Analyzing Focus Groups Through Poetic Dialogues: Enhancing Participant Engagement And Representation In Program Evaluation, Catherine E. Sanders, Alexa J. Lamm, Jori N. Hall, Abigail Borron, Maria Navarro, James C. Anderson Ii

The Qualitative Report

Evaluating programs in rural communities can present challenges when large, observable successes, such as infrastructure additions, are limited due to resource challenges. These successes are often quantifiable and easily identified by external stakeholders. However, there are often intangible and social impacts that should be captured as successes of rural community-focused programs that may not fit the more quantitative methodology. Arts-based methodologies, like poetic analysis, can help capture the diverse impacts of a program, while also centering the voices of program participants in the evaluation itself. This study examined the use of poetic dialogues, an application of poetic transcriptions for focus …

Robust Contraction Decomposition For Minor-Free Graphs And Its Applications, Bandyapadhyay Sayan, William Lochet, Daniel Lokshtanov, Dániel Marx, Pranabendu Misra, Multiple Additional Authors

Computer Science Faculty Publications and Presentations

We prove a robust contraction decomposition theorem for H-minor-free graphs, which states that given an H-minor-free graph G and an integer p, one can partition in polynomial time the vertices of G into p sets Z₁,… ,Z_p such that tw(G/(Z_i ⧵ Z')) = O(p + |Z'|) for all i ∈ [p] and Z' ⊆ Z_i. Here, tw(⋅) denotes the treewidth of a graph and G/(Z_i ⧵ Z') denotes the graph obtained from G by contracting all edges with both endpoints in Z_i ⧵ Z'. Our result generalizes earlier results by Klein [SICOMP 2008] and Demaine et al. [STOC 2011] based …

Data-Driven Constrained Control, Ali Kashani

Mechanical Engineering ETDs

Ensuring safety is a fundamental challenge. Traditional methods often rely on precise mathematical models, which are difficult, impractical, or costly to obtain for real-world systems with complex, nonlinear dynamics. This dissertation develops direct data-driven control approaches that enable safe and efficient operation of nonlinear systems without requiring explicit models or performing system identification. This effort leverages machine learning, optimization, and control theory to bridge theoretical rigor and practical applicability. Deterministic guarantees are provided based on the Lipschitz continuity of the system, and probabilistic guarantees through scenario optimization. The computation of safe sets is performed using one-shot approaches with broad neural …

Al-Qadisiyah Medical Journal

The clinical presentation of COVID-19 varies greatly from case to another, with host characteristics playing a pivotal role. The immune system is a pivotal function in establishing the course of SARS-COV-2 infection. Severe instances of COVID-19 and the resulting death are caused less by the virus itself than by the destructive unrestrained immune response. Among the host determinants for poor disease prognosis is probably genetic vulnerability to dysregulated immune response. The objective of this work is to examine some of the host genetic variables that are being studied in relation to the severity of COVID-19. The complex relationship between autoimmunity …
