Optimization And Simulation Of Adaptive Production Scheduling Based On Hybrid Decision-Making Mechanism, Zhicheng Ji, Zhen Quan, Yan Wang
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: To optimize flexible production scheduling with the objectives of the longest makespan, mean tardiness, and bottleneck machine processing load rate, a hybrid decision-making mechanism scheduling algorithm was proposed based on the decision complexity and constraint characteristics of machine assignment and task sequencing. The algorithm adopted a two-dimensional chromosome to encode machine assignment and a heuristic rule to evaluate task sequencing priority, enhancing the adaptability of the method to decision-making optimization. In order to further improve the performance of the proposed scheduling method, an adaptive rule strategy was designed based on the distribution of processing time required for waiting scheduling …

Stoners, Walnuts, Stockings, And Guns: A Material History Of Modern Firearms, Aiden Mashaal
History Summer Fellows
The study of firearms as material objects is notably rare among academic historians. It is relegated mainly to the pages of firearms magazines and carried out by journalists, gun collectors and enthusiasts, and gun manufacturers. Although they provide valuable information to readers outside of academia, it is long past due to observe the history of guns according to scholarly standards. This study provides a concise analysis of firearms history, focusing on the materials used in the manufacture of modern firearms—aluminum alloy and polymers. It explores the successes and failures of guns that used such materials in order to explain how …

In this study, a new formula for single particle level density was found from experimental values of single particle level density using the curve fitting. This new formula was substituted in Ericson's formula which is used to calculate the partial level density in pre-equilibrium nuclear reactions and in the corrected formulas of William's formula, spin corrected formula and surface formula. The results for each formula were compared with the results for the same formula using single particle level density from the equidistant spacing model ESM. It was noticed that there is good agreement between the results of single particle level …
Granulocyte-Colony Stimulating Factor Effects On The Mesolimbic Dopamine Circuitry And Adaptations With Chronic Ethanol Exposure, Rachel Ji-Hyae Campbell
Granulocyte-Colony Stimulating Factor Effects On The Mesolimbic Dopamine Circuitry And Adaptations With Chronic Ethanol Exposure, Rachel Ji-Hyae Campbell
Theses and Dissertations
The mesolimbic dopamine (DA) system contributes to reward and reinforcement learning for ethanol (EtOH). The nucleus accumbens (NAc) receives DA input from the ventral tegmental area (VTA) encoding rewarding information. Acute EtOH increases NAc DA levels, and this DA response is attenuated with chronic EtOH exposure. Furthermore, chronic EtOH results in reduced DA release, increased DA clearance and presynaptic D2-type auto-receptor sensitization. Further research into EtOH-induced neural adaptations that modulate NAc DA release is explored herein, including changes in cholinergic interneurons (CIN), which are known regulators of DA transmission. One potential class of regulators are immune related cytokines, that can …
Source Characterization From Near-Field Acoustic Intensity On Moving Launch Vehicles, Carson F. Cunningham
Source Characterization From Near-Field Acoustic Intensity On Moving Launch Vehicles, Carson F. Cunningham
Theses and Dissertations
Rocket launches generate extremely high acoustic levels, particularly in the low-frequency range, posing risks to both launch vehicle integrity and surrounding infrastructure. This thesis investigates the use of near-field acoustic intensity measurements to localize sound sources on moving launch vehicles, with a focus on characterizing source behavior during the early phases of liftoff. Using data from the Antares 230 NG-19 mission, acoustic pressure was recorded at multiple stations surrounding the pad, and the Phase and Amplitude Gradient Estimator (PAGE) method was employed to compute intensity vectors as a function of frequency and time. Signal processing parameters were systematically evaluated, including …

Physical activity interventions effectively improve physical activity (i.e., daily step count) and reduce the risk of adverse health outcomes in persons with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), but effects on depression and anxiety are poorly understood. Behavioral interventions concurrently targeting both physical activity and mood symptoms are needed in this population. This paper describes acceptability testing and refinement of Step-CBT, a synchronous, video-delivered, pedometer-based physical activity intervention integrated with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to improve step count in individuals with COPD; physical disability and depression and anxiety symptoms are secondary outcomes. Adults (N = 5) with COPD and clinically significant …

While past research has predominantly focused on the role of myoglobin in meat color, investigations into the contributions of hemoglobin and cytochrome c are limited. Cytochrome c has the highest redox stability (P < 0.05), followed by myoglobin and hemoglobin. Electrochemistry analysis revealed that cytochrome c has a greater capacity (P < 0.05) to reduce than myoglobin and hemoglobin. Differential scanning calorimetry indicates that cytochrome c was most stable to heat (P < 0.05), while no differences were noted between myoglobin and hemoglobin. Structural analysis noted that greater heat and redox stability of cytochrome c might be attributed to fewer histidine residues (3) and more covalent bonds (4) than myoglobin (13), hemoglobin α (10), and hemoglobin β (6). This study suggests that the amino acid sequence and number of covalent bonds can impact the redox stability and heat-induced denaturation properties of myoglobin, hemoglobin, and cytochrome c.

