Control Design For High-Side Blocking Of E3 High-Altitude Electromagnetic Insults, Connor A. Lehman, Rush Robinett, Wayne Weaver

Michigan Tech Publications

This paper presents a novel approach for protecting transformers during an (Formula presented.) HEMP insult as well as the associated technology-agnostic voltage, power, energy storage, and bandwidth requirements of various control laws. The mitigation is performed by placing a controlled voltage supply in series with the primary winding of a transformer. The controlled voltage supply is subjected to four control laws: an integral controller (capacitor), a linear quadratic regulator (LQR), a nonlinear energy storage optimal feedforward control law, and a Hamiltonian feedback control law. The research gap addressed is that most (Formula presented.) mitigation discussions emphasize neutral-side blocking, whereas transmission-level …

Congenital complete atrioventricular block (CCAVB) is a well-recognized manifestation of neonatal lupus erythematosus (NLE), caused by transplacental transfer of maternal anti-Ro/Sjögren's Syndrome Type A (SSA) and anti-La/Sjögren's Syndrome Type B (SSB) antibodies. Although non-cardiac manifestations of NLE typically resolve within the first year of life, the long-term autoimmune risk in affected offspring remains unclear. We report a 24-year-old woman with CCAVB secondary to maternal Sjögren's disease who presented with acute heart failure, nephrotic-range proteinuria, bicytopenia, pericardial effusion, and findings concerning for Libman-Sacks endocarditis. Despite negative conventional lupus serologies, renal biopsy demonstrated Class IV/V lupus-like immune-complex glomerulonephritis with full-house immune complex …

Host-Pathogen Dynamics Underpinning Staphylococcus Aureus Growth During Intracellular Osteoclast Infection, Luke D. O'Connor

WUSM Theses and Dissertations – All Programs

Bone infection is most commonly caused by the gram-positive bacterium Staphylococcus aureus. It has myriad ways in which it can circumvent or subvert killing by the host or antibiotics. Intracellular infection is one such niche that is protective from immune and antibiotic attack. In 2019, Krauss and colleagues discovered that infected osteoclasts (OCs) allow S. aureus to replicate intracellularly. There they found that the ability of S. aureus to grow inside the cell was tied to OC differentiation. The magnitude of overnight bacterial expansion positively correlated with OC maturity and duration cultured with the osteoclastogenic factor RANK ligand (RANKL). Bacterial …

The Moderating Effect Of Facial Recognition Ability On The Post-Identification Feedback Effect, Benjamin Martell Aug 2026

The Moderating Effect Of Facial Recognition Ability On The Post-Identification Feedback Effect, Benjamin Martell

Student Theses

Abstract

Researchers have long understood the contaminating impact that feedback given to an eyewitness regarding their lineup identification has on a host of testimony-relevant retrospective judgments (Steblay et al., 2014; Wells & Bradfield, 1998). This phenomenon-the Post Identification Feedback Effect- has been influential in informing policy that seeks to reduce the number of false identifications and subsequent miscarriages of justice (Dysart et al., 2012). The present study aims to further our understanding and application of the post-identification feedback effect by investigating how a factor specific to the eyewitness, facial recognition ability, may moderate this effect. The present study failed to …
