The Effectiveness Of A Developed Unit Based On The Educational Scaffolding Strategy In Improving Visual Thinking Skills And Solving Mathematical Problems Among Fourth Grade Female Students In Palestine, Majed Al-Deeb
Journal of Educational and Psychological Studies
Abstract: The current study aimed to identify the effectiveness of a developed unit based on the educational scaffolding strategy (EDS) in improving visual thinking skills (VTS) and solving the mathematical problem (SMP) for the fourth-grade female students in Palestine. A quasi-experimental design was used. The tools include a (VTS) test, and an (SMP) test in geometry and measurement. The sample consisted of (82) fourth grade female students divided into two equal groups. The experimental group was taught geometry using the (EDS), while the control group was taught via the normal method. The results of the study showed that there was …
Predictors Of Trust Between The Southern Baptist Pastor And Congregation, Jared Thompson
Predictors Of Trust Between The Southern Baptist Pastor And Congregation, Jared Thompson
Dissertations
Trust is at a low point in American life regarding institutions in general but particularly the church. This study examined the relationship between a Southern Baptist pastor and the congregants that he serves. Specifically, a model was proposed in which perceived consistency between words and actions, perceived warmth, and perceived competence predict trust in the pastor from the congregation. To test this model, a quantitative study with a survey design was performed. A survey was created using a combination of instruments for authentic leadership, behavioral integrity, competence, warmth, and trust. The survey was distributed through digital mediums to Southern Baptist …

Professional Counseling/Psychotherapy And Its Influence On Emotional Intelligence And Authentic Leadership Development: A Qualitative Participatory Inquiry Research Study, Jenny Lee Broaddus
Professional Counseling/Psychotherapy And Its Influence On Emotional Intelligence And Authentic Leadership Development: A Qualitative Participatory Inquiry Research Study, Jenny Lee Broaddus
Dissertations
The authentic leadership theory acknowledges that leaders must advance their introspection to gain self-awareness, balanced processing, internal moral perspective, and relational transparency. Leaders may desire to lead effectively, yet modern leaders lack emotional intelligence, authenticity, and a vehicle to acquire (Northouse, 2019). Like authentic leadership, emotional intelligence is favored in leaders to include self awareness, emotional management, empathy, and relationship management (Goleman, 1995). Much research surrounds emotionally intelligent competencies in leadership, but limited research targets behaviors for development. A look at psychology and counseling revealed that self-awareness, a standard competency in authentic leadership and emotional intelligence, is also the primary …

The Unacknowledged Realities Of Extraterritorial Taxation, Laura Snyder
The Unacknowledged Realities Of Extraterritorial Taxation, Laura Snyder
Southern Illinois University Law Journal
The U.S. extraterritorial tax system has evolved such that today it is more consequential than one century ago. The system, conceived in the stigmatization of overseas Americans, consists of highly penalizing taxation and banking policies that make it difficult for overseas Americans to live normally. The IRS is also a victim: it is unable to administer the system.
Many have sought to educate policymakers and the public. Detailed survey reports have been issued, documenting how overseas Americans experience the system. Research articles have been published, exposing certain problems of the system and, in some cases, proposing solutions. To date, such …
The Effect Of Work Accommodations On The Risk Of Relapse In Physicians And Nurses With Co-Occurring Substance Use And Mental Health Disorders, Corbin Watson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Accessing reasonable work accommodations may be difficult for healthcare professionals with impairments, particularly those who suffer from mental health and substance use disorders (MHSUD). The use of workplace accommodations by medical professionals who also have MHSUD may experience barriers to their accommodations. The article explores (1) the difference between the types of work accommodations and (2) the types of barriers healthcare professionals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders experience and how they impact their risk of relapse. Implications for physicians, nurses, and counselors are discussed.
Distraction By Any Other Name? The Impact Of Music On Social Exclusion Recovery, Sydney G. Wicks
Distraction By Any Other Name? The Impact Of Music On Social Exclusion Recovery, Sydney G. Wicks
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Across three experiments, this work investigated whether the effectiveness of music on social exclusion recovery was greater than that of other distracting noises. I hypothesized that listening to music would be effective in improving needs satisfaction after instances of rejection (being explicitly disliked; Study 1) or ostracism (being ignored; Studies 2-3). Further, I examined whether this effectiveness was mediated by reduced rumination, increased emotional engagement (feeling moved by audio), and increased parasocial experiences (sense of one-sided psychological bonds). Ultimately, music was shown to be effective (albeit, relatively) in improving one’s needs when compared to a baseline condition. Additionally, listening to …
The Champion Of "The Permanent Things:" The Imaginative Conservatism Of Russell Kirk, Robert Nisbet, And Richard Weaver, Xiang Xu
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
My dissertation deals with the intellectual thought of Russell Kirk, Robert Nisbet, and Richard Weaver. Renowned today as the prominent thinkers who inaugurated the postwar American conservative intellectual movement, these three thinkers by far have not received enough attention among historians as they deserved.
In my dissertation, by unpacking the central tenets of the conservative thought of the three thinkers, I try to demonstrate that their ideas were not just pertinent to the nascent American conservative movement emerging after the postwar decade, but their intellectual thought are in many ways enduring and timeless, transcending the barren limitations of their own …

