Latina Senior-Level Leaders In 2-Year Public Higher Education Institutions In Texas: A Life Story Narrative Study, Monica Yvette Escobar-Leblanc
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The study was designed to understand the personal and academic experiences of Latinas in senior-level leadership positions in 2-year public higher education institutions in Texas and the impact, if any, of these experiences on their leadership development. Although Latina undergraduate college enrollment has continued to increase, Latinas remain significantly underrepresented in senior-level leadership roles in higher education institutions. Using a life story narrative approach and LatCrit as the theoretical lens, this study examined leadership development across the life span from adolescence to middle adulthood. The thematic analysis of the four Latinas' life story narratives, employed in 2-year public higher education …

Using Equivalence-Based Instruction And Behavioral Skills Training To Teach Social Skills, Alexander Orzeck
Using Equivalence-Based Instruction And Behavioral Skills Training To Teach Social Skills, Alexander Orzeck
Theses
Social skills are an integral part of human life, so it stands to reason that teaching methodologies should be developed to instruct people in this complex topic. One method to teach social skills has been behavioral skills training, in which the four-step sequence of vocal and written instruction, modeling, roleplay, and feedback exposes learners to the social concepts until a mastery criterion is reached. Skills relevant to socialization have also been taught with equivalence-based instruction, in which the concept of stimulus equivalence is employed to generate novel relations between stimuli for the purpose of teaching some skill. College Leaders’ Perspectives Of Diversity At A Community College System In Texas: A Phenomenological Study Of Validation, Xandelyn Wright Washington
College Leaders’ Perspectives Of Diversity At A Community College System In Texas: A Phenomenological Study Of Validation, Xandelyn Wright Washington
All Dissertations
The United States has undergone dramatic changes in student demographics over the last 40 years. Nowhere is this reflected more than in the field of education (Center for Public Education, 2012; Fabina et al., 2023). Disaggregation of student demographics is a useful and common method for measuring student outcomes, and in the United States, non-majority students consistently have lower student outcomes (Gay, 2013; Howard, 2010; Ocay et al., 2023).
Ma and Baum (2016) and McNair et al. (2015) stated that the role of community colleges is pivotal in postsecondary education. As such, college leaders and administrators have focused attention on …

This work presents a novel design of a fault-detecting very large-scale integrated circuit (VLSI), simulation results, and the complete chip layout prepared for fabrication using TSMC 180 nm CMOS technology with λ = 90 nm. SP’s diagnosis …
Breaking Ranks: Recognizing Hiring Bias Associated With Different Military Branches, La Kesha Redel Leonard
Breaking Ranks: Recognizing Hiring Bias Associated With Different Military Branches, La Kesha Redel Leonard
All Dissertations
This study aimed to address the gap in research on hiring biases against military veterans, with a focus on branch-specific discrimination. While prior research has examined general veteran employment challenges, no existing scholarly studies have explored how stereotypes tied to a veteran’s branch of service influence hiring outcomes. Current approaches, such as diversity and inclusion policies and skills translation programs, overlook subtle yet impactful branch-related implicit and explicit biases against candidates from different branches of the U.S military during the hiring process, leaving a critical gap in workforce reintegration strategies. The purpose of this study was aimed to examine how …

Natural resources published reports
Soils are enormously diverse and can be very confusing to understand and talk about. This simple guide for describing soils helps to identify the most important parts of a soil profile and provide an easy way to understand and explain what you see. It gives you a step-by-step guide of what soil properties to describe and how to describe them, along with the tools to make basic soil classifications. The soil descriptors help you to identify the soil type and aid in assigning a simple and standardised name to the soil. While this guide is designed to link with a …
Rethinking Iterative Proportional Fitting: Scalable And Hybrid Approaches To Joint Distribution Fitting, William Ofosu Agyapong
Rethinking Iterative Proportional Fitting: Scalable And Hybrid Approaches To Joint Distribution Fitting, William Ofosu Agyapong
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
The Iterative Proportional Fitting (IPF) algorithm is widely used in contingency table estimation, survey weighting, and synthetic population generation due to its simplicity and strong theoretical foundation for matching observed marginal distributions. However, in high-dimensional settings, IPF faces substantial computational and memory demands, as well as statistical instability caused by sparse contingency tables. Moreover, IPF is less useful in modern population synthesis tasks that require both scalability and realism because, despite its superiority in matching known marginal distributions, it cannot produce realistic out-of-sample data points. To address these limitations, we first propose a blockwise IPF framework, in which the feature …

Stress-Survival Pathway Genes In Colorectal Cancer: Crc Progression And Hispanic Disparities, Highlighting Mcm10 As A Potential Player, Urbashi Basnet
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
Despite advances in screening and treatment, colorectal cancer (CRC) remains a leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the U.S., with notable disparities across racial and ethnic groups. Hispanic populations face a disproportionate burden, underscoring significant differences in incidence and outcomes. This study examines the role of the Stress-Survival Pathway (SSP) in colorectal cancer (CRC), with a focus on addressing health disparities among Hispanic populations. Twenty-eight differentially expressed SSP genes identified from bioinformatic analysis were validated in CRC cell lines and cDNA arrays using qRT-PCR and tissue microarrays by immunohistochemistry. SSP genes were further analyzed in CRC tissues from Hispanic and …

