Strategies For Reducing Employee Turnover In Long-Term Care, Eleanor Denise Gaines Jul 2025

Strategies For Reducing Employee Turnover In Long-Term Care, Eleanor Denise Gaines

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

High employee turnover in long-term care (LTC) facilities contributes to diminished care quality, low staff morale, and increased operational costs. LTC organizational leaders must address high turnover because it disrupts continuity of care, undermines team cohesion, and increases the burden of recruiting and training new staff. This qualitative multiple case study explored strategies used by human resource managers (HRMs) to improve staff retention and morale in LTC settings, motivated by the need to prevent workforce deterioration, enhance competitive advantage, and increase organizational profitability. Grounded in Herzberg’s two-factor theory, the purpose of the study was to identify evidence-based practices that effectively …

Building Belonging Infrastructure In Cities: Arts/Culture-Based Critical Participatory Action Research And Youth, Kimberly Rae Nightingale Jul 2025

Building Belonging Infrastructure In Cities: Arts/Culture-Based Critical Participatory Action Research And Youth, Kimberly Rae Nightingale

Dissertations and Theses

Belonging is a critical human need. Urban planning's history of bureaucratic expertise continues to champion the powerful, resulting in structures and procedures that still separate and damage city communities. This research challenges the current hegemony of urban planning that centers geography--the container of land--in its practice. Instead, centering the belonging of people to each other is the essential quality of healthy urban planning. A people-centered urban planning practice where the community's people are the experts and decision-makers of their own cities--and belonging is the primary objective--is long overdue.

Arts/culture-based critical participatory action research (PAR)--where the research questions, design, data collection, …

A Multidimensional Preclinical Investigation Of The Biogenic Amine Depletion And Subchronic Swim Models Of Fibromyalgia, Cassie M. Argenbright, Ian F. Scully, Damaris Flores, Perry N. Fuchs Jul 2025

A Multidimensional Preclinical Investigation Of The Biogenic Amine Depletion And Subchronic Swim Models Of Fibromyalgia, Cassie M. Argenbright, Ian F. Scully, Damaris Flores, Perry N. Fuchs

Psychological Science Faculty Publications

Pain is a multidimensional phenomenon, encompassing affective-motivational, cognitive-evaluative, and sensory-discriminative domains. Understanding these components is crucial for effective diagnosis and management, particularly in conditions like fibromyalgia (FM), where pain is of unknown etiology. However, attempts to replicate FM through preclinical models often fail to replicate the disorder’s multidimensionality. These studies evaluated the multidimensionality of two primary preclinical FM models—biogenic amine depletion(reserpine) and subchronic swim stress—across all three pain dimensions, and these models assessed predictive validity using the FDA-approved pharmacologic duloxetine (Cymbalta®). Additionally, the combinations of these models assessed whether their integration better mirrors clinical manifestations. The biogenic amine depletion model …

A Case Study In Evolving Academic Governance: Democratic Accountability And Academic Capitalism, William C. Schulz, Denise Dezolt

Higher Learning Research Communications

As the higher education market becomes both more competitive and fragmented (as well as controlled through uncertain and changing regulatory regimes), and as those whom the higher education market serves become more discerning as consumers who apply proven customer behaviors within the market, universities must re-evaluate their internal governance systems. Re-evaluation of customer behaviors and governance systems may allow universities to become more inclusive, responsive, and adaptive within an academic capitalism setting.

In this case study, we present a research-based and integrated “Shared, Informed, Stakeholder-Engaged Governance” model. We describe how a large online university developed and implemented a model that …

Background

Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy (REST) is a therapeutic technique that involves immersing an individual in an environment with minimal sensory input or stimulation. The goal of REST is to induce a state of relaxation that is deeper than what can be achieved through other forms of relaxation techniques. Research suggests that REST can help reduce anxiety, alleviate chronic pain, improve sleep, and enhance creativity and cognitive function. Flotation-REST is a popular type of REST that utilizes an enclosed tank filled with buoyant saltwater to facilitate relaxation. This study aimed to synthesize the evidence on studies that investigate the effects …