Music Icons, Allegories And Symbolic Representation : Iconological Analysis Of Thai Murals Along The Mae Klong Riverside, Traitrung Ploymong, Poonpit Amatyaku, Narongchai Pidokrajt, Manus Keawbucha
Manusya, Journal of Humanities
This article examines the Thai music iconology – with a focus on the instruments and ensembles and their symbolic representations – of monastery murals along the Mae Klong riverside. It also investigates how Thai music iconology links to broader views on Thai music, including those from Buddhism, culture, and social realms. Thirty-eight murals from the Ayutthaya period to the King Rama V period were selected for analysis. Improvised tools from Kress and Van Leeuwen’s (2020) inter-semiotic, multidimensional approach and Panosfky’s (1962) concepts of iconography were employed in the data analysis. Additionally, an in-depth interview was conducted with key informants, including …
A Critical Discourse Analysis Of News Reports On Covid-19 From The New York Times And China Daily, Yulin Mai, Andrew Jocuns
A Critical Discourse Analysis Of News Reports On Covid-19 From The New York Times And China Daily, Yulin Mai, Andrew Jocuns
Manusya, Journal of Humanities
A multimodal critical discourse analysis of The New York Times and China Daily’s news reports of Covid-19 was conducted to identify the ideologies in Covid-19 news reports. The Covid-19 pandemic was divided into three phases: China’s anti-pandemic phase, first global outbreak, and second global outbreak. The nyt and cd’s Covid-19 news reports not only conveyed facts but also served different ideologies which shifted over each phase. Both the nyt and cd news media employed lexical devices, images, and metaphors to convey different ideologies, shaping people’s perceptions of the pandemic and government measures to control it. The nyt’s Covid-19 reporting …

Covid Implications For Southeastern States: A Thematic Analysis Of Influences From Leaders And Health Agencies Social Media Platforms, Jennifer Suber
Dissertations
The problem investigated in this study was the conflicting social media messages between the Office of the President and the two preeminent national health organizations (the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) at the U.S. National Institutes of Health) regarding the COVID-19 crisis. The purpose of this study was to explore alignment and disconnect in the social media messaging between the Office of the President and the top two health organizations and subsequent state government decisions around the COVID 19 pandemic in the southeast region of the United States. …

Awareness And Prevention Of Syphilis Infections In Women In Pima County, Arizona, Sharon M. Watson
Selected Social Change Portfolios in Prevention, Intervention, and Consultation
Goal Statement: The goal of this social change portfolio is to reduce the rate of syphilis infections in women by increasing the availability of comprehensive sexual health education, improving the accessibility of affordable and free healthcare and STI/D testing, and developing community intervention programs that address the additional risk factors that contribute to the rise in syphilis rates.
Significant Findings: Arizona has had a 449% increase in syphilis rates in women since 2015, with Pima County ranking as the county with the second-highest increase in rates (AZDHS, 2023). These startling increases in rates are clearly evident across the nation. The …

