Exploring The Relationship Of Integrated Behavioral And Primary Healthcare With Wellness Profiles: Implications For Counseling Practice, Alexander M. Fields, Dodie Limberg, Angie Starrett
The Journal of Integrated Primary Care
This study utilizes the Indivisible Self Model (IS-WEL) and latent profile analysis (LPA) to investigate the relationship between integrated behavioral and primary healthcare and wellness profiles. A national sample of 466 adults who received counseling services within the last year completed surveys assessing wellness (5F-WEL), integrated care levels, and demographic variables. LPA identified four wellness profiles: Comfortably Well, Managed Well, Approaching Well, and Disconnected Well, each associated with unique demographic, physical, and mental health characteristics. Despite theoretical links between integrated care and wellness, the relationship between reported levels of care integration and wellness profiles was not statistically significant, highlighting limitations …

Counselor Educators’ Experiences Teaching About Integrated Behavioral Healthcare, Lauren B. Robins, Clarence K. Bumpas, Cearra Arnold, Deonna Stinson, Samantha Ewing, Bre Williams
The Journal of Integrated Primary Care
Counselor education gradually integrates training for practice in Integrated Behavioral Healthcare (IBH), where mental and physical health services collaborate to improve client outcomes. Despite its benefits, IBH education remains inconsistent, leaving many graduates underprepared for interdisciplinary settings. This qualitative study explores counselor educators’ experiences teaching IBH, identifying challenges, strategies, and best practices for improving student readiness. Findings highlight the need for structured training, interdisciplinary collaboration, and faculty development to advance IBH integration in counseling curricula.
The Impact Of Incarceration On Men’S Mental Health, Shannon Williams, Shannon Williams
The Impact Of Incarceration On Men’S Mental Health, Shannon Williams, Shannon Williams
Master of Arts in Human Services
This capstone research paper examines the mental health crisis among incarcerated men in the United States, a population disproportionately affected by mental illness, racial inequality, and systemic neglect. Incarcerated males often enter correctional facilities with pre-existing mental health conditions such as major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and substance use disorders. Rather than receiving adequate treatment, these individuals are frequently exposed to environments that worsen their conditions. Practices such as solitary confinement, loss of privileges, and isolation from support systems contribute to emotional instability, trauma, and, in some cases, suicidal ideation. This paper explores how detention …
Using Vegetation Communities To Compare Natural And Constructed Wetlands In The Red River Basin In Texas And Louisiana, Kennedi K. Davis
Using Vegetation Communities To Compare Natural And Constructed Wetlands In The Red River Basin In Texas And Louisiana, Kennedi K. Davis
Biology Theses
Wetland vegetation provides an abundance of ecosystem services such as water quality regulation, flood control, and it provides habitat space for fish, amphibians, and macroinvertebrates. Not only that, but these plants also act as excellent indicators of wetland conditions as dominant vegetation types are often used as biological criteria for classifying wetlands and other habitats (Cowardin and Golet, 1995). This project will assess the structure of vegetation communities to determine how they differ in constructed and natural wetlands within the Red River drainage basin to see if Agricultural Conservation Easement Program – Wetland Reserve Easement (ACEP-WRE) constructed wetlands are effective …

Aryl alkyl sulfones are an important class of compounds in drug discovery; thus, new methods toward their synthesis are desirable. A general sulfur fluoride exchange (SuFEx) method to couple aryl sulfonyl fluorides with alkyl carbon pronucleophiles to make aryl alkyl sulfones is described. The reaction was applied to a diverse set of pronucleophiles, including esters, amides, heteroarenes, nitriles, sulfones, sulfoxides, and sulfonamides, at room temperature under mild conditions. We highlight the application of this transformation in parallel medicinal chemistry for the high-throughput generation of a broad array of aryl alkyl sulfones. Lastly, we apply this method to the late-state SuFEx …

