Navigating Errors: Voice Assistants And Aging Users, Bea Marithe V. Pulido
Navigating Errors: Voice Assistants And Aging Users, Bea Marithe V. Pulido
Theses
This study examined how age relates to usability, cognitive load, and affect when using voice-user interfaces (VUIs). VUIs such as Siri, Alexa, and Google Home are increasingly common and allow users to complete tasks through voice commands. While these systems can be convenient and accessible, especially for older adults, they often provide brief or unclear feedback when errors occur, making it difficult for users to understand what went wrong and how to continue the interaction. The current study compared older and younger adults (n = 40) to examine group differences in perceived usability, cognitive load, and affective change during VUI …

Jurnal Pendidikan: Teori, Penelitian, dan Pengembangan
This study examines the use of a QR Code-based E-LKPD integrated with SOP videos and a K3 safety checklist in improving vocational students’ bench work competence. A pretest–posttest control group design was applied to 63 tenth-grade machining students at SMKN 1 Jenangan Ponorogo in the 2025/2026 academic year selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using performance assessment observation sheets and written tests. The results show that both groups achieved the competent category, with the experimental class obtaining a slightly higher mean score (80.22) than the control class (77.07), However the independent t-test results indicate that the difference is not …

Visions of Research in Music Education
This is a standalone work, but it is complementary to the study, “Teacher violence in university music education: An exploration in a Mexican context.” It presents the analysis of emerging information found in 53 stories of victims of teacher violence in university music programs. We incorporated reflections and contributions from students, professionals, and dropouts of music careers in the Mexican Republic, who voluntarily shared their stories. The first category describes the consequences of teacher violence. On one hand, there were effects interpreted as positive, including the activation of achievement orientation, overexertion, and self-demand. It is pointed out that these consequences …

Teacher Violence In University Music Education: An Exploration In The Mexican Context, Karla María Reynoso Vargas, Basilio Fernández-Morante
Visions of Research in Music Education
This article presents the results of an exploratory phenomenological study aimed at identifying expressions of teacher violence in university music training environments in the Mexican context. We analyzed 53 accounts from students, professionals, and dropouts of music degree programs who studied at universities or conservatories across nine Mexican states and voluntarily shared their testimonies through the Mexican Association of Music Psychology (AMEPSIM). We address sociological assumptions about the dynamics of violence, the socio-educational weight of the conservatory tradition and its potential link to the limited application of contemporary pedagogical principles, as well as the normalization of teacher violence. Various forms …

The Role Of Organisational Culture In Implementing Cybersecurity Practices To Address Insider Threats In South Africa, Thamsanqa Ngcobo, Salah Kabanda, Ronald Chiwariro
African Conference on Information Systems and Technology
Cybersecurity is a critical component of organisational resilience as digital transformation reshapes operations and risk management. Despite substantial investment in technical controls, insider threats remain a persistent challenge, shaped as much by cultural and organisational factors as by technology. This study examines how cultural factors influence the implementation of cybersecurity practices aimed at mitigating insider threats in South African organisations, considering national, organisational, and individual dimensions. Using a qualitative research design, semi‑structured interviews were conducted from nine participants working across a range of industries including ICT consulting, financial services, IT services, gaming, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, and IT managed services. The findings …

