Context-Aware Semantic Method And System For Network-Connected Camera Notification Filtering, Josh Och, Andrew Axley
Defensive Publications Series
A system and method are provided for enhancing the operational intelligence of network-connected cameras through the establishment of camera-specific semantic context. A digital repository is associated with an individual monitoring device to store context metadata representing physical and logical relationships in the device's field of view. The context metadata can be defined via user input or automatically inferred using analytical models that identify historical activity patterns or process environmental feedback. When a monitoring event occurs, the associated context metadata is retrieved and integrated into an evaluation framework, such as an augmented prompt for a generative artificial intelligence model, to analyze …

Immigration has become a reality in most parts of the world for different reasons. Iranian immigrants ranked sixth in acquiring Canadian citizenship and eighth in being admitted as permanent residents (Bains, 2024; Risdon, 2024). Most immigrants experience some degree of loss and disassociation after being dislocated. Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) impacts people of all genders, ages and socioeconomic, racial, educational, ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds; however, women experience this form of gender-based violence at much higher rates, most often perpetrated by men (Statistics Canada, 2023 & 2025). IPV presents a significant public health challenge affecting diverse demographic groups, including immigrant women …

Implementation Of A Learning Module To Reduce Advanced Practice Provider Preceptor Burden, Michelle Bloom
Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Student Projects
The transition of advanced practice providers (APPs) from student to provider, or from an experienced provider to a new organization or location, has been identified as a high-stress period with potential turnover for new-hire APPs. APP preceptors play a key role in this transition. Limited time to teach during the clinical day and a limited knowledge base among new hires were two of many factors associated with increased preceptor burden. A brief online educational module that provided pre-clinical, organization-specific education was proposed to improve new-hire APPs’ knowledge base and reduce preceptor burden, among APP preceptors working in a 36-bed surgical/burn/trauma …

In an era of political, ecological and epistemic uncertainty, design his tory is frequently employed to lend legitimacy to optimistic narratives of progress, or to provide readymade references for contemporary practice and education. However, this text argues that such approach es reduce historical knowledge to a linear and instrumental resource, thereby obscuring its role within longer and more complex cycles of per ception and production. Here, the historical process is examined as an iterative cycle that en compasses both material production and perception. Building on the work of David Walker and Nigel Cross, the analysis considers how ma terial production …

The production of conventional concrete has a significant impact on the environment, primarily due to the cement (C) component. To mitigate this impact, binders with reduced environmental footprints were used in concrete mixtures as a partial replacement for C, including powders of industrial byproducts. Waste marble powder (WMP) is one such alternative; however, its incorporation causes complicated interactions with cementitious materials, making the compressive strength (CS) prediction difficult. This study developed and evaluated four predictive models (multilinear regression (MLR), full quadratic regression (FQ), M5P tree, and artificial neural network (ANN)) using a dataset of 306 WMP-blended concrete mixes from 16 …

We establish the theoretical framework and investigate the fundamental limits for an integrated optical chip design containing a rotation sensing ring resonator coupled to an inverse weak value amplified Sagnac interferometer that amplifies the signal with phase information. We achieve, for conservative parameter choices, a minimum detectable angular rotation rate of ∼0.1 °/hr and an Allan deviation of∼0.08 °/hr assuming shot noise limited performance. For matched detected optical power, our design can improve the signal-to-noise ratio, reduce the minimum detectable angular rotation rate, and Allan deviation by more than ten times compared to an ideal standard Sagnac interferometer with balanced …

Physics-informed neural networks solve the Helmholtz equation without labeled data, but a low residual alone does not confirm that a solution preserves the physical distinction a downstream task depends on. We trained a four-layer SIREN with physics-based residuals, a Sommerfeld condition, Adam, and L-BFGS, modeling a Gaussian source and a plane wave scattering from a small dielectric inclusion. Fine-tuning from four base models produced 600 complex fields spanning omega = 4 to 20. A compact CNN, three ResNet-18 variants, and a frozen OpenCLIP encoder classified these fields under five random seeds. The CNN achieved (95.65 +/- 0.77)% accuracy, outperforming OpenCLIP …

A Case Of Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis Caused By Human Herpesvirus 6b, Lihong Gao, Yang Wen
Journal of Pediatric Infectious Diseases
Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a severe inflammatory response syndrome. Common infectious triggers include Epstein Barr virus, cytomegalovirus, bacteria, and other pathogens. We report a case of HLH caused by human herpesvirus-6 (HHV-6) in a pediatric patient. Based on the HLH-2004 diagnostic criteria, the patient fulfilled 5 of 8 criteria, establishing a definitive diagnosis. HHV-6-associated HLH is rarely reported in the literature. The etiological diagnosis was confirmed through metagenomic next - generation sequencing, highlighting its utility in identifying underlying causes of HLH when the etiology remains unknown.