Choose-Your-Own Adventure In Marketing Education: Empowering Students To Increase Engagement And Rigor Through Mass Customization, Jonathan Ross Gilbert, Mario V. Gonzalez Fuentes
School of Business Faculty Research
The landscape of student tolerance for ambiguity and engagement, both in and out of the classroom, has changed markedly in recently years. Technology is simultaneously redefining the boundaries of learning and eroding tried and true pedagogical structures. Signs of change were present prior to recent global upheaval. However, against the backdrop of the pandemic, students connected with others online and consumed media in new and different ways that have arguably emboldened a do-it-yourself attitude toward learning. The authors argue that this learning breakdown, exacerbated by loosened course structures (if not standards), is rooted in psychological ownership. Empowerment theory is employed …
Recognition And Prevention Of Lgbtq+ Youth Depression And Suicide In Rural Minnesota, Kendra Rinn
Recognition And Prevention Of Lgbtq+ Youth Depression And Suicide In Rural Minnesota, Kendra Rinn
Selected Social Change Portfolios in Prevention, Intervention, and Consultation
Goal Statement: For this project, my goal is to have a better understanding of the issues rural LGBTQ+ youth face and identify resources and a plan that can lead to the recognition and prevention of LGBTQ+ depression and suicide.
Significant Findings: The LGBTQ+ youth population within rural Minnesota faces mental health challenges, discrimination within the community and schools, and parental support issues (Trevor Project, 2021; Reisner et al., 2020). This population also has multiple barriers to quality care, supportive resources, and access to an accepting community (Israel, Willging, & Ley, 2016). Due to these socio-ecological aspects, LGBTQ+ youth who live …

Spirituality, Religiosity, And Happiness : Identifying The Nexus, Lok Sang Ho
Spirituality, Religiosity, And Happiness : Identifying The Nexus, Lok Sang Ho
SERC Working Paper Series
Using data from 52 countries in wave 5 of the World Value Survey conducted during 2004 and 2008, we test two alternative approaches in spirituality measures. The first is based on the more traditional understanding that spirituality is associated with meanings, God, prayers/meditation, and formal religions. The second is based on the common spiritual teachings of all the major religions that is summarized by the LIFE (Love, Insight or Wisdom, Fortitude, and Engagement) framework proposed by Ho (2014). It was found that this alternative approach, which focuses on the spiritual teachings rather than theology, offers better explanatory power for Total …

Women Migrant Workers And Their Transition Across State Boundaries : Labour Exporting Policies Of Bangladesh And The Reality, Rasel Hussain, S. M. Anowarul Kayes Shimul
Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) Working Paper Series
Women’s labor migration from Bangladesh gained traction in 2013. According to the Bureau of Manpower, Employment, and Training, a total of 2,91,098 Bangladeshi women moved for employment between 2015 and 2019. However, the most difficult challenge Bangladesh has is the repatriation of the majority of them from Middle Eastern nations owing to violence at the destination, which includes overwork, forced imprisonment, non-payment of salaries, malnutrition, and emotional, physical, and sexual assault. The death toll is also rising, expressing concern about migration policy. As a result, the study seeks to determine the extent to which the structure of Bangladesh’s female labor …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This study explores the impact of different demographic characteristics on the purchasing factors of Thai weaving products. Through a quantitative survey of consumers, this study identifies the key factors that influence their purchasing decisions, including quality, cultural connotation, service, price, comfort level, maintenance, product variety, design, color, sales location, brand, and recommendations. The analysis reveals significant differences in the importance ratings of these factors based on age, gender, and monthly income level. The findings indicate that female consumers value comfort, design, and color more, while younger consumers emphasize price, design and variety more. In contrast, older consumers value quality, comfort …

The purpose of this book is to help you write your next literature review. This is true whether you are crafting one for an undergraduate midterm paper, a doctoral dissertation, or working on your first manuscript for a peer review publication. For years, as professors we have read the best and worst of what students have written in our classes. We have witnessed in a handful of instances, undergraduate writers write more masterfully than doctoral students. We have witnessed doctoral students write first year papers which were ready for publication. And of course, the opposite is true. This begs, the …

There is a growing consensus that to effectively adapt to climate change, cities need userfriendly tools and reliable high-resolution biophysical and socio-economic data for analysis, mapping, modeling, and visualization. This study examines the availability of various types of information used in climate adaptation plans of 40 municipalities with a population of less than 300,000 people in the United States and France, probing into the choice and usage of relevant information by small municipalities. We argue that non-climatic spatial data, such as population demographic and socioeconomic patterns, urban infrastructure, and environmental data must be integrated with climate tools and datasets to …