From Crisis Necessity To Sustained Use: A Process Model Of Mobile Banking Use In An Unequal Global South Context, Saadiek Basadien, Molefe Maloma, Mariam Jacobs-Basadien, Papama Mtambeka
African Conference on Information Systems and Technology
Mobile banking (m-banking) has become an important financial infrastructure, especially during crises. This study examines how users in the Western Cape, South Africa, adopted m-banking during the COVID-19 pandemic. Using a qualitative design with a construct-informed interview guide and thematic analysis of interviews, we show that adoption was driven less by innovation-seeking and more by situational necessity to maintain financial continuity and minimise health risk. Over time, crisis-triggered use evolved into value-sustained engagement anchored in convenience, financial control, and growing digital confidence. The findings identify social mediation, risk-management practices, and digital literacy as key mechanisms shaping this trajectory. We developed …
Employee Perceptions Of Artificial Intelligence Adoption And Integration: The Case Of Organisations In South Africa, Mikhail Sankar, Ayanda Pekane
Employee Perceptions Of Artificial Intelligence Adoption And Integration: The Case Of Organisations In South Africa, Mikhail Sankar, Ayanda Pekane
African Conference on Information Systems and Technology
Various organisations in South Africa have adopted Artificial Intelligent (AI) for improving organisational efficiency and effectiveness. However, South Africa is still in the exploratory stages of AI adoption, indicating that there are gaps in AI regulation at both national and organisational levels. In addition, high unemployment in South Africa increases fears that AI could replace jobs across industries. These contextual issues affect employees as organisations invest in AI systems. Despite this, little attention has been paid to how employees perceive AI, even though it is reshaping how work is structured, done, and experienced in South African organisations. Thus, the objective …

How Prior Exposure To Cyber Threats Shape Cyber Hygiene Practices Among Mobile Internet Users In Accra, Jefferson Sigfred Seyeram Bansa, Date Barrigah-Benissan, Martin Yaw Osei Mintah
African Conference on Information Systems and Technology
Mobile internet usage in Ghana has revolutionized communication, financial activities, and commercial operations, as Accra residents increasingly rely on mobile devices as their primary digital tool. Users face multiple cyber threats, including phishing, malware, and identity theft, as their online activity outpaces their cybersecurity knowledge. This study employs a qualitative case study design to examine how mobile internet users in Accra experience and respond to cyber threats. It draws on Protection Motivation Theory (PMT) and Technology Threat Avoidance Theory (TTAT) to explain how users’ threat perceptions, coping strategies, and contextual conditions shape their online safety behaviour. Data will be collected …

Digital Health Adoption And Sustainability In Ghana's Public Hospitals: Lessons From Covid-19, Braimah Wadudu, Peter Darko, Rufai Adjei
African Conference on Information Systems and Technology
This study examines the adoption of digital health technologies in Ghanaian public hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic, drawing on the Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) framework and the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT). A mixed-methods design was employed, combining a quantitative survey of 262 healthcare workers with qualitative insights from open-ended responses. The findings show that the pandemic accelerated the use of electronic medical records, telemedicine, and digital communication tools. However, institutional readiness varied, with gaps in internet reliability, device availability, and technical support. Technology acceptance was generally high, though confidence and ease of use differed across staff groups. …
Social Media Motivations And Crisis Engagement Among Generation Z: A Uses And Gratification Perspective, Edina Galaa, Sulemana Bankuoru Egala, John Asibuo Boakye, Abdul-Hamid Sokun Alhassan
Social Media Motivations And Crisis Engagement Among Generation Z: A Uses And Gratification Perspective, Edina Galaa, Sulemana Bankuoru Egala, John Asibuo Boakye, Abdul-Hamid Sokun Alhassan
African Conference on Information Systems and Technology
Generation Z's growing use of social media during crises raises important questions about their motivations. This study applies Uses and Gratification Theory to investigate how four motivations — entertainment, social recognition, information sharing and altruism- drive Gen Z’s media use during emergencies and whether empathy moderates these effects. Using a scenario-based survey of 319 respondents and Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling analysis, findings reveal that social recognition and altruism motivation significantly influence social media use intensity, while entertainment seeking and information sharing intention do not. Importantly, social media use intensity simultaneously predicts both prosocial need fulfilment and content validation …

This study examines the role of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in the learning and administrative experiences of students and educators in higher education, through a narrative literature review of thirty-one articles. The literature was thematically reviewed and coded to identify themes and factors contributing to challenges, benefits, and policies and guidelines. These themes were explored in depth with their relation to GenAI for learning outcomes, the role of GenAI in student’s learning experiences and the effectiveness of using GenAI tools to support educators’ administrative processes. In light of the challenges and deterrents identified (e.g. implementation - maintenance, privacy and security, …
