Optimizing Healthy Aging: A Preventative Approach To Support Community-Dwelling Older Adults, Jada Welke

Occupational Therapy Capstones

Introduction: Healthy aging is a complex and multidimensional process influenced by physical, cognitive, psychosocial, environmental, and lifestyle factors across the lifespan. Increasing evidence from researchers suggests that many health care systems continue to rely on reactive models that address decline only after functional limitations emerge. Preventive interventions initiated in midlife have the potential to significantly influence long-term health outcomes, independence, well-being, and quality of life. As a result, there is growing recognition that multidimensional, proactive screening and intervention should begin earlier, before age-related conditions become clinically significant.

Purpose: The purpose of this scholarly project was to address this need through …

Mining industry is rapidly transforming into an AI-driven cyber-physical ecosystem where safety and operational reliability depend on robust perception, resilient communication, trustworthy distributed intelligence and continuous monitoring of miners and equipment. Real-world mining environments impose severe constraints like poor illumination, dust, occlusion, GPS-denied conditions, irregular underground topologies, and intermittent connectivity. These factors degrade perception quality, disrupt situational awareness, impair trajectory prediction and weaken the reliability of distributed learning systems. Emerging cyber-physical threats, including backdoor triggers, sensor spoofing, label-flip attacks and poisoned model updates, further jeopardize operational safety, particularly as mines increasingly adopt autonomous vehicles, humanoid assistance, and federated learning for …

Dynamic Hub-Aware Knowledge Distillation For Efficient Traffic Flow Forecasting, Xiangjie Kong, Can Shu, Wenchao Weng, Zhenzhen Zhao, Guojiang Shen, Lei Wang, Sajal K. Das Jan 2026

Dynamic Hub-Aware Knowledge Distillation For Efficient Traffic Flow Forecasting, Xiangjie Kong, Can Shu, Wenchao Weng, Zhenzhen Zhao, Guojiang Shen, Lei Wang, Sajal K. Das

Computer Science Faculty Research & Creative Works

Real-time traffic forecasting acts as a critical enabling service for IoT-driven Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). While existing Spatiotemporal Graph Neural Networks (STGNNs) achieve superior forecasting accuracy, their intensive computational complexity and high latency create a deployment bottleneck for resource-constrained IoT edge devices. To address this resource-accuracy mismatch, we propose a novel framework termed Dynamic Hub-Aware Knowledge Distillation (DHKD). Unlike traditional uniform distillation paradigms, DHKD introduces a topology-aware strategy to transfer knowledge from a complex teacher to a lightweight Spatiotemporal Multi-Layer Perceptron (STMLP) student model. Specifically, we design a dynamic hub-aware gating (DHAG) mechanism that adaptively identifies time-varying pivotal sensing nodes …

Feddot: Defending Federated Learning Against Overwhelming Targeted Attacks, Priyesh Ranjan, Ashish Gupta, Federico Coro, Sajal K. Das

Computer Science Faculty Research & Creative Works

Federated Learning (FL), which facilitates collaborative model training and protects users' privacy, has drawn great interest from the research community. With FL, participants train their models on local data and submit the corresponding updates for aggregation to a server. While concealing the identities of the participants, FL may attract adversaries in order to hamper the underlying model. In this paper, we propose an FL framework, FedDOT, to defend against adversaries performing targeted attacks. FedDOT incorporates two powerful defense algorithms, Maximum Spanning Tree based attacker detection (MSTAD) and Densest graph-based attacker detection (Density-AD), which leverage correlation between weight updates and graph …

Utility-Preserving Federated Graph Learning With Dual-Perspective Fairness, Renqiang Luo, Huafei Huang, Shuo Yu, Fengqi Yu, Feng Xia, Sajal K. Das, Chengqi Zhang Jan 2026

Utility-Preserving Federated Graph Learning With Dual-Perspective Fairness, Renqiang Luo, Huafei Huang, Shuo Yu, Fengqi Yu, Feng Xia, Sajal K. Das, Chengqi Zhang

Computer Science Faculty Research & Creative Works

Fairness-aware federated graph neural networks (FedGNNs) necessitate consideration of both the server and the clients. However, fairness-aware methods struggle to enhance dual-perspective (i.e., server and clients) fairness without sacrificing utility due to the distributed learning framework. As a consequence, the utility sacrifices of fairness-aware graph learning methods are even exacerbated in federated frameworks. In this work we propose F3GL, a dual-perspective fairness federated graph learning method that enhances both global (for the server) and local fairness (for clients) while preserving utility. Through theoretical analysis, we delineate the similarity between original sensitive features and those after convolution under different spectra. Our …

Escher: Efficient And Scalable Hypergraph Evolution Representation With Application To Triad Counting, S. M. Shovan, Arindam Khanda, Sanjukta Bhowmick, Sajal K. Das Jan 2026

Escher: Efficient And Scalable Hypergraph Evolution Representation With Application To Triad Counting, S. M. Shovan, Arindam Khanda, Sanjukta Bhowmick, Sajal K. Das

