This disclosure presents a method for gesture-based virtual tool interaction on arbitrary surfaces within an Extended Reality (XR) environment. Utilizing a head-worn system with egocentric cameras, supplemented by wearable sensors, the system tracks three-dimensional (3D) hand poses and coordinates via a tracking system implementing a neural network or machine learning model. Unlike prior contact-detection methods, this approach employs a dual-network architecture: a static network classifies specific hand grasps (e.g., tripod or wide grips) to instantiate and spatially anchor corresponding virtual tools (e.g., pencils or erasers) with six-degrees-of-freedom (6DoF) precision; simultaneously, a secondary temporal neural network analyzes sequence-based micro-gestures for context-aware …

Generative models for architectural design can have difficulty adhering to complex constraints, such as directional rules from specific cultural frameworks, which may result in layouts with functional or symbolic limitations. A computational framework can address this by integrating rule-based logic with generative models. The system can translate user requirements and geospatial data into an abstract graph where rooms are represented as nodes. A logic engine, which can utilize a component such as a graph neural network, can optimize the placement of these nodes according to predefined adjacency and directional rules. The resulting optimized spatial graph can be used to create …
Communication-Free Distributed Task Scheduling Using Stabilized Time, Joseph Pingenot
Communication-Free Distributed Task Scheduling Using Stabilized Time, Joseph Pingenot
Defensive Publications Series
Scheduling periodic tasks across distributed systems can present challenges, as methods relying on central coordinators or inter-node communication for scheduling decisions may introduce performance bottlenecks and single points of failure. The disclosed technology describes a system where independent nodes can deterministically select a task executor without requiring direct communication for the selection decision. Each node can compute a stabilized timestamp from a synchronized clock, combine it with a task-specific value to create a seed, and use the seed with a deterministic pseudo-random number generator to select an executor from a shared list. This approach can facilitate coordinated, probabilistic task execution …

Recycling streams such as used beverage cans (UBC) often arrive as tightly packed bales from many different suppliers, and once those bales are broken apart the pieces mix together, making it difficult to trace contamination or quality problems back to their source. This creates uncertainty in meeting internal specifications and can lower recycled content in cast products. To make the material traceable after debaling, incoming bales are lightly tagged with supplier-specific chemical markers that are chosen to be visible to spectroscopic detection but unobtrusive to normal processing. Markers can be carried in a simple spray or roll‑on coating, applied at …

The Distributed Verification Of Geospatial Events Via Passive Audio And Local Swarm Consensus, Dhandapani Shanmugam
Defensive Publications Series
Systems for collecting geospatial event data may be subject to challenges associated with active user input and the latency of centralized verification. A decentralized framework may passively detect and verify such events. For example, a client-side agent operating on a user device (e.g., a smartphone, wearable device, or in-vehicle system) can monitor ambient audio for predefined keywords. Upon detecting a trigger, the system may cross-reference the audio event with data from onboard physical sensors for potential local validation. If validated, the device may initiate a distributed consensus protocol, broadcasting a verification request to proximate peer devices. These peer devices may …
Battery State Estimation, Kang Kang, Yu Wang, Alex Pelosi, Emil Chen, Ishu Pradhan
Battery State Estimation, Kang Kang, Yu Wang, Alex Pelosi, Emil Chen, Ishu Pradhan
Defensive Publications Series
Estimating a battery's state of charge (SoC) can become more difficult as a device, for example a mobile phone or vehicle, ages. This difficulty may be partly due to a potential circular dependency where SoC calculations may depend on the battery's state of health (SoH), and SoH estimation may in turn rely on an accurate SoC. A technique is described to address this challenge by decoupling these two estimations. A system can use a machine learning model to generate an independent SoH estimate based on operational data features, such as differential charge with respect to voltage. This SoH estimate can …

Reinforced Bonding For Voice Coil Motor Assemblies Using Mechanical Interlocks And Selective Metallization, Chloe Nieh, Jimmy Chen, Weihsung Chen
Defensive Publications Series
In compact camera modules for electronic devices (e.g., a smartphone, smart watch, or wearable device), a limited surface area exists for bonding a voice coil motor (VCM) assembly to its underlying module board. To reinforce the bond, one technique can involve integrating metallic pins extending from the VCM that are inserted into apertures on the module board and secured with solder or an adhesive, creating a mechanical interlock. Another technique may use a selective metallization process, such as laser direct structuring, to create additional solderable pads on the VCM's non-conductive housing. By creating a three-dimensional interlocking structure or expanding the …

Packaging for items, such as consumer electronics, is often designed for a single use, which can contribute to material waste after a product is unboxed. A reconfigurable packaging system can be transformed into one or more functional objects. The system may integrate engineered structural features, for example, pre-defined fold lines, perforated sections, and interlocking die-cut components, into the packaging substrate. Following these integrated guides, a user can physically manipulate and reassemble portions of the container into secondary items. Examples of such items can include a device support stand, a desktop organizer, or a three-dimensional figure. This approach can extend the …
Addendum No. 1: Intelligent Adaptive Control Unit (Iacu) And Electronic Architecture For Allfromair® Atmospheric Water Harvesting Through Electrodynamic Physisorption And Vibration-Induced Desorption, Vesa Olavi Lius
Defensive Publications Series
This document is Addendum No. 1 to the foundational technical disclosure of the ALLFROMAIR® Atmospheric Water Harvesting system. I hereby detail the Intelligent Adaptive Control Unit (IACU), an electronic architecture designed to actively regulate the system’s high-voltage direct current. By integrating a psychrometric sensor-driven feedback loop, the IACU dynamically scales the electric field to balance thermodynamic maximization (via the Modified Kelvin-Thomson equation) with dielectric stability (Paschen’s Law). This active regulation prevents electrical breakdown in high humidity while maximizing dielectrophoretic condensation in sub-saturated environments, establishing prior art for intelligent field regulation in electro-thermodynamic water capture.

Evaluating Regularized Logistic Regression And K-Nn On Mnist Under Increasing Random Missingness, Daniel Markwei
Data Science and Data Mining
This paper investigates the effect of random missingness on the performance of regularized multinomial logistic regression and the k-nearest neighbors (k-NN) classifier for handwritten digit recognition on the MNIST dataset. In particular, we study L1-regularized (LASSO) logistic regression and L2-regularized (Ridge) logistic regression alongside k-NN. Varying percentages of random missingness were introduced into the original dataset, and each model was evaluated in terms of its classification performance. The results show that random missingness degrades the performance of all three classifiers. Overall, k-NN consistently achieves higher accuracy than both L1- and L2-regularized logistic regression across all missingness levels; however, its performance …

Automated Mapping And Patching For Register Arrays, Shankar Raj V, Rajagopalan Kothandaraman, Ronak Subhas Patel
Defensive Publications Series
This disclosure describes an automated method for hardware patch generation to update register array values without resynthesis. By comparing new and original RTL designs, the method identifies required changes and maps them to the physical netlist. Flip-flop reset values are modified by inserting inverters at data inputs and outputs instead of changing cell types. This flow utilizes metadata to maintain logical mapping throughout design stages. The performance of antennas in wireless communication devices, such as smartphones or wearable devices, can possibly be degraded due to the device's physical orientation. Some tuning methods may not address these orientation-based performance variations. A system is described that can dynamically adapt antenna tuning configurations using a software-driven, sweep-based algorithm. The algorithm may systematically evaluate a set of available tunecodes by measuring key performance indicators, such as received signal power for each, to select a configuration favorable for the current device orientation. This process can incorporate a multi-tiered sweep with coarse, optimized, and fine phases to balance a comprehensive search …
