Techniques For Providing Asynchronous Reliable Transmission Protocol For Application-To-Application Communication, Ashish Kumar Khatri Mr., Preet Nepolean Dabre Mr. Oct 2025

Techniques For Providing Asynchronous Reliable Transmission Protocol For Application-To-Application Communication, Ashish Kumar Khatri Mr., Preet Nepolean Dabre Mr.

Defensive Publications Series

Techniques are disclosed for providing asynchronous reliable transmission (ART) protocol for Application-to-Application messages. A communication protocol is designed to support communication between two devices asynchronously over channels that have limitations to facilitate asynchronous communication and have limited bandwidth. The ART protocol solves communication challenges that arise when transmitting data over channels with such limitations. The ART protocol has the provision to expand for future use cases such as encryption. Further, the ART Protocol provides mechanisms for data packet fragmentation, allowing larger packets to be transmitted over channels with limited bandwidth.

Non-Invasive Way For Detection Of Neonatal Jaundice Using Gbr, Priti V. Bhagat, Mukesh Raghuwanshi, Ashutosh D. Bagde

Chulalongkorn Medical Journal

Background: Neonatal jaundice is a common condition in newborns due to excess levels of bilirubin. The traditional method for bilirubin testing is invasive, i.e., through blood tests only, which is painful to infants. Therefore, this study uses machine learning algorithms to develop a non-invasive way to detect neonatal jaundice.

Objectives: Design a computer-aided support system to detect neonatal jaundice using machine learning algorithm.

Methods: The gradient-boosting regression model is used to predict the bilirubin level. Gradient Boosting is a robust boosting algorithm that combines several weak learners into strong learners, in which each new model is trained to minimize the …

The Comparison Of Radiation Attenuation Correction Techniques For Relative Renal Function In Renal Cortical Scintigraphy, Benchamat Phromphao, Sorasak Wanitchanan, Trai Chairat, Thunyaluk Sawatnatee, Tanawat Sontrapornpol

Chulalongkorn Medical Journal

Background: Renal cortical scintigraphy using Tc-99m Dimercaptosuccinic acid (Tc-99m DMSA) is the detection of cortical abnormalities. In addition, relative renal function (RRF) is performed by DMSA scintigraphy and estimated from the radiopharmaceutical uptake in both kidneys with radiation attenuation correction. Generally, attenuation correction is calculated from mathematic methods with kidney depth correction for an accurate renal function value.

Objective: The purpose of this research was to study the correlation of the RRF with radiation attenuation correction by geometric mean (GM) method and kidney depth correction by Beer-Lambert law equation.

Methods: Researchers studied in the spherical phantom, kidney phantom and patient’s …

Social Media, Social Sensibilities, And The Employment Relationship, Matthew W. Finkin Oct 2025

Social Media, Social Sensibilities, And The Employment Relationship, Matthew W. Finkin

The Journal of Contemporary Legal Issues

Employers have long made decisions based on the applicant’s or incumbent employee’s respectability. Those whose transgress the bounds could be excluded; e.g., those who publicly embrace the Ku Klux Klan.[] In other words, frank speech—speech “unconstrained by anything that might normally encourage one to be more circumspect,”[] speech revealing one’s “true feelings, however repellant to popular morality”[]—is not invariably a good thing.[]

When social media came into wide use, employers extended their monitoring of applicants and incumbents for the acceptability of that speech.[] There is nothing new in that.[] In the absence of a clear direction embodied in law …

Hear Me Out: What Is Our Obligation To Listen?, Thomas Healy Oct 2025

Hear Me Out: What Is Our Obligation To Listen?, Thomas Healy

The Journal of Contemporary Legal Issues

Most scholarly discussions about “cancel culture” focus on the extent to which imposing economic or social sanctions on speakers violates the principle of free speech. In this essay, I consider a related question, which is whether deliberately avoiding, ignoring, or blocking speakers one disagrees with is antithetical to free speech. Although it might seem strange to suggest that a principle concerned with the right to speak entails an obligation to listen, I argue that genuine “good faith” listening is necessary to further the goals free speech is designed to serve. However, I also argue that this obligation is imperfect, or …

Comment On Hurd And Moore, Richard Arneson

The Journal of Contemporary Legal Issues

In their essay on “Wrongful Student Speech and Rightful Private University Responses to It,” Professors Heidi Hurd and Michael Moore (hereafter, Hurd & Moore) deepen the discussion by situating it in a general account of moral limits on freedom of expression and by noting connections to some of their own views on moral theory. The result is an excellent primer on freedom of speech, and more than just a primer. Their general views are shown to have plausible implications for tangled questions about what private university administrators ought to do in response to problematic examples of campus protest. That this …

From Mill To Mussolini And On To Microsoft: Freedom Of Speech In A Neo-Corporatist Era, Maimon Schwarzschild Oct 2025

From Mill To Mussolini And On To Microsoft: Freedom Of Speech In A Neo-Corporatist Era, Maimon Schwarzschild

The Journal of Contemporary Legal Issues

John Stuart Mill’s On Liberty—a fundamental text for political liberalism—not only defended the importance of freedom of expression and debate, but suggested that social pressure from private persons and institutions can be as much, or more, of a threat to freedom, including freedom of expression, as any legal sanction or act of government. Mill feared “a social tyranny more formidable than many kinds of political oppression” which “leaves fewer means of escape, penetrating much more deeply into the details of life, and enslaving the soul to itself”.

