Establishing A Debug Channel Using Conductive Components Of An Electronic Device To Create Switchable Communication Paths, Averill Chang, Zoro Chang

Defensive Publications Series

This disclosure describes a technique for establishing a debug channel over a wired connection by repurposing hardware components of an electronic device to create switchable communication paths for data transfer. In particular, internal debug signals can be selectively routed to non-dedicated external hardware contacts, for example, by using switching mechanisms. This approach may provide a stable and reliable debugging channel, potentially reducing the need for dedicated, corrosion-prone debug pins and mitigating certain performance and cost considerations associated with some wireless communication techniques.

Drawing from peer-reviewed literature, the work explores narratives and collective memories that influence perceptions of care, including the role of faith-based coping, stigma, and alternative healing practices. Special attention is given to the compounded effects of intersectional identities …

A Complex Border: Intractability And The Physical Roots Of Discursive Legitimations In Cyprus, Hilmi Ulas Aug 2025

A Complex Border: Intractability And The Physical Roots Of Discursive Legitimations In Cyprus, Hilmi Ulas

Peace Studies Faculty Articles and Research

The Cypriot conflict is one of the most intractable conflicts of the modern era, and the collapse of complexity among the actors in the conflict—mainly the Republic of Cyprus, North Cyprus, and Turkey—appears to be the main cause of the continued “no war, no peace” state. Subsequent socio-psychological self-organization among these actors then produces conflict-perpetuating feedback loops and dynamics. These dynamics include identity narratives, narratives of “the other,” and narratives of the nature of the conflict, which, at the grassroots level, can legitimize ongoing engagement in the conflict, whereas peace is painted as an undesirable and undeserved/unjust compromise. Given this, …

Expanding Occupational Therapists’ Role In Youth Adaptive Sports: A Comprehensive Guidebook, Alexandria K. Lannoo, Lesley Khan-Farooqi Aug 2025

Expanding Occupational Therapists’ Role In Youth Adaptive Sports: A Comprehensive Guidebook, Alexandria K. Lannoo, Lesley Khan-Farooqi

Summer 2025 OTD Capstone Symposium

Children with disabilities are less likely to participate in adaptive sports or physical activity than typically developing children, despite the proven benefits adaptive sports provide for physical, social, and emotional well-being. Adaptive sports can be modified to accommodate a variety of ability levels and can improve quality of life (QoL) of children with disabilities through enhanced mobility, social participation, and self efficacy. However many occupational therapists (OTs) underutilize adaptive sports within their practice and are unaware of their role in promoting participation and of resources within their community. Guided by the Synthesis of Child, Occupational Performance, and Environment in Time …

Ineffective Parenting, Alexis Rian Aug 2025

Ineffective Parenting, Alexis Rian

Master of Arts in Human Services

Ineffective parenting can lead to long-term, severe, and lasting consequences for children. Children depend heavily on their primary caregivers for safety and to have their basic needs met. However, not all parents demonstrate positive parenting styles, whether due to a lack of knowledge, limited capacity, or simply a lack of interest. Parenting styles fall into four categories: authoritarian, authoritative, permissive, and uninvolved. The type of parenting style a caregiver adopts can significantly influence the attachment style a child has with them. Four attachment styles that children have are insecure avoidant attachment, secure attachment, insecure resistant attachment, and disorganized attachment. Children …

Not In My Neighborhood! The Harsh Realities Of Sex Offender Registration Laws, Kyle B. Rossow

Master of Arts in Human Services

Sex offender registration laws were created in response to public fear and high-profile tragedies, with the primary goal of enhancing public safety through stringent monitoring of sexual offenders. This paper explores the historical development of these laws, including high-profile cases that later influenced legislative acts, such as the tragic incidents of Jacob Wetterling, Megan Kanka, and Adam Walsh. This paper also explores how media portrayals and public opinion factor into these legislative decisions. While the laws aim to protect the public, they often result in collateral consequences for individuals who have to register. Sex offenders are often held back by …

Scene Generation Method For Maritime Target Recognition Based On Detection Parameters, Yuxuan Run, Dezhen Yang, Yeyang Liu, Wei Deng, Xiangyu Xing, Yi Ren