Computer Science Faculty Research & Creative Works

Higher-order interactions beyond pairwise relationships in large complex networks are often modeled as hypergraphs. Analyzing hypergraph properties such as triad counts is essential, as hypergraphs can reveal intricate group interaction patterns that conventional graphs fail to capture. In realworld scenarios, these networks are often large and dynamic, introducing significant computational challenges. Due to the absence of specialized software packages and data structures, the analysis of large dynamic hypergraphs remains largely unexplored. Motivated by this gap, we propose ESCHER, a GPU-centric parallel data structure for Efficient and Scalable Hypergraph Evolution Representation, designed to manage largescale hypergraph dynamics efficiently. We also design …

(2026) Desegregating The Community Of Inquiry In Philosophy For / With Children: A Dialogue On Racism, Maughn Rollins Gregory, Darren Chetty

Collected Papers of Maughn Rollins Gregory

This dialogical article examines persistent challenges in engaging racism, colonialism, and white supremacy within the theory and practice of Philosophy for/with Children (P4/wC). Framed as a mutual interview between two long-standing colleagues, the dialogue revisits formative encounters in the P4/wC community and situates them within broader intellectual traditions, including American pragmatism, deliberative democracy, and Africana philosophy. Drawing on personal experience, archival material, and critical scholarship, the authors interrogate the metaphilosophical assumptions underpinning the “community of inquiry,” particularly its commitments to reasonableness, consensus, and democratic dialogue. Concepts such as the “gated community of inquiry,” white ignorance, nonideal theory, and insurrectionist ethics …

(2026) Three Traditions Of Philosophical Dialogue, Maughn Rollins Gregory Jan 2026

(2026) Three Traditions Of Philosophical Dialogue, Maughn Rollins Gregory

Collected Papers of Maughn Rollins Gregory

This chapter distinguishes and interrelates three major traditions of philosophical dialogue: inquiry, political, and contemplative. Inquiry dialogue, exemplified by the “community of philosophical inquiry,” emphasizes collaborative reasoning aimed at forming the most reasonable judgments about contested concepts. Political dialogue, exemplified by the story circle, shifts the focus toward democratic transformation, highlighting how discourse is shaped by power, ideology, and the need for emancipatory critique and action. Contemplative dialogue, exemplified by lectio divina, foregrounds self-awareness, ethical disposition, and attentive presence as conditions for meaningful exchange. Across these traditions, dialogue is presented as a normative practice that simultaneously cultivates the self and …

To Kill And Let Suffer: The Incompatibility Of The Death Penalty And Medical Aid In Dying, And The Necessity For A Fundamental Right To Life, Nicholas Stackhouse Jan 2026

To Kill And Let Suffer: The Incompatibility Of The Death Penalty And Medical Aid In Dying, And The Necessity For A Fundamental Right To Life, Nicholas Stackhouse

Dickinson Law Review (2017-Present)

Currently, the Supreme Court holds that the death penalty is constitutional and that a person has no right to Medical Aid in Dying, resulting in a legal environment in which a person can unwillingly be put to death while simultaneously having no ability to end their own life if terminally ill and in pain. The conclusion drawn from the Supreme Court’s decisions means that death row inmates who wish to end their lives have a greater right to die than law-abiding citizens. This state of affairs is untenable and contradictory to the founding principles of the United States. This Comment …

From Privacy To Profit: The Evolution Of Name, Image, And Likeness Rights And The Revolution In College Athletics Toward Collegiate Capitalism, Donald M. Remy Jan 2026

From Privacy To Profit: The Evolution Of Name, Image, And Likeness Rights And The Revolution In College Athletics Toward Collegiate Capitalism, Donald M. Remy

Dickinson Law Review (2017-Present)

The story of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) rights in American law is one of adaptation, transformation, and ultimately, revolution. What began as a modest recognition of personal dignity in the late 19th century has evolved into a multibillion-dollar framework that has fundamentally altered the landscape of college athletics. The journey from Samuel Warren and Louis Brandeis’s seminal articulation of the “right to be let alone” to the June 2025 approval of the House v. NCAA1 settlement represents not merely a doctrinal evolution but a profound shift in how American society conceptualizes the relationship between identity, commerce, and fair …

Name, Image, Likeness And The Great American Pastime, Barbara Lauriat Jan 2026

Name, Image, Likeness And The Great American Pastime, Barbara Lauriat

Dickinson Law Review (2017-Present)

The ability of high-profile athletes to commercialize name, image, and likeness (NIL) rights is at the center of many current controversies about the future of college sports in the United States. This Article describes how what we call NIL protection— largely based on publicity rights doctrines developed in the mid-20th century—is historically recent, conceptually unstable, and insufficiently scrutinized, even though it now underwrites major entertainment markets in sports. Just as baseball is a sport particularly identified with the United States, there is also a peculiarly American approach to the protection of persona. Using baseball as the central case study, the …

Losing Your Driver’S License; Just What The Doctor Ordered?, Shawna Traver Jan 2026

Losing Your Driver’S License; Just What The Doctor Ordered?, Shawna Traver

Dickinson Law Review (2017-Present)

Having a medical scare or living with a chronic medical condition is a common experience for many people in the United States. But should you go to a doctor in Pennsylvania and tell them of your condition or experience, a little-known law may force the doctor to report you to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation— without your knowledge. Once the report is received, the Department can recall your license. You can attempt to restore your license by attending a hearing, though you are fighting an uphill battle. Essentially, Pennsylvania drivers may be blindsided by a license recall merely because they …