The universally conserved α-oxoaldehydes glyoxal (GO) and methylglyoxal (MGO) are toxic metabolic byproducts whose accumulation can lead to cell death. In the absence of a known, natural inducer of the GO-specific response in prokaryotes, we exploited RNA-seq to define a GO response in the bacterial pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The highest upregulated operon consisted of the known glyoxalase (gloA2) and an antibiotic monooxygenase (ABM) domain of unknown function - renamed here Aldehyde responsive quorum-sensing Inhibitor (ArqI). The arqI-gloA2 operon is highly specific to GO induction and ArqI protein responds by migrating to the flagellar pole. An ArqI atomic structure revealed several …

Immune cells with immunoregulatory properties are recruited to the surface of the lens in the Experimental Autoimmune Uveitis (EAU) mouse and remain linked through resolution of EAU inflammation. Since protein components of the extracellular matrix provide biochemical and mechanical signals that regulate immune cell migration and phenotype, we investigated whether EAU inflammation caused matrix molecules to become associated with the lens surface. We focused on matrix proteins known to influence leukocyte phenotype and behavior, and/or lead to pathological outcomes in uveitis. We found that fibrinogen became associated with the lens capsule surface by the peak of EAU inflammation and increased …

Abstract: As a pivotal approach supporting the safety verification and commercial implementation of intelligent driving systems, autonomous driving simulation testing has achieved remarkable progress in technical methodologies and application scenarios. Conventional real-world road testing faces critical limitations including prohibitive costs, inadequate coverage of corner case scenarios, and efficiency bottlenecks, rendering it insufficient for safety validation of high-level autonomous driving systems (L4 and above). To address these challenges, simulation testing frameworks have evolved into a multi-layered verification system encompassing mathematical modeling, virtual scenarios, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), mixed reality, and cloud-based simulation clusters. Specifically, mathematical modeling accelerates algorithm development; virtual scenario simulation enhances …

Abstract: Social experiments, as a typical research method in social sciences, aim to study specific social phenomena or the impacts of policies by observing the behaviors of individuals, organizations, or social groups in real or simulated environments. However, traditional social experiment methods often face challenges such as random bias, high costs, and ethical risks, making them inadequate to address increasingly complex research demands. Against this backdrop, computational social experiments have emerged, enabling researchers to conduct social experiments within computational simulation environments that are free from random bias, cost-efficient, and ethically manageable. Meanwhile, China is currently undergoing a critical period of …

Spatially indirect excitons in semiconductor quantum wells are relevant to basic research and device applications because they exhibit enhanced tunability, delocalized wave functions, and potentially longer lifetimes relative to direct excitons. Here we investigate the properties of indirect excitons and their coupling interactions with direct excitons in asymmetric InGaAs double quantum wells using optical multidimensional coherent spectroscopy and photoluminescence excitation spectroscopy. Analyses of the spectra confirm a strong influence of many-body effects and reveal that excited-state zero-quantum coherences between direct and indirect excitons in the quantum wells dephase faster than the much-higher-energy single-quantum coherences between excitonic excited states and ground …

Background
Physical activity is essential for children’s health. Primary schools offer an opportunity to equitably promote physical activity. However, school-based interventions have been shown to have little to no effect, potentially due to a lack of consideration of school heterogeneity. This study reports on a rapid ethnography study that was used to capture insights into English primary schools physical activity. The data are intended to inform the design of a context-specific intervention to improve pupil physical activity.
Methods
Three researchers conducted a four-month rapid ethnography study within three primary schools in Bristol, UK, between March and July 2024. Several methods …

A Two-Stage Dual-Task Learning Strategy For Early Prediction Of Pathological Complete Response To Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy For Breast Cancer Using Dynamic Contrast-Enhanced Magnetic Resonance Images, Bowen Jing, Jing Wang
Faculty, Staff and Student Publications
Early prediction of treatment response can facilitate personalized treatment for breast cancer patients. Studies on the I-SPY 2 clinical trial demonstrate that multi-time point dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance (DCEMR) imaging improves the accuracy of predicting pathological complete response (pCR) to chemotherapy. However, previous image-based prediction models usually rely on mid- or post-treatment images to ensure the accuracy of prediction, which may outweigh the benefit of response-based adaptive treatment strategy. Accurately predicting the pCR at the early time point is desired yet remains challenging. To improve prediction accuracy at the early time point of treatment, we proposed a two-stage dual-task learning …

A clear common method in solving some types of nonlinear problems is to exchange the original problem with a collection of regularized problems and all these regularized problems have exactly one solution. A particular solution of the original problem will be obtained as a limit of these unique solutions of the regularized problems. This idea is used to provide a method for the hierarchical fixed point approach to solving variational inequality problems (VIPs). In this work, we intend to study two new iterative schemes by examining their strong convergence to a common fixed point for mappings defined for a nonempty …

Cancer patients often undergo radiation therapy as part of their treatment plan, and certain levels of zinc are essential for repairing DNA and maintaining our immune system. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the extent of the effect of this type of treatment on the level of zinc in blood serum, as 106 samples were collected from both healthy individuals and cancer patients to measure zinc levels in blood serum. Atomic absorption spectroscopy was used after properly preparing the sample, and the results showed that the healthy group had an average zinc concentration of (1.316 ± 0.10) × 103 …

The current study aims to measure and compare the field width emerging from the radiotherapy linear accelerator in different directions, three dimensions were chosen to measure the field width in an orderly (inline, cross line, diagonal A and B) manner. The 10 Mv and 6 Mv photon beam energies were used, and the Star Track device was adopted to measure the field width in different directions. The radiotherapy linear accelerator at the Baghdad Center for Radiation Therapy and Nuclear Medicine was used every week five weeks. The results recorded that when the energy increased 10 Mv, there was an increase …