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: Traditional scene generation methods for maritime target recognition consider only the effects of different environments on the generated scene data, while overlooking the changes in scene information caused by sensor detection parameters, resulting in a lack of accuracy and authenticity in generated scenes. To address this issue, a detection parameter-based scene generation method for maritime target recognition was proposed. For the task of maritime target recognition, key detection parameters affecting scene generation quality and essential scene features were analyzed. An association relationship modeling method based on Bayesian networks was proposed to construct a mapping relationship model between scene features …

Ship Fire Prediction Method Based On Evidence Theory With Fuzzy Reward, Chunyu Yang, Chuang Zhang, Xiaofan Zhang

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: A multi-source information fusion approach based on the dempster-shafer (D-S) evidence theory with a fuzzy reward-penalty mechanism was proposed to address the issues of underreporting and false reporting in the early prediction of ship fires. PyroSim was utilized to construct a ship's laboratory model for fire simulation. Variations in carbon monoxide, temperature, and smoke concentration were recorded for data acquisition, followed by the application of a sigmf function for membership assignment. By leveraging the classical D-S theory, a reward-penalty mechanism was applied in weighted evidence fusion. Reward-penalty factors were utilized to differentiate various basic probability assignments, with unified belief …

Current Mechanobiological Pathways And Therapies Driving Spinal Health, Rahul Kumar, Kyle Sporn, Harlene Kaur, Akshay Khanna, Phani Paladugu, Nasif Zaman, Alireza Tavakkoli Aug 2025

Current Mechanobiological Pathways And Therapies Driving Spinal Health, Rahul Kumar, Kyle Sporn, Harlene Kaur, Akshay Khanna, Phani Paladugu, Nasif Zaman, Alireza Tavakkoli

SKMC Student Presentations and Publications

Spinal health depends on the dynamic interplay between mechanical forces, biochemical signaling, and cellular behavior. This review explores how key molecular pathways, including integrin, yeas-associated protein (YAP) and transcriptional coactivator with PDZ-binding motif (TAZ), Piezo, and Wingless/Integrated (Wnt) with β-catenin, actively shape the structural and functional integrity of spinal tissues. These signaling mechanisms respond to physical cues and interact with inflammatory mediators such as interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), driving changes that lead to disc degeneration, vertebral fractures, spinal cord injury, and ligament failure. New research is emerging that shows scaffold designs that can …

Dynamic Remodeling Of Centrioles And The Microtubule Cytoskeleton In The Lifecycle Of Chytrid Fungi, Alexandra F Long, Krishnakumar Vasudevan, Andrew Swafford, Claire M Venard, Jason E Stajich, Lillian K Fritz-Laylin, Jessica L Feldman, Tim Stearns

Biology Faculty Publications

Cell movement and division are complex behaviors driven by a dynamic internal cytoskeleton. The molecular components and principles of cytoskeletal assembly are well studied, but less is known about cytoskeletal remodeling events, including how centrioles transition from ciliary base to centrosome. Here we address this using the chytrid Rhizoclosmatium globosum, a zoosporic fungus which has centrioles and cilia, lost in most fungal lineages. Chytrids undergo reorganization of their microtubule cytoskeleton as they grow from zoospore to multinucleated coenocyte. We use evolutionary comparison, RNA sequencing, and expansion microscopy to understand this reorganization and further develop this organism as a model for …

Project-Based Learning With Odes: Modeling Straw Rocket Motion With Air Resistance, Viktoria Savatorova, Ethan Dyer, Aleksei Talonov

CODEE Journal

This paper presents a hands-on project that guides students through building and validating a mathematical model of projectile motion. The project starts with the idealized case of motion under gravity without air resistance and then introduces air drag : first as a linear force, and then as a nonlinear quadratic force, with the Reynolds number providing the justification for the quadratic model. Students perform experiments with vertical and angled launches, capturing and analyzing motion data using video analysis software. Vertical launch data allows parameter estimation via least squares fitting of the nonlinear drag model, yielding values for initial velocity and …

Degeneracies Of Triangulated Graphs, Allan Bickle Aug 2025

Degeneracies Of Triangulated Graphs, Allan Bickle

Theory & Applications of Graphs

A graph $G$ is $k$-degenerate if each subgraph has minimum degree

at most $k$. The degeneracy\textbf{ }$D\left(G\right)$ is the smallest

$k$ such that $G$ is $k$-degenerate. We determine the truth values

of four statements (using different quantifiers) about when a planar

graph $G$ with degeneracy $k$ has a triangulation with degeneracy

$l$. We characterize which 3-connected planar graphs can only be

triangulated to degeneracy 3. Then we consider analogous questions

for maximal planar bipartite graphs. We prove some structural results

on these graphs, including results on decomposition of planar graphs

into various types of bipartite graphs.