Recent decades in America have seen efforts to suppress free expression by colleges …

Research Datasets

ECU-MALNETT (ECU MALware NETwork Traffic) is a real world, reproducible dataset of labeled benign and malicious network flows built from the Peekaboo execution corpus. Peekaboo runs evasive malware with dynamic binary instrumentation and records raw host-level PCAPs while granting full Internet access, yielding noisy, real-world captures with background OS activity and concurrent processes. To derive trustworthy labels from these traces, we apply Construct, a baseline aware, zero-trust labeling framework. Construct first ingests a baseline capture to establish reference sets (DNS qnames, HTTP hosts, TLS SNIs, and socket endpoints) and grows a conservative benign IP pool only via whitelisted DNS resolutions. …

How Free Should Campus Speech Be?, Heidi M. Hurd, Michael S. Moore Oct 2025

How Free Should Campus Speech Be?, Heidi M. Hurd, Michael S. Moore

The Journal of Contemporary Legal Issues

The general topic to which this piece is devoted concerns how non-governmental entities and individuals may and should respond to the speech of other non-governmental entities and individuals. The emphasis on private, non-governmental actions removes the discussion from the ambit of the First Amendment’s constitutional right of free speech and, indeed, removes the discussion from issues of legality, more generally. Although such normative discussions can result in recommended legal actions, in the first instance at least such discussions are about the morality—as opposed to the legality—of the negative responses by private persons to the speech of others.

The particular focus …

Should Private Universities Tie Themselves To The First Amendment?, Keith E. Whittington Oct 2025

Should Private Universities Tie Themselves To The First Amendment?, Keith E. Whittington

The Journal of Contemporary Legal Issues

Private colleges and universities are generally free to depart from First Amendment standards regarding their own regulation of speech on campus and among campus community members. They may adopt more restrictive speech regimes that would sharply separate them from their public university counterparts which are bound by First Amendment requirements. In the modern era, private universities have nonetheless generally chosen to voluntarily embrace something like First Amendment principles to guide their own internal governance. Some would prefer that they shed those commitments and adopt some alternative speech regime. In this Article, I argue that private universities generally should adopt free …

An Ode-Based Analytical Approach To Rayleigh Flow Of Kelvin–Voigt Fluid, Kamille Garcia, Mahanthesh Basavarajappa

CODEE Journal

We present some results from a project carried out in the Under- graduate Research in Mathematics (MATH 4380) course at TAMIU. The main goal of this study is to demonstrate that analytical solutions for a system of partial differential equations (PDEs) can be obtained using methods typically taught in an undergraduate ordinary differential equations (ODE) course, such as power series, undetermined coefficients, and Laplace transforms. In this study, we provide semi-analytical solutions for Rayleigh flow type problem utilizing the Kelvin-Voigt fluid model, which describes the behavior of vis- coelastic materials by incorporating both elastic and viscous properties. Heat transfer analysis …

A novel method of measuring endocochlear potential and cochlear function in a patient is presented. The method uses nuclear imaging, such as PET or SPECT, with a radiotracer such as 201Tl to visualize any potassium ion loss in the cochlea of the patient which can contribute to auditory disorders such as hearing loss. This non-invasive technique represents a new method for auditory diagnoses by measurement of cochlear properties which can aid in the development of new therapeutics for auditory disorders.

Fiber Recruitment Drives A Phase Transition Of Cell Polarization At A Critical Cell Spacing In Matrix-Mediated Tissue Remodeling, Xiangjun Peng, Yuxuan Huang, Wenyu Kong, Yanan Du, Elliot L Elson, Xi-Qiao Feng, Guy M Genin Oct 2025

Fiber Recruitment Drives A Phase Transition Of Cell Polarization At A Critical Cell Spacing In Matrix-Mediated Tissue Remodeling, Xiangjun Peng, Yuxuan Huang, Wenyu Kong, Yanan Du, Elliot L Elson, Xi-Qiao Feng, Guy M Genin

2020-Current year OA Pubs

Biological tissues exhibit sharp phase transitions where cells collectively transition from disordered to ordered states at critical densities. We demonstrate through bio-chemo-mechanical modeling that this emergent behavior arises from a nonmonotonic dependence on nonlinear extracellular matrix (ECM) mechanics: mechanical communication between cells is optimized at intermediate stiffness values where cells can both generate sufficient forces and create strain-stiffened tension bands in the ECM. This balance establishes a critical cell spacing threshold for cell-cell communication ([Formula: see text]100 to 200 [Formula: see text]m) that is conserved across experimental observations for a broad range of cell types and collagen densities. Our model …

Calving As A Source Of Acute And Persistent Kinetic Energy To Enhance Submarine Melting Of Tidewater Glaciers, M. F. Shaya, J. D. Nash, E. C. Pettit, Jason M. Amundson, R. H. Jackson, D. A. Sutherland, D. Winters Oct 2025

Calving As A Source Of Acute And Persistent Kinetic Energy To Enhance Submarine Melting Of Tidewater Glaciers, M. F. Shaya, J. D. Nash, E. C. Pettit, Jason M. Amundson, R. H. Jackson, D. A. Sutherland, D. Winters

Faculty, Staff, and Students

Calving icebergs at tidewater glaciers release large amounts of potential energy. This energy—in principle—could be a source for submarine melting, which scales with near‐terminus water temperature and velocity. Because near‐terminus currents are challenging to observe or predict, submarine melt remains a key uncertainty in projecting tidewater glacier retreat and sea level rise. Here, we study one submarine calving event at Xeitl Sít’ (LeConte Glacier), Alaska, to explore the effect of calving on ice melt, using a suite of autonomously deployed instruments beneath, around, and downstream of the calving iceberg. Our measurements captured flows exceeding 5 m/s and demonstrate how potential …