Machine Learning-Enhanced Optimization For The Real-Time, Secure, And Efficient Operation Of The Energy-Water-Hydrogen Nexus, Mostafa Goodarzi
Graduate Thesis and Dissertation post-2024
Given the escalating urgency of climate change, our research addresses the imperative need to curb carbon emissions, particularly from the electricity sector, which accounts for a quarter of total emissions in the U.S. We propose integrated systems, such as the energy-water nexus (EWN) and an innovative concept known as the energy-water-hydrogen (EWH) nexus, which integrates renewable energy sources (RESs) with green hydrogen production through water electrolysis. These concepts align seamlessly with the nation’s commitment to global climate agreements, including the Paris Agreement. Furthermore, green hydrogen—a clean and efficient energy source produced via water electrolysis powered by renewable energy—emerges as a …

Sex Estimation Using Linear And Geometric Morphometric Analyses Of The Adult Human Talus, Melissa N. Marks
Sex Estimation Using Linear And Geometric Morphometric Analyses Of The Adult Human Talus, Melissa N. Marks
Graduate Thesis and Dissertation post-2024
Estimating biological sex is an essential first step when analyzing human remains in both forensic and archaeological contexts. While the pelvis and skull are traditionally used for this purpose, they are not always present or sufficiently preserved to permit analysis. The talus is sexually dimorphic and can yield highly accurate sex estimates, making it a promising alternative skeletal element for sex estimation. As there is currently no accepted protocol for sex estimation using the talus, the present study attempts to replicate and validate existing methods using linear and three-dimensional landmark data, while comparing data from ancient Maya (n=16), ancient Egyptian …
A Forgotten Kairos: Rhetorical Memory In 16th Century Europe, Phillip Martin
A Forgotten Kairos: Rhetorical Memory In 16th Century Europe, Phillip Martin
Graduate Thesis and Dissertation post-2024
In 16th century Europe the nearly 2000-year-old discipline of rhetoric, still a pillar of education, underwent significant change. One of the more curious changes occurred in rhetoric’s subdivision known as memory, memoria, that is, memory’s “artificial” cultivation. During the 16th century rhetorical memory was paradoxically both maximized and marginalized as a discipline. And by the early 17th century memoria was all but extinct as a branch of rhetoric. The causal mechanisms of this transformation remain underexamined, particularly by rhetoric and composition scholars, and most explanations remain unclear and uncompelling. Accordingly, this thesis attempts a new approach …

A Community-Based Wellness Program To Increase Exercise Adherence For Menopausal And Postmenopausal Women: A Mixed-Methods Pilot Study, Kristin M. Badillo
Graduate Thesis and Dissertation post-2024
Evidence exists that long-term commitment to an exercise routine is beneficial. Contrarily, there is a notable lack in exercise adherence among menopausal and postmenopausal women. Though research has thoroughly examined the reasons why menopausal and postmenopausal women may not be committed to an exercise routine, it remains unclear what motivates those who are adherent. This pilot study employed a mixed-methods design through administering surveys and conducting in-person focus group interviews. Additionally, an 8-week buddy system was implemented to assess the role of social support and its effect on exercise adherence. For quantitative data collection, a total of 7 participants enrolled …

Nou La, We Are Here: A Phenomenological Study On Haitian Students' Identity Development In College, Norma J. Altidor
Graduate Thesis and Dissertation post-2024
The United States has seen an increase of individuals migrating from Haiti in search of better opportunities for themselves and their families (Camarota, 2024; Ogunwole, Battle & Cohen, 2017). That rise has correlated with an increase in the number of Haitian students enrolling in American higher education institutions. There are many published studies on the experiences of minorities based on race (Harper & Quaye, 2007) compared to studies on ethnically diverse students (Dennis, Phinney & Chuateco, 2005). Existing literature shows that immigrant youth and first-generation Americans often identify more with their ethnicity than their race (Tatum, 1997). As such, there …

It's Been Here All Along: Increasing Discomfort In Immersive Horror Puzzle Experiences Without Jump Scares, Brittany R. Porthouse
Graduate Thesis and Dissertation post-2024
This thesis seeks to utilize horror themes in a puzzle-based themed experience without the usage of jump scares. By alerting the body’s startle response once a puzzle is completed with a sudden loud noise or visuals, many horror-themed escape rooms utilize the jump scare tactic to heighten their guests’ adrenaline. While this technique is often effective in eliciting a reaction from participants, the effects are temporary– and sometimes hinder participants’ desire to fully interact with the environment. By primarily using the experience’s narrative and environment to illicit a fear response in guests, as opposed to using the consequences of their …
