An Open-Source Evaluation Framework For Risc-V Co-Design-Based Decimal Arithmetic, Riaz Ul Haque Mian, Michiko Inoue
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Hardware–software co-design is a balanced strategy for computationally intensive algorithms such as decimal computing. It can provide several Pareto points for the development of embedded systems in terms of hardware cost and performance. In this study, we propose an efficient and accurate evaluation framework for decimal computing. The framework was designed and developed for hardware–software co-design decimal arithmetic using the RISC-V ecosystem. New binary and decimal-oriented instructions supported by an accelerator were developed. The framework can perform cycle-accurate analysis for performance and assess hardware overhead for co-design-based decimal arithmetic. Unlike previous studies that focused primarily on implementing and evaluating individual …

The Effect Of Acculturation On Equine Assisted Psychotherapy Satisfaction With Indigenous Populations, Reagan Joseph Alsbaugh
The Effect Of Acculturation On Equine Assisted Psychotherapy Satisfaction With Indigenous Populations, Reagan Joseph Alsbaugh
Theses and Dissertations
Past research has suggested that equine-assisted psychotherapy may be an effective, culturally relevant treatment modality for Indigenous individuals with substance-use disorders. The literature also suggests that mental health outcomes may be mediated by an Indigenous individual’s level of acculturation. It was hypothesized that individuals who were traditional or bicultural would report higher levels of satisfaction with their experiences in equine therapy than those who are assimilated or marginal. There were 17 Native American participants who had completed at least 4 weeks of an equine-assisted therapy program who participated in the study. Of the participants, 8 were traditional and 9 were …

Effects Of A Rear-Flank Storm Interaction On Supercell Behavior And Tornado-Like Vortex Development In Idealized Simulations, Kyle Joseph Gillett
Theses and Dissertations
Observationally, storm interactions have been associated with changes in severe convective storm behavior and evolution, including the development and maintenance of tornadoes. In particular, the interaction of neighboring convection in or near the rear flank of a supercell thunderstorm has frequently been associated with tornadogenesis. Although statistical relationships associated with these behavioral changes have been established, the physical mechanisms governing their evolution remain poorly understood. Presented are two sets of numerical experiments, each consisting of five idealized model simulations. One experiment set simulates a discrete “parent” supercell thunderstorm, while the other simulates the same “parent” subjected to a rear-flank interaction …

Deep Learning For Lithium-Ion Battery Status Monitoring: Robust State-Of-Charge And Trustworthy State-Of-Health Estimation, Mingwei Lei
Theses and Dissertations
In electric vehicle and energy storage applications, the reliable operation of safety-critical battery management systems (BMS) relies on accurate, real-time estimation of the state of charge (SOC) and state of health (SOH). Although data-driven methods show great potential, their practical application is primarily constrained by two major challenges. First, battery operation under real-world conditions involves continuously varying factors—such as temperature, aging stages, and dynamic cell characteristics—making it impossible to exhaustively cover all scenarios during laboratory data collection. This discrepancy often leads to a significant decline in estimation performance due to the domain shift problem. Second, engineering practice requires a balance …

Democracy requires maintenance from an active, informed citizenry, yet civic literacy in the United States has been rapidly declining while its democratic structures face systematic subversion. To reverse this, educational researchers have recommended increasing time for K–12 civics education. While devoting more time to middle school civics education could help rebuild a civically literate citizenry, public middle schools face the unique challenge of teaching a student population that is experiencing rapid physical and psychological development, alongside a well-documented dip in academic motivation and engagement. Tailoring civics education to be academically motivating to the current student demographic—Generation Alpha—requires an understanding of …
Emotional And Physical Neglect As Predictors Of Mcmi-Iv Personality Scales, Jenna Wolff
Emotional And Physical Neglect As Predictors Of Mcmi-Iv Personality Scales, Jenna Wolff
Theses and Dissertations
Theodore Millon (2011) proposed that specific developmental experiences and childhood adversities contribute to personality pathology, although these hypotheses have received limited empirical investigation. Participants (N = 490) completed the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory-IV (MCMI-IV) and self-report measures of childhood adversity. Hierarchical ordinal regression analyses examined whether childhood adversities predicted elevations across MCMI-IV personality scales after controlling for age, gender, and co-occurring abuse. Although neglect was the primary focus of the study, childhood physical and emotional abuse emerged as the most consistent predictors across models. Both forms of abuse significantly predicted elevated masochistic, borderline, and schizotypal personality scores. Emotional abuse uniquely …

The 2q31 region is commonly associated with pathogenic alleles of the HOXD cluster leading to various clinical phenotypes related to skeletal development. We present a proband with tetralogy of Fallot and multiple congenital anomalies. Genomic variant screening including an in-house CGR detection pipeline pairing genome sequencing (GS) structural variant calls with read-depth data revealed a de novo complex genomic rearrangement (CGR) spanning 2.7 Mb across 2q31 characterized by a series of duplications and triplications including the HOXD gene cluster. The genomic structure was assembled by applying combined methodologies including short-read and long-read GS, and optical genome mapping (OGM). This in-house …

GLP-1RAs are increasingly used for their glucose-lowering and weight-management effects, but many patients discontinue them. In this narrative review we aim to review real-world, quantitative and qualitative GLP-1RA discontinuation, adherence, and persistence evidence as it aligns with an established conceptual framework for understanding medication adherence in noncommunicable chronic disease. Many inconsistencies exist in how discontinuation, adherence, and persistence are studied in this literature. Few qualitative studies have focused on discontinuation of GLP-1RAs. Quantitative approaches often focus on medication-related factors and more superficial aspects of socioeconomic and condition-related factors. Very few studies encompass all 5 dimensions of the medication adherence conceptual …

Preterm birth disrupts nutrient-responsive signaling pathways critical for skeletal muscle growth and long-term metabolic health. Despite improvements in neonatal care, preterm infants often experience postnatal growth failure marked by impaired lean mass accretion. This review examines how prematurity intrinsically alters insulin and amino acid signaling to mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1), a central regulator of translation initiation and protein synthesis. Evidence from translational models reveals blunted activation of mTORC1 and its downstream effectors, independent of birth weight or comorbidities. Defects in insulin-PDK1/mTORC2-Akt signaling and amino acid sensing, particularly leucine sensing, contribute to impaired mTORC1-dependent translation initiation and reduced …

Background: Firearm injuries are the leading cause of death among US adolescents. Adolescents are among the highest risk, and those with nonfatal injuries experience high rates of reinjury. Identifying factors that predict firearm reinjury among adolescents may support tailored prevention strategies. This study sought to identify factors associated with firearm reinjury among adolescents who presented with acute nonfatal firearm injury in the St. Louis, Missouri region.
Methods: We conducted a multicenter observational cohort study of youth aged 15 to 17 years presenting to 2 adult and 2 pediatric trauma centers from 2010 through 2023. We collected data on firearm-injured patient …