Crossing Borders: Analyzing The Factors Contributing To Healthcare And Reproductive Preferences Among Residents Of The Texas-Mexico Border, Yamaris Michelle Cordero
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
Crossing Borders: Analyzing the Factors Contributing to Healthcare and Reproductive Preferences Among Residents of the Texas-Mexico Border explores the complexities of healthcare access and utilization among border residents, particularly in the context of reproductive health. Through qualitative analysis of focus group discussions with promotoras - community health workers - this study identifies key factors influencing cross-border healthcare decisions, including economic barriers, cultural influences, and perceptions of quality. The findings reveal that high costs and limited insurance coverage in the U.S. drive many individuals to seek affordable healthcare and medications in Mexico, where pharmacies provide immediate, low-cost services without the need …
Mechanical Characterization Of M Plane (10-10) And C Plane (0001) Gallium Nitride Semiconductors Via Spherical Nanoindentation, Daniela Alejandra Duarte
Mechanical Characterization Of M Plane (10-10) And C Plane (0001) Gallium Nitride Semiconductors Via Spherical Nanoindentation, Daniela Alejandra Duarte
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
Gallium nitride's (GaN) mechanical characterization is essential for evaluating its performance and long-term dependability, especially when subjected to mechanical stress and irradiation. The design and optimization of GaN-based devices, which are extensively employed in high-power electronics and optoelectronics, depend on an understanding of these characteristics. Mechanical characterization allows for the evaluation of key characteristics, including stress distributions, representing the spatial variation of internal stresses under applied loading, and pop-in events, which correspond to abrupt displacements associated with the onset of dislocation nucleation and slip. These features are essential for understanding the anisotropic (direction-dependent) response of the material to external forces …

Navigating Spaces: Understanding Lgbtq+ Families Who Homeschool Amid Shifting Legislative And Societal Landscapes, Ana Ferrante
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
This qualitative case study explored the motivations and lived experiences of caregivers of LGBTQ+ youth who chose homeschooling amid escalating anti-LGBTQ+ legislation in the United States. Guided by Self-Determination Theory (SDT) (Deci and Ryan, 1980) and Queer Theory (Chevrette, 2013), the study examined how caregivers navigated educational decisions to construct affirming, identity-conscious learning environments in response to exclusionary policies and systemic marginalization. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews with four caregivers residing in politically conservative states in the U.S.. The findings revealed that homeschooling functioned both as a protective measure against institutional harm and as a proactive strategy for fostering …
Terrane Accretion In The Trollheimen And Dovrefjell Regions Of The Scandinavian Caledonides, Norway, Stephanie Georgevich
Terrane Accretion In The Trollheimen And Dovrefjell Regions Of The Scandinavian Caledonides, Norway, Stephanie Georgevich
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
Following closure of the Iapetus Ocean, the paleocontinents of Laurentia and Baltica collided to form the Caledonian Orogeny. During this closure and subsequent collision, island arc terranes and microcontinents were accreted and subducted underneath the Norwegian continental margin. These terranes are preserved in central Norway, specifically in the Dovrefjell and Trollheimen mountain ranges. The order in which these terranes accreted to the continent and when this occurred is not well understood. To determine this stacking order, I will be using P-T path modeling, U-Pb zircon dating, and structural position. Knowing the degree, progression, and geologic age of metamorphism, and tectonostratigraphic …

The Origin And Geologic History Of Dolostones Associated With The Moab Valley Salt Wall, Paradox Basin, Utah, Charles Ojodale Igomu, Charles Ojodale Igomu
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
This thesis investigates the origin and geologic context of dolostones associated with the Moab Valley salt wall in southeastern Utah, a feature within the broader Paradox Basin that offers an exceptional opportunity to study the interplay between carbonate sedimentation, diagenesis, and salt diapirism. The fundamental research question focuses on evaluating whether dolostones observed in the Moab Valley are all depositional, diagenetic or structurally reworked components of deeper stratigraphy, and how their presence and geometry relate to the halokinetic processes that shaped sedimentation across the Moab Valley. This study tested the hypothesis that dolostones within Moab Valley represent a mixed assemblage …
Simultaneous Selection Of Inflations And Variables In Multiple Inflations Poisson Model (Mip), John Koomson
Simultaneous Selection Of Inflations And Variables In Multiple Inflations Poisson Model (Mip), John Koomson
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
Count data frequently arise in biomedical, economic, and social science research and are often characterized by structural excesses at specific count levels. To accommodate such patterns, Su et al. (2013), among others, introduced the Multiple-Inflation Poisson (MIP) model, which allows for multiple inflated counts within the distribution. However, two critical challenges remain in modeling such data: (i) identifying the true inflation points where excess counts occur, and (ii) selecting the relevant covariates that explain variation in the inflation and count process. This dissertation addresses these issues by advancing the MIP model through a novel methodology that enables the simultaneous selection …
