Administrative Implications For Faculty Roles, Recognition, And Support, Jesse Gilreath, Laura H. Trull, Brittany Stahnke, Madeline Shipley

Journal for Social Work Scholar-Practitioners

As Doctor of Social Work (DSW) programs expand and increasing numbers of DSW graduates enter academia, questions persist regarding how DSW and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) preparation are valued and integrated within social work education. Historically, the PhD has been viewed as the primary pathway for academic careers, while the DSW has been framed as a practice-oriented degree. However, this distinction increasingly reflects institutional assumptions rather than actual faculty contributions. This commentary examines the evolving role of DSW-prepared faculty in academic social work by integrating existing literature with findings from an illustrative survey of DSW-prepared faculty in Council on Social …

Building Bots That Teach Thinking: Using Custom Ai Chatbots To Enhance Critical Thinking And Decision-Making, Megan Biagi

AI in the Classroom: A Virtual Summit

Generative AI is increasingly common in education, but its effect on student learning depends largely on how it is used. This interactive session will introduce practical strategies for creating custom AI chatbots that encourage students to think through problems rather than simply ask for answers. Participants will explore ways to design bots that ask learners to explain their reasoning, consider alternative perspectives, identify assumptions, and revise their thinking before receiving feedback.   Examples from healthcare education and other disciplines will show how these tools can support guided inquiry, reflective questioning, clinical reasoning, and decision-making. Participants will review and revise sample chatbot …