Small Scale Analysis Of Urban Air Quality And Public Health In London, Uk, Provides Insights For Targeted Interventions, Alan Smith, Tim Daley Aug 2025

Small Scale Analysis Of Urban Air Quality And Public Health In London, Uk, Provides Insights For Targeted Interventions, Alan Smith, Tim Daley

School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences

Understanding the impact of scale and zonation is critical for accurately assessing population health in relation to air quality and demographic data. Using existing census geographies, we analyse spatial clustering and statistical associations across different census scales, focussing on vulnerable sociodemographic groups and temporal exposure patterns. This study aims to assess how different spatial resolutions affect the strength and interpretation of associations between air pollution, sociodemographic variables, and self-reported health. It also evaluates whether finer-scale, health-need-based zoning provides a more accurate basis for public health analysis. Exposure to higher PM2.5 concentrations, and having an undrlying disability, or long-term illness shows …

High Abundances Of Crustose Coralline Algae Inside Cryptic Coral Habitats Linked To Coral Reef Functioning, Anna Rothstein, Orion S. Mccarthy, Sophie Luu, Emily L.A. Kelly, Philip Heller, Stuart Sandin, Jennifer E. Smith, Maya S. Devries

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

Cryptic habitats on coral reefs consist of crevices, tunnels, and holes that are estimated to comprise 30%–75% of the total reef surface area. These large habitats are vastly understudied because they are often difficult to access. Crustose coralline algae (CCA) are thought to perform important ecological functions, including calcium accretion, both inside cryptic habitats and on the exposed (top) reef. Using GoPro cameras, we surveyed 250 coral crevices from 13 reefs on West Maui, Hawai‘i. We compared relative CCA cover between crevice microhabitats and the well-studied top-reef and identified abiotic and biotic factors that correlated with CCA abundance. We found …

Improving High Frequency Absorptive Filters For Quantum Computing, Christopher B. Sutton Aug 2025

Improving High Frequency Absorptive Filters For Quantum Computing, Christopher B. Sutton

Graduate Masters Theses

Coaxial transmission lines in superconducting quantum circuits are subject to infrared radiation (IR) leakage as signals travel from room temperature (≈ 300 K) to low temperature (≈ 10 mK). Current experimental configurations typically include an epoxy based filter on all cables connecting classical devices (pulse generators, VNA, etc.) to the quantum circuit. The epoxy is characterized by its dielectric properties per unit length and acts as an absorber, attenuating IR noise. Historically, such IR filters have been fabricated by the experimentalists who require them, more recently they have become commercially available. This work investigates the performance of filters which were …

Tmco1 As An Endoplasmic Reticulum Calcium Load-Activated Channel: Mechanisms And Disease Implications, Jingbo Wang, Panpan Zhu, Zhuohang Li, Xiaohui Su, Mingzhu Qi, Aimin Zhou, Xiangying Kong

Chemistry Faculty Publications

Calcium ions (Ca2+) play a vital role in many biological processes. Transmembrane and coiled-coil domain 1 (TMCO1) has been characterized as an endoplasmic reticulum (ER) transmembrane protein in recent years. It keeps the cytoplasm and ER's Ca2+ homeostasis stable by acting as a novel calcium channel. Studies from different laboratories have revealed that the mutation or deficiency of TMCO1 is closely correlated with several diseases, including cerebro-facio-thoracic dysplasia (CFTD), glaucoma, premature ovarian failure (POF), osteoporosis, and cancer. Here, we review the characteristics of TMCO1 and its involvement in related diseases, which may provide useful information for developing therapeutic strategies for …
